Disclaimer: The GOE values listed next to the elements are the ones, I'd award if I was a judge, to give you a general impression of how well it was executed. I try to describe each of the elements but there's not always time to be as detailed as I would like and those numbers can sometimes say a thousand words. So if you see positive GOE, it means an element was executed to a high standard (and yes, I am generally being very nitpicky ).

Any questions, comments, criticisms and discussion are very welcome.
Once Upon a Time in the West (soundtrack) by Ennio Morricone

3toe/2toe(cheated over a quarter) [-1]
3flip [-3] – cheated over 1/2, weak landing
3salchow(cheated over 1/2)/2toe [-2] – not a lot of flow out
2axel [0] – good height but could use more flow out
scratch butterflies to flying camel(poor free leg extension) to catch to donut [0]
3toe [-2] – cheated over 1/2
straight line step sequence [1] – good character, decent flow
3lip [-3] – landed forwards on two feet
2axel [-2] – cheated over 1/2
sit to cannonball/change sit broken leg [0]
camel/jump to sit/change up var to catch [1] – quite good rotation speed

A fair amount of power in her skating, decent edges. She's shown quite a lot of character on the step sequence but other than that, has skated mainly from one jump into another.

She is just ridiculously overweight for a competitive athlete. This has been an issue for her ever since I remember but it's now got even worse. It isn't surprising at all that she can't manage to rotate her jumps. And more importantly, she's going to end up destroying her joints.

Fairytale by Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell

2axel/3toe [0]
steps to 3flip [-3] – step out with hands down
flying sit cannonball to broken leg to pancake [0] – could use a little more speed
3lutz [-1] – turnout
3loop/2toe [0]
3salchow [1] – decent height and a soft landing
camel/sit var/up Y/change camel upward catch/sit/up [0] – rotation speed not bad
3toe/2toe/2loop [1] – all jumps secure, good flow throughout
straight line step sequence [-3] – fell at the start doing fast twizzles, laboured aftewards
2axel [1] – solid, short entry
sideways to layback to catch [1] – good rotation speed
finished a little behind the music

Very slow. It's actually quite impressive how she was able to rotate (and mostly land) those triple jumps with so much speed going in and short entries in most cases. Hopefully more power in her skating will come in time. She's only thirteen and very tiny.

Choreography featured quite a lot of arm movements throughout but she could have extended them better and shown more attack.

3. Alison Krystle PERTICHETO /PHI/
Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

3flutz(hand down)/2toe [-2]
3toe/2toe [1] – good height, decent flow out
camel/up Y/change sit cannonball to pancake [0]
2axel [0] – not the most secure landing
3salchow [0] - likewise
3toe/2toe/2toe [0]
some spirals into 2axel [1] – solid
sidways to layback to catch to biellmann [1] – good positions and rotation speed
straight line step sequence [1] – quite good flow
2flutz [-1]
flying camel coe(weak free leg extension) to donut to upward catch(again poor extension) [-1] – could use a little more speed

Quite good flow throughout and her movement was quite elegant but the choroegraphy was rather generic and she mainly skated through the music.

4. ZHAO Ziquan /CHN/
Black Swan (soundtrack) by Clint Mansell

3lutz(cheated over half a revolution)/3toe(cheated over a quarter) [-3]
3loop/2toe [0] – secure landings but not a lot of speed out
2axel/3toe(cheated over a quarter) [-1]
camel/up Y/change sit cannonball/up var [0]
2axel [1] – solid
3lip [-3] – cheated over 1/2, step out
3loop [0] – poor flow out
scratch butterflies to flying camel to upward catch to donut [0]
3salchow [-1] – cheated over a quarter
straight line step sequence [0] – busy upper body movement but edges not very strong
layback to sideways to layback catch to biellmann(full split) [1] – good positions

Stiff back, weak and unextended upper body movements. She was just going through the motions throughout, lacking projection and conviction in her movement. Basic skating isn't very strong either.

She looks emaciated, I wonder whether the lack of strength might be the reason for all those underrotations.

5. Angelina KUCHVALSKA /LAT/
Tango de los Exilados by Walter Taieb performed by Vanessa Mae

3salchow/2toe(weak landing, turnout)/1toe(eeked out) [-2]
3toe(cheater over a quarter, poor flow out)/2toe(toe-axeled slightly) [-2]
straight line step sequence [-1] – shallow edges, lacked flow
3salchow [-2] – weak landing, turnout, foot down quickly
3toe [0]
flying sit holding foot(spun on wrong edge for a moment) to forward bend [0]
2flutz/2loop(cheated, step out) [-3]
2axel [-2] – overrotated
2axel [0]
camel to upward twist/change up butt out/sit broken leg/up [-1] – quite slow
sideways to layback catch to biellmann [0] – not a lot of speed

Shallow and scratchy edges, poor speed and ice coverage. Very weak basic skating. Her movement wasn't sharp and staccato enough for a tango. Everything looked strained and laboured.

6. Sabrina SCHULZ /AUT/
Feeling Good performed by Escala

3lutz [-3] – bad fall, crashed into the boards and took her a while to get up
3toe/2toe/1loop [0] – a shame about the loop because first two jumps were quite well executed
3salchow [-3] – cheated over a quarter, overrotated
flying sit side twist to pancake [0]
2salchow/2toe [-1] – long, tentative entry
2axel/2toe [0]
camel to illusion/change up butt out/sit holding foot/up [0]
straight line step sequence [-3] – tripped and then fell towards the end
2toe [0]
2axel [0] – not a lot of speed out
flying camel coe/jump to sit/change up var to biellmann [0]

Really long entries into the jumps, skating around the rink. Basic choreography. She skated pretty much totally through the music.

