Joshua Farris is in the lead with 14 points difference with an elegant program, followed by Japan's Keiji Tanaka and Russia's Adian Pitkeev.

Jumps are good. He is very elegant. But the program has no energy. A deserved lead, but I didn't like it so much.

Lake Placid is a competition of dark horses; skaters I've never seen, skaters with no international experience, and skaters who have been injured and whose current condition is not wholly known. Therefore any predictions I make should be taken with a huge helping of salt. From looking at the videos I could find of these girls, Evgenia Gerasimova RUS should win--if she skates as she did at the third leg of the 2011 Cup of Russia. However, if she skates as she did at Russian Nationals, she will lose out to Satoko Miyahara who is coming off a win this month at the Asian FS Trophy 2012 Taipei. And then there are the three American girls. If Angela Wang puts it all together, she could win the bronze. Angela has not always been consistent though. And the same can be said of Courtney Hicks, who has been troubled with injuries, but who looked quite good at Glacier Falls. Kiri Baga has also had injuries, and worse, is skating pairs at the same time as competing in singles. So if I had to guess which American girl wins the bronze, I'm guessing Angela, but with my fingers firmly crossed.

I strongly expect Davankova & Deputat to win this. Not only are they the reigning WJC bronze medallists, they are a relatively young team, and so improvement is definitely to be expected from them. I expect Purdy & Marinaro (CAN) and Denney & Frazier (USA) to compete for the bronze and silver medals, with the edge going to Denney & Frazier, mainly because their WJC score was considerably better than Purdy & Marinaro, but also because it is a competition in the US.

I would expect to see Aldridge and Eaton USA win this event, especially since Kosigina & Moroshkin RUS had a rather lackluster season last year. However, the new rules for grading the pattern dance in the SD were a problem for Papadakis & Cizeron last week, and I would not be at all surprised to see some other team than Aldridge & Eaton leading after the SD. Alexandra & Daniel won their section in the SD at Lake Placid IDC, so I do not expect to see them outside the top three in the SD, however. I think I would still expect Kosigina & Moroshkin to finish second, rather than Morozova & Zhirnov RUS, partially due to Evgenia & Nikolai's greater level of experience, and partially due to the fact that they spent time with Igor Shpilband this summer, polishing their technical levels.

It's either possible Bruser & Lum of CAN or Pogrebinsky & Gudis USA might sneak in for the bronze, if Morozova & Zhirnov falter. Both teams did well in their summer competitions. My expectations of Pogrebinsky & Gudis are based on the fact that they actually edged out Aldridge & Eaton in the FD at Lake Placid IDC, due to Aldridge and Eaton making a major error in their program.

The most unpredicatable team here would be Poulin & Servant CAN. They performed beautifully to win the Canadian Nationals in the junior division last year, and then made mistake after mistake, finishing last at Junior Worlds. They withdrew from their Summer Competition in Quebec. Consequently, it's hard to know what to expect from them--whether diamonds or dust. They could medal or finish last.