7. Yasmin SIRAJ /USA/
Seven Years in Tibet (soundtrack) by John Williams

3lip [-1] – solid landing with good flow out but the jump was off an outside edge and she cheated over a quarter
3lutz/2toe [1] – secure landings, good flow between the two jumps
1salchow [-3] – popped on two feet
camel to catch coe/change camel to upward twist to donut [1] – good rotation speed
3toe into 2axel [1] – good height and solid landings on both jumps, good speed out
3lutz [1] – high and secure
camel/sit var/up/change sit/up Y [1] – decent flow throughout
straight line step sequence [1] – quite good flow
3toe [-2] – overrotated
2axel/2toe/2loop [1]
flying camel/sit pancake/jump to change up var [1] – good rotation speed

She was much more 'in the zone' tonight. Very impressive technical elements. High and solid jumps with good running edges coming out.

I have to take back what I said about her basic skating after the SP. She's shown quite deep and clean edges here and had decent speed and glide throughout.

Quite a lot of arm movements throughout but a stiff back. Choreography was very generic and she just stroked from one element into another.

8. Anna KNYCHENKOVA /UKR/
Overture from Don Juan by Felix Gray

turns to 3flip [0] – not a lot of speed out
3loop [0] – long set-up
turns to 3salchow/2toe [0] – not a lot of flow out
scratch butterflies to flying camel to upward catch [0]
3toe [-3] – fall, a shame because she could have landed it if her timing was a little sharper
2axel [1] – high and solid
sideways to layback to catch to biellmann [0] – not a lot of speed
2axel/2toe [0]
3toe/2toe [0]
straight line step sequence – slow [-1]
camel/sit/up Y/change sit holding foot to broken leg [1] – quite good rotation speed
finished a little behind the music

A solid jumper but she skated through the music and showed no expression whatsoever. Quite slow and heavy skating. Stiff, sluggish, lumbering movements. It all looked as if she was about to fall asleep any moment now.

9. GUO Xiaowen /CHN/
Grenada

3flutz(cheated over a quarter, landing a little skiddy)/2toe [-2]
3flip [-3] – cheated over a quarter, fall
3loop [-3] – underrotated over 1/2, running edge a little scratchy
layback to sideways to catch to biellmann [1] – decent rotation speed
3salchow/2toe [-2] – both jumps cheated over a quarter
2axel [-1] – underrotated over a quarter
straight line step sequence [0] – decent upper body movement but could use more speed and flow
3toe [-1] – weak landing, turnout
3salchow – underrotated over half a revolution, fall [-3]
flying camel coe upward twist to donut to upward catch [1] – good rotation speed
camel/up Y/change up var/sit pancake [0]

Good posture and lines but she skated through the music. I don't understand this choice of music at all. Her movements are quite soft and her flow isn't bad, something more classical could have worked well for her. But she had neither the timing, nor the attack and confidence to interpret a Flamenco piece with a strong driving beat. The choreography didn't have any Flamenco character either. What was her team thinking?

10. Ivett TOTH /HUN/
Barcelona by John Tesh

2axel [0]
3flip – fall [-3]
3salchow/2toe [0] – not a lot of flow out, done on the same spot as the flip
3toe/2toe(turnout, poor flow out) [-1]
camel to upward twist/change sit var/up var [0]
3salchow [-1] – cheated over a quarter
sideways to layback(lost balance and had to abort the spin early) [-1]
2axel/1toe [0]
straight line step sequence [0]
scratch butterflies to flying camel to coe to donut to upward catch [1] – good rotation speed
split jump to steps to 2toe [1]

She showed a lot of spunk and fire but really doesn't know how to move her arms. Her movement looked very messy throughout. Ice coverage was really lacking. But that probably has to do with her being very young and tiny and not having a lot of power in her skating yet.

11. PARK So Youn /KOR/
West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein

3lutz [1] – high and solid
2axel/3toe [0]
camel to upward twist to upward catch to coe [0] – could use a little more speed
3loop [0]
sideways to layback to catch to biellmann [1] – quite good rotation speed
3flip [-3] – cheated over a quarter, step out
camel/up Y/change sit cannonball to pancake [1] – quite good positions and rotation speed
1salchow [-3] – popped and landed on two feet
2axel/1toe [0] – landed the axel perfectly, soft and smooth landing, just lost the focus on the toe
3salchow/2toe [0]
circular step sequence [1] – good speed

Elegant movement, good speed and flow and plenty of expression throughout. Good height on the jumps as well. A shame about the silly mistakes towards the end. She just wasn't able to maintain her focus.

I thought that she was undermarked on the PCS again.

12. Brooklee HAN /AUS/
Ave Maria by Caccini

3loop [-1] – cheated over a quarter
3toe/2toe [0]
2axel [0]
3toe [1] – decent height and flow out
sideways to layback to catch to biellmann [1] – quite good rotation speed
3salchow [-2] – cheated over a quarter, weak landing, turnout
2axel/1toe [-1] – poor flow out of the axel and didn't have enough momentum for a double toe
flying camel/sit pancake/up Y [1]
circular step sequence [1] – strong upper body movement, quite sharp footowrk
3salchow(cheated over a quarter)/2toe/2toe(cheated over a quarter) [-3] – poor flow out of all jumps
camel to donut/change sit var/up butt out/sit pancake [1] – good positions, decent rotation speed

Lovely arm movements throughout. Her back was quite stiff, however. Basic skating is not bad but not the strongest, either. Some more speed and flow would help to elevate her higher up the rankings.

13. KIM Hae Jin /KOR/
Sleeping Beauty by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

3lip/2toe [-1] – landings quite heavy
3flutz – underrotated over 1/2, fall [-3]
3salchow – underrotated over 1/2, fall [-3]
flying camel to upward catch to donut [1] – good rotation speed
sideways to layback to biellmann [1] – quite good flow and rotation speed
long entry into the lutz – didn't take off at all in the end
3flip(cheated over a quarter/2toe [-1]
2axel [0] – solid but a long and tentative entry
straight line step sequence [0]
3loop [-1] – cheated over a quarter, not a lot of flow out
camel to upward twist/up catch/change sit var to pancake [0]

Quite elegant and soft arm movements but she seemed quite tense and did not present her program as well as in the short. Her movement was a little messy at times. Her jumps had really long, stalked, tentative entries which disrupted the flow of the program.

She was a very promising Junior, landing triple-triple combinations a couple of years ago. But she seems to have massively grown since last season and that has surely affected her jumps. Along with a string of injuries she has been plagued by. Hopefully she can adjust to her new body and return to form next season.

A Chorus Line
Victor - Victoria (soundtrack)

3toe [-1] – landing quite weak
3lutz [-1] – hand down
3loop [-1] – weak landing
straight line step sequence [-1] – really tense and tight movement (she received no value for this element, probably because of not utilising the whole surface – that's the first time I have seen this rule applied, this is a very strict technical panel)
flying camel to donut to upward catch [1] – good positions, decent rotation speed
2lip [-1]
3lutz/2toe [0] – good height but not a lot of flow out
2axel(slightly over the toe)/2toe [0] – not a lot of speed out
hop to camel to upward twist/up/change sit broken leg to side twist [0]
hops to 2axel [0] – not a lot of flow out
sideways to layback catch [2] – good position, very good rotation speed

She was really tense and her movements were quite tight and cautious. She has quite good charisma but didn't sell the program as well as in the SP.

3flutz(shaky landing)/2toe [-2] – a lot of elevation again
3flip [-1] – turnout
2axel [1] – high and solid
sideways to layback catch to biellmann [1] – good positions and quite good rotation speed, although slowed down on the biellmann
3flutz [-2] – landing a little shaky
3salchow/2toe/2toe [1] – secure landings, good flow throughout
Good speed and energy throughout but a big question mark over the choice of music. I think it was too sophisticated for her and there was a lot of detail in the music that she just wasn't responding to. She does skate with a lot of power though.

She gets extremely impressive height on her jumps but had trouble controlling the landings.
I don't understand why her team is giving her classical music, when she isn't balletic at all.
This program worked much better for her than the short. The music had a strong rhythm and a lot of accents and she reflected a lot of them with her movements. A very impressive display of jumping ability as well.
Posture and lines need work, however. Her arm movements weren't extended properly.
Lipping aside, the elements were very strong. She had good flow and showed effort and attack throughout. But it was another program where the relation of the movement to the music was very questionable. "Nutcracker" calls for languid longato movements and her movement was quite sharp and staccato. And again there were random kicks and splits that seemed to serve no purpose. I can understand a kick to an accent in the music, or a spiral to a crescendo. But randomly lifting her legs up and down is just pointless.
Tiny jumps but the best program construction and presentation of the evening, by far. Good kneebend and edgework gave her good flow over the ice. She used her whole body throughout the program to interpret the music and her soft movements were very appropriate and reflected the character of the chosen pieces well. A great job by Lindgren and Dickson. Both this and her short were beautifully choreographed.

She should have won on the PCS.
The program wasn't bad and the choreography reflected the character of the music quite well but she needs to push the expression more and show more conviction on her movements. She needs polishing. Posture and lines were a little messy and her movement a little awkward (like she's adjusting to her new body – which very well might be the case).

The program was a little open and could have used some more transitions but she had good flow throughout and her movement was neat and well composed from start to finish. Very elegant, beautiful arm movements, lovely lines. Each jump landing was accentuated with strong extension of the arms and the free leg. A really stunning performance.

She has only herself to blame for the underrotations on her jumps and she doesn't have a triple-triple combination in her arsenal so her TES was rightfully much lower than that of the Russian girls. But she should have easily beaten them on the PCS, by a large margin as well. It's frustrating to see the judges not being able to mark the two seperately. I think split judging panels should definitely be introduced by the ISU.

It's surprising to see her struggle with underrotations because her jumps are really high and solid. She must be either a little slow with the timing on the take-off, starting rotation too late, or opening the jumps too early. Usually the skaters who struggle with cheats are the ones who can't get enough elevation but that's definitely not Cesario's problem.

Good basics but the choreography was a little lackluster and didn't manage to bring his charisma out as well as in the Short Program. Which was a shame because he is capable of presenting his programs really well and he had all the ingredients. Timing was quite good and there were some nice arm movements in the second half but overall the choroegraphy was slightly lacking.
His speed and flow over the ice weren't bad but he needed a lot of scraped cross-overs in order to maintain it. There were quite a lot of arm movements throughout but they were unfinished, not extended well and it all looked very rushed. There wasn't much purpose to it either. The choreography was quite generic and it didn't really bring the Charlie Chaplin theme out well at all.
His basics aren't yet at the level of the top skaters. Posture and lines were a little weak and he didn't get a lot of speed and flow. The choreography featured some impressive highlight moves that he executed well (charlotte, spread eagle, cantilever, amongst others) but I don't think it was a good music choice for him. His upper body movement wasn't sharp and staccato enough.
Strong edges and very good speed throughout. His posture and lines are quite good and he did move his arms a fair amount throughout. Good flow throughout, stunning posture and lines, great attention to detail in the choreography. He used his whole body to interpret the music and his movement was appopriately soft and languid to fit its character. The program featured a fair amount of transitions as well and technical elements were executed to a very high standard.

A general rant: Choreographic lifts do not have levels called and their purpose it to look nice, be performed to a high quality and fit the program. Why did so many teams choose to execute really strained and ugly choreographic lifts then, instead of choosing something simple, elegant and effective? The mind boggles.

diagonal step sequence [0] – could use some more speed
rotational choreographic lift with change of position [-1] – positions poorly extended, not a lot of speed

Their elements aren't of particularly high quality yet and they could have used some more speed but they skated well for their ability and managed to capture the character of the music quite well.
sit straight line lift [1]
catchfoot rotational lift [0]
spin rotational choreographic lift [1]

A very strong performance, this was much better skated than their Short Dance. Great expression throughout, they really felt the music and showed a lot of drama. Strong, long edges and good execution of the technical elements.

They don't have the speed and power of the top teams but they really gave it their 110%.
pair change combination spin – good positions and rotation speed [1]
rotational lift with changes of position – messy and ragged and eventually fell [-3]
laboured choreographic lift [-1]

Light skating and good flow throughout. A well choreographed program with a lot of connecting footwork, skated mostly in closed holds. They showed a lot of charisma and reflected the character of the music very well with their movement. If you took the two falls out, everything else was top quality.
rotational lift with change of position [-1] – messy, her positions were unextended and it looked laboured
diagonal step sequence [0]
ugly choreographic lift [-1]

It started well with a lot of speed and they've shown good attack but it became quite messy and ragged in the second half. Quite simple and generic choreography.

I don't understand at all why their PCS were so high (and I felt the same way after seeing their Short Dance marks).
waltz jump to twizzles: arms behind clockwise(his weak) into arm above and catch [-1]
messy rotational choreographic lift to finish [-1]

Lots of speed and attack to start with but they became quite visibly tired at the end and the execution suffered as a result.
circular step sequence [1]
pair change combination spin [1] – good rotation speed
spread eagle curve lift with her on his back in catchfoot [1]
ugly choreographic rotational lift [-1]

Great character and attack throughout. A very entertaining program. All of the elements were sharp and executed to a high standard.
midline step sequence [0] – could use more speed
catchfoot rotational lift [1] – good extension, decent rotation speed
choreographic lift [0]

A decent performance but their elements aren't particularly strong and they lack projection. They've chosen very dramatic music and their skating failed to live up to it. Expression was lacking.

16. Gabriella PAPADAKIS / Guillaume CIZERON /FRA/
Hey You by Pink Floyd

diagonal step sequence – fast, sharp footwork, good flow [2]
twizzles: arm above and catch(she stepped out) into clockwise into arm above(she struggled) [-2]
difficult entry into spread eagle straight line lift with changes of position [1] – very strong at the start but a slight stutter at the end
to pair change combination spin [2] – good positions and rotation speed
difficult entry into one-foot curve lift with changes of position [1]
something went wrong, she looked to be in pain and they had to stop and take time out before continuing – her ankle was heavily taped up so most likely that injury flared up again
circular step sequence [1] – deep edges, good flow
catchfoot rotational lift [2] – good extension and rotation speed
choreographic lift fitting the character of the music very well [2]

A fantastic performance, even with the mistakes and the interruption. The choreography was creative and very detailed and featured a lot of upper body movement and transitions. And they presented it beautifullly, showing a lot of speed, character and attack. Botched twizzles aside, the elements were very strong as well.

They have the potential to become future world champions. The technical ability is there but more importantly, they also have a lot of charisma, character and they stand out from the crowd with unique and creative programs. What worries me is their lack of consistency. The mistakes here can be explained by her injury but it's not the first time they've made some major errors when it mattered.

17. Alexandra ALDRIDGE / Daniel EATON /USA/

spread eagle straight line lift with changes of position – strong and secure [1]
circular step sequence [0]
pair combination spin [0] – decent positions but could use a little more speed
spread eagle curve lift with her standing up [1]
twizzles: arm above and catch(he struggled a little) into arms above clockwise into arms on hips [1] – very fast and well-synchronised
diagonal step sequence [0]
catchfoot rotational lift [0] – could use some more speed
choreographic lift [0]

A decent performance but they didn't seem to have as much speed and attack as in the short dance. The choreography was quite generic and the program fell a little flat, which is a shame because they've shown that they are capable of great expression in the SD. There were no noticable errors and elements were ok but not outstanding.

It was a decent effort but I just expected more from them and the comparison with Papadakis/Cizeron's exceptional program was very unfavourable.

18. Mackenzie BENT / Garrett MACKEEN /CAN/
diagonal step sequence [0]
straight line spread eagle lift with changes of position [1]
pair change combination spin with rotation in both directions [1] – quite good rotation speed
hydroblade curve lift [0]
circular step sequence [0] – he dropped the free leg at one point but it was ok otherwise
one arm rotational lift going up and down [1]
choreographic lift [0]

A quite generic, old fashioned program. A little open at times and it didn't have a lot of character. They did an ok job but didn't show anything outstanding.
diagonal step sequence [0] – not a lot of speed, they seemed to be running out of steam
one arm rotational lift [1]
fun choreographic lift [1]

Quite a lot of creative transitions throughout. Elements were strong and the choroegraphy was quite busy but they could have brought out the Cat theme a little more and shown a bit more attack and expression.

The technical elements were very impressive and – the botched lift exit aside – executed to a very high standard.

The program left me really cold however. They have good basics and their movement was strong and confident but the choreography seemed random and messy.

Trivia: Simon Reed has pointed out that they haven chosen the music that Torvill & Dean used to Bukin's dad with at Worlds and Olympics (but he has later become a World Champion).

Detailed Classification
Judges Scores

Disclaimer: The GOE values listed next to the elements are the ones, I'd award if I was a judge, to give you a general impression of how well it was executed. I try to describe each of the elements but there's not always time to be as detailed as I would like and those numbers can sometimes say a thousand words. So if you see positive GOE, it means an element was executed to a high standard (and yes, I am generally being very nitpicky ).

Any questions, comments, criticisms and discussion are very welcome.

A general rant: An annoying judging trend that I've noticed is that biellmanns seem to result in very high GOE regardless of how they are actually executed. Which encourages ugly, slow and unextended biellmanns. Thanks, judges!
camel/sit var/change up butt out/sit broken leg/up – quite good positions, good rotation speed [1]

Quite smooth edges and decent basic skating in general but her posture and lines could be stronger. The program lacked Latin character. You could have played any music over that performance, really.
straight line step sequence [0]
2axel – solid [1]
camel to illusion/change sit cannonball to pancake/up – good rotation speed [1]

A good job on the elements but whilst everything was clean, her elements weren't of an a very high quality (hence I would go with mostly base GOE values).

The choreography was quite generic and her movements lacked conviction. She didn't project strong enough to the judges and the audience.

'This concludes your warm-up, would you please clear the ice NOW' said the announcer after the following warm-up group came to a close. :D
Daphnis and Chloe by Maurice Ravel

3toe/3toe – not a lot of height, slightly tilted in the air, not a lot of flow out of the second jump which was cheated over a quarter [-2] (a nice spiral coming out of it though)
3lip – underrotated over a quarter, fall [-3]
ina bauer towards layback to sideways to catch to biellmann [1] – quite good rotation speed
circular step sequence – could use more flow [0]
flying camel upward twist to catch coe to donut [1]
steps to 2axel – solid [1]
scratch butterflies to camel to illusion/change sit cannonball to pancake/up – good flow and rotation speed [1]

The program was packed with transitions throughout. Her upper body was very stiff however and there was a jarring contrast between her quite soft arm movements, which reflect the Swan theme quite well, and her head and back which hardly moved at all (whilst the music was Daphnis and Chloe, the concept of this program is her being a swan). Her basic skating isn't very strong either.
First Dance by Edvin Marton

3lutz/3toe(weak landing, cheated just over a quarter, turnout, foot down quick) [-2]
3lip – high with secure landing but a slight outside edge on the take-off [0]
transition to camel/sit/up Y/change sit broken leg to forward tuck – quite good rotation speed [1]
2axel [-3] – fall, was a little tentative going in and you could predict this was going to happen
scratch butterfly to flying camel to donut to upward catch(extension a little weak) [0]
circular step sequence [0] – could use more flow, the upper body movement was very over the top and didn't seem to fit the music well
to sideways to layback to catch – could use more extension but very good rotation speed [1]

The program lacked character. Generic GFB choreography with her arms moving up and down, independently of the rest of her body, without much of a purpose and not really fitting the gentle, longato character of the music very well.

Carol Ann by Michael W. Smith

3loop – underrotated just over a quarter, fall [-3]
2flip with arms above – straight off footwork with no preparation [2]
flying camel coe to upward catch to donut – quite slow, extensions a little weak [-1]
Y spiral towards 2axel [0]
camel/up Y/change sit broken leg to forward bend/up [0]
straight line step sequence [0]
sideways to layback catch to biellmann – quite good flow and rotation speed [1]

This was well skated for her ability. Her basics aren't very strong - posture is a little weak and she didn't have a lot of speed - but she presented the program quite well throughout, making effort on all of her movements.

Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman

3lutz/2toe [0] – not a lot of speed or flow out but decent height and secure landings
3lip – solid, short break after steps though and outside edge on take-off [-1]
flying camel to coe to donut to upward catch(good extension) [1]
2axel [-1] – slightly shaky landing, a little over the toe, set-up was quite long
camel to upward twist/up/change sit broken leg to side twist [0]
straight line step sequence – good expression [1]
sideways to layback catch to biellmann(a little slow) [1] - very good rotation speed until the biellmann

She was a little cautious at the start but once she has landed both of the triples, she really relaxed and showed some very good expression and attack. Good posture and lines, she extended her arm movements beautifully. She needs to learn to point her toes, though.

The program didn't have a lot of transitions.
scratch butterflies to flying camel coe to donut to upward catch [0]
circular step sequence [0]
sideways to layback catch to biellmann [1] – decent positions and rotation speed
ina bauer towards camel/cannonball/change sit broken leg/up butt out [1] – quite good positions and flow

Decent choreography featuring various MITF throughout. She maintained quite good speed and her movements were sharp and confident.

She was in tears in the Kiss & Cry with Berezintsev maintaining his usual high spirits and telling her to smile. He always has a good, positive attitude which is very important in situations like this.
Songs from the Victorious City by Anne Dudley

3lutz/3toe [0] – both jumps a tiny bit shaky and not a lot of speed or flow out
3lip [-2] – break after steps, outside edge on take-off, landing could have been a little stronger
2axel [0] – landing a little awkward
scratch butterflies to flying camel(needed a hop to maintained balance and travelled slightly) to donut to upward catch(good extension) [-1]
layback to catch(very fast!) to biellmann – good extension [2]
straight line step sequence [0]
camel to illusion/change up butt out/sit holding foot/up – good rotation speed [1]

She looked tense throughout, her movement was a little catious and she didn't project very well. Generic choreography consisting of “Walk Like An Egyptian” arms.

She had Lv3 bitchface after seeing her scores. The coach didn't seem very impressed either.
flying camel to donut coe to upward catch [0]
back catch spiral towards 1axel [-3]
camel to illusion/change sit cannonball to pancake/up – decent positions and rotation speed [1]
layback to sideways(a little off-centred) to catch to biellmann(barely held one revolution) [-1]
straight line step sequence [0] – could use more speed and attack

A fair amount of connecting elements in the program. The choreography could have been quite effective if she sold it well (the music had a strong rhythm and a lot of accents) but her movements lacked attack and confidence.

Crystallized

3loop(cheated over a quarter)/2toe [0] – solid landings (would be +1 if not for the cheat)
3flip [-3] – cheated over a quarter, poor speed out, foot down quick
flying camel to upward catch coe to donut – slow [-1]
layback to sideways to layback catch to biellmann [-1] – slow, extensions not very good
2axel [0]
circular step sequence [1] – quite fast footwork, a lot of freedom in her movement
camel to illusion/up/jump to change sit broken leg(slow)/up [-1]

Slow. Sluggish upper body movement and hardly any connection to the music. Weak spins. Great job landing everything but the quality just wasn't there, I'm afraid.

She was very happy after her performance and looked really shocked when the scores came up.

When I saw her ISU bio for the first time, I thought she was going to skate to The xx's “Crystallised” but she didn't. :(
The Fifth Element (soundtrack) by Eric Serra

3lutz(cheated over a quarter)/3toe(very strong) [0]
2lip [-3] – opened up after a little over two revolutions and fell
back spiral to 2axel [0]
layback to catch to hyper-extended biellmann – fantastic positions, very good rotation speed [2]
camel/up Y/change up butt out/sit forward tuck – good positions and rotation speed [1]
straight line step sequence – sharp footwork, a lot of upper body movement [1]
to scratch butterfly to flying camel upward catch coe to donut – good positions [1]

Strong basics. Beautiful posture and lines, great flexibility. Smooth edges. She reflected the music quite well, both in the slower and the upbeat part.

There's star quality here and I pray she will be given good programs in the seasons to come because bad music choices and generic choreography managed to very successfully drained life from Lipnitskaia, who was also a great performer before she entered the international scene.

Jesus Christ, Inna Goncharenko's haircut is as bad as it gets.
Exodus performed by Maksim Mrvica

3lip [-3] – gap after steps, take-off off an outside edge, turnout on the landing
3lutz/2toe [0] – clean but a long set-up and not a lot of speed out
layback to sideways to catch to biellmann [1] – extension quite weak, good rotation speed though
scratch butterfly to flying camel to coe to donut to upward catch [0] – rotation speed and positions not bad but it took her quite a while to change some of the positions
2axel [-1] – tentative, deliberate set-up, landing a little scratchy
circular step sequence [0]
camel/sit cannonball/change sit broken leg/up var to up – quite good flow and rotation speed [1]

Decent speed but her upper body was quite stiff and she didn't interpret the music very well.

38. Julia LIPNITSKAIA /RUS/
Sabre Dance (modern arrangement) by Aram Khatchaturian

3lutz(landing not perfect)/1toe [-3]
full split spiral to steps to 3lip [-1] – slight outside edge on take-off
2axel [0]
scratch butterflies to flying camel to donut to coe to upward catch – good positions and rotation speed [1]
straight line step sequence – busy upper body movement but footwork a little scratchy [0]
layback to sideways to catch to hyper-extended biellmann – very good extension, quite good rotation speed [2]
camel/up cannonball/sit var/change sit var/up Y(full split) – well extended positions, good rotation speed [2]

Decent basic skating but she didn't present the program very well. She needs to look up to the judges and the audience and show more attack and conviction in her movements.

She's extremely, uniquely flexible and there are a lot of kicks, spirals and splits in her program but what is their purpose? They aren't done to highlights in the music, they don't really reflect its character either and they don't really fit within the program as a whole. It's showing off for the sake of it.

It makes me sad because I remember her Kung Fu Panda program from back when she was 12. It was fun, playful and there was a joy and an exuberance to her skating. But in the last two seasons it looked like her team tried to make her look 'mature' by giving her dreary, overused sad music which she doesn't seem to feel at all and her choroegraphy couldn't be any more generic. She has incredible talent but I don't think that she is being packaged well.

She had a look of utter horror upon seeing the scores. She looked possessed by the devil.

Korobushka by Bond

3lutz/3toe(cheated over 1/2) [-2]
layback to sideways to catch to biellmann [1] – decent positions (although could use some more flexibility in her back) and rotation speed
flying camel(poor free leg extension, it was slightly bent in the knee) to coe to donut to upward catch [1] – good rotation speed
3flip [-1] – overrotated but good height and a good entry right off preceding footwork, with no obvious preparation
to footwork to 2axel [1]
straight line step sequence – quite fast footwork, good energy [1]
camel to catch/sit var/change sit var to pancake/up – good rotation speed [1]

Heavy, lumbering, movement. Her arms weren't extended and she didn't point her toes. Is she doing ballet classes? Because she really should.

Having said that, she has shown quite good energy throughout and her perky movement reflected the upbeat, playful character of the music quite well.

It was impressive how well the flip and the axel were integrated into the program with connecting footwork.

40. Brooklee HAN /AUS/
Freedom by Michael Smith
Titanic Symphony by Richard Clayderman

3toe/2toe [0]
2lip [-1] – decent height and secure landing but take-off off an outside edge
flying camel to donut(very good extension) to upward catch coe – quite good positions and rotation speed [1]
owen spiral to 2axel [0] – could use more flow out
sideways to layback to speed increase catch to biellmann [2] – good extension and rotation speed
circular step sequence – quite good flow and busy upper body movement [1]
camel/sit pancake/change sit var/up butt out/sit forward tuck – good positions and rotation speed [1]

A polished, confident performance, where everything looked neat and secure, despite the mistake on the flip. She knows how to use her arms but her back is stiff. Her basics are not as strong as those of the top skaters but she did give it her best this afternoon.

41. MIYAHARA Satoko /JPN/
The Swan by Camille Saint-Saens

3flutz/3toe [-2] – poor height and both jumps were cheated over a quarter, but the landings were soft and solid
3flip [0] – again: lacking height and cheated over a quarter but soft and secure landing
flying camel upward twist to donut to upward catch [0] – could use a little more speed
straight line step sequence – quite good flow [1]
2axel [0]
camel/jump to sit side twist/change sit var/up Y [1] – rotated in both directions! decent positions and rotation speed
layback to sideways to catch to biellmann [1] – decent positions and rotation speed

Soft kneebend, gentle and elegant upper body movement which reflected the languid character of the music very well. She definitely moved like a swan. The whole package was there and everything was executed to a high standard.

42. ZHAO Ziquan /CHN/
Moonlight Sonata performed by Henry Mancini

3toe/3toe(underroatted over 1/2, step out) [-3]
3lip [-3] – outside edge on take-off, cheated over a quarter, heavy step-out
camel/up Y/change sit cannonball/up var [0]
2axel – solid, nice extension on the landing [1]
scratch butterflies to flying camel coe to upward catch to donut [0] – decent positions but could use more speed
straight line step sequence [0] – very busy upper body movement but could use more speed and flow
layback to sideways to catch to biellmann [1] – very good extension, could use a little more speed though

Poor posture and lines, quite stiff back, generic choreography. The were a lot of arm movements throughout but they weren't extended well.

The Spanish arrangement of the Moonlight Sonata that she used for the second half of the program was probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

43. Samantha CESARIO /USA/
Carmen Fantasie by David Garrett

3flip [1] - solid, good flow out, a very short break after steps though
2axel [1] – secure landing with a nice extension of the free leg, set-up quite short
layback to sideways to layback catch to biellmann [1] – quite good positions and flow throughout, lovely arms on the layback at the start
flying camel coe to upward twist to upward catch [0] – extensions a little weak
3loop(cheated over a quarter)/2toe [-1]
straight line step sequence [2] - great expression, skated to the music well, quite good flow
camel to illusion/sit broken leg/change sit cannonball/up Y [0]

Sophisticated, mature presentation. She used her whole body to interpret the music throughout, even the facial expressions were appropriate and added to the effect. The upper body movement was quite busy and it was all in character of the music. The program flowed over the ice well too. She had the whole package and deserved the highest PCS so far.

Samantha, honey, I love you but that new hair colour is way too dark and doesn't suit your complexion.

Pantoum for Piano by Maurice Ravel

3salchow/2toe [1] – light and secure, good flow out of both jumps
3flip [-1] – cheated over a quarter
flying camel upward twist to upward catch coe [0]
2axel – solid [1]
sideways to layback to catch(didn't manage to hold it) – off-centred [-1]
straight line step sequence [0]
camel/up var to Y/change sit cannonball to pancake [0] – could use some more speed

Nice posture and lines. She was elegant and skated to the music quite well.

As she was about to start her program, the music failed and she had to leave the ice while it was being sorted. It took so long that Park and Kim needed another warm-up. After the ice fail of the previous day, this is another example for why major events of any kind should not be held in Italy where nothing ever works.
sideways to layback to catch to biellmann [1]
3flip [-2] – solid but a long break after steps
2axel [0]
straight line step sequence [1] – good use of upper body, decent speed and flow
camel to upward twist/up var/change sit broken leg to forward tuck [0]

A well chorographed program, featuring a lot of upper body movement and a fair amount of transitions as well. Good use of her whole body throughout. Nice use of arms.

Disclaimer: The GOE values listed next to the elements are the ones, I'd award if I was a judge, to give you a general impression of how well it was executed. I try to describe each of the elements but there's not always time to be as detailed as I would like and those numbers can sometimes say a thousand words. So if you see positive GOE, it means an element was executed to a high standard (and yes, I am generally being very nitpicky).

Any questions, comments, criticisms and discussion are very welcome.

An observation that came to my mind when looking through the protocols after the event was over, was that judges seem to pay attention to how lifts look in the air but not so much to the man's footwork. There were some examples where there wasn't really anything wrong with the lifting but the footwork was slow, scratchy and lacked flow. And it's something that should affect the GOE as much as what happens overhead.

1. Hayleigh BELL / Alistair SYLVESTER /CAN/
Fantasie Impromptu by Frederic Chopin

3twist – lacking height, underrotated, crash [-3]
2axel – solid [1]
throw 3loop – painful fall [-3]
it took them a while to recover
spread eagle to axel lasso to one hand hold and dismount – strong [1]
choreographic sequence [0]
2flip/2toe/2toe [0]
pair change combination spin [0]
star lift to one hand – heavy dismount [-1]
throw 3salchow [0] – went deep down in the knee but held it well and had good flow out
flying camel/sit/up/change sit broken leg – off-synch throughout [-2]
back spiral and shoot-the-duck into fids with change of hold – decent position and rotation speed [1]

Postures and lines need work. Not the best choice of music from them, given they aren't a classical, balletic team.

2. Rachel EPSTEIN / Dmitry EPSTEIN /NED/
The Lion King (soundtrack) by Elton John

2twist with arm above – clean but very little height [0]
2loop/2toe(heavy step out from her) [-2]
toe lasso to change of position and carry – laboured [-1]
throw 2salchow [0]
flying camel/up L/change sit cannonball – lost synch at the end [-1]
spread eagle to star lift to one hand to difficult dismount – not too bad but he two-footed the landing [-1]
2flip [0]
choreographic sequence: spread eagle and catchfoot spiral / front spirals(extension lacking) [0]
throw 2flip [0]
spread eagle and Y spiral into bods – she fell [-3]
to pair combination spin – quite slow [-1]

They mostly skated through the music but their basics aren't that bad. It's just that technically they are so far behind the other teams (and that gets reflected on the PCS as well even though it shouldn't).

They are quite close in height now so I'm not sure how much of a future they have in Pairs.

She seemed very dissappointed and distraught in the Kiss & Cry.

3. Marcelina LECH / Jakub TYC /POL/
Amelie (soundtrack) by Yann Tiersen

2twist – very low, underrotated, crash, two-footed [-3]
throw 3salchow – quite good height [0]
2lutz – she singled [-2]
toe lasso to one hand hold and dismount [0]
catchfoot spiral into fids with change of hold [0]
choreographic sequence: mirrored spread eagle and catchfoot spiral, spiral with him going under her, dance lift – all the movements were a little unfinished [-1] (element got no value for not holding a spiral long enough)
throw 3loop – two-footed, hand down [-3]
flying camel/sit/up raised knee/change sit forward bend – off-synch on change of foot but ok otherwise [-1]
2lip/half-loop/2toe(he put his foot down) [-3]
press lift to one hand hold and dismount – a little laboured [-1]
to pair combination spin – quite slow [-1]

They are new to pairs (this is their first season together and she was a single skater before) and it all looks a little tentative at this point. They were quite tense and the program wasn't presented or sold very well but that's probably because they were focused on going through each element at a time. Work in progress.

4. Giulia FORESTI / Leo Luca SFORZA /ITA/
Momentos Te Quiero by Flamenco Flam Boyan

salchow lasso to one hand hold and dismount – strong, nice extensions from her but he two-footed the landing [0]
3twist – big crash, not much of a catch at all [-3]
Y spiral to fids [0] – decent rotation speed but she could be lying closer to the ice
nice mirrored entry into 2axels – she fell [-3]
choreographic sequence: front and back coe spirals / a nice move with her lying on his boot [0]
to pair change combination spin – quite slow [0]
throw 3salchow – fall [-3]
star lift to one hand to upside down carry to difficult dismount – two-footed by him [-1]
throw 3loop – step out [-2]
mirrored 2loop/2toe/1toe – she wrapped the loop and her toes were quite weak [-1]
camel to catch(she really struggled)/upright/change sit broken leg [-2]

Decent speed, their movements were quite well extended. Basics not bad for a team of their standard.

They rotate in different directions. She has a perfect built for pairs at the moment but hasn't reached puberty yet.

5. LI Meiyi / JIANG Bo /CHN/
Boundless (from "Big World")

3salchow – weak landings from both, poor speed out [-1]
3toe/2toe(off-synch) [-1]
dance lift to 3twist – quite high but a crash, two-footed landing from him [-2]
axel lasso to change of position and one hand [0]
flying camel/up L(he struggled)/change sit holding foot(went totally out of synch)/up [-2] - done quite close together
transitions towards throw 3loop – two-footed, poor flow out [-3]
transitions towards throw 3salchow – landed it but then pitched forward and fell [-3]
unextended shoot-the-duck into fids with change of hold – weak edge [-1]
choreographic sequence: front and back catch spirals [0] (got no value, probably because of not making use of the full ice surface)
star lift to spread eagle carry(he couldn't hold it and had to go back to rotation) – dismount quite heavy and two-footed [-2]
to pair change combination spin – very weak at the end, barely managed to keep the rotation going [-1]

They are a perfect example of all the flaws in the Chinese skating program. They are going for triple jumps (and landing some of them) but their basics are weak and undeveloped and everything looks forced and muscled through. Their movements were unifinished and there was hardly any connection to the music.

They really would be much better off spending some time working on their stroking, doing ballet classes and focusing on executing easier elements well instead of going for higher difficulty ones which ends up looking like he's throwing a sack of potatoes around.

6. Kamilla GAINETDINOVA / Ivan BICH /RUS/
Die Fledermaus Ouverture by Johann Strauss

3lutz/2toe – he underrotated the lutz over half a revolution, had a weak landing, turned out and only managed to eek out a single toe-loop after she landed hers [-3]
steps towards 3twist – underrotated over 1/2, big crash [-3]
throw 3loop – not a lot of height and she was leaning in the air slightly but a solid landing [0]
flying camel/sit/up var/change sit/up Y [0] - decent rotation speed and very well synchronised at the start but lost both speed and synch at the end
choreographic sequence: spirals / a nice dance lift / a nice move with her lying on his boot [1]
3toe – her landing a little skiddy [0]
spread eagle axel lasso to one hand hold and dismount - his free foot a little late coming out [0]
throw 3salchow – a little wild in the air, both hands down [-2]
catchfoot spiral into fids with change of hold [0]
kneeling entry into star lift with changes of position to spread eagle dismount – strong [1]
to pair change combination spin [-1] – second position slow, really off-centred on the third position

The program flowed well and had a few nice choreographic touches. She's a much more elegant and balletic skater than him, however.

Whilst they are strong single skaters, the pair elements are still very much a work in progress.

7. Britney SIMPSON / Matthew BLACKMER /USA/
Excerpts from Henry V by Patrick Doyle

3salchow – she underrotated over a quarter and fell, not a very strong landing from him [-3]
2twist – not a lot of height, two-footed landing from him [-1]
throw 3loop [0]
salchow lasso to change of position and one hand hold to difficult dismount – a little laboured, two-footed landing from him [-1]
2axel(she underrotated over a quarter and fell) into 2axel(he singled, she didn't do it) [-3]
throw 3salchow – slight touch down with free foot on the landing, nice extension and good flow out, however [-1]
choreographic sequence: spiral / spread eagles – good speed and extensions [1]
star lift to one hand to difficult dismount – strong [1]
camel/sit/up/change sit to cannonball/up – synch quite poor, good rotation speed though [0]
Y spiral into fids with change of hold [0]
to pair change combination spin – decent positions and rotation speed [1]

Quite good postures and lines, some nice attention to detail throughout the program. They extended their movements well and had a consistent 'regal' theme.

Laureano Ibarra rocking the 'just got out of prison gang henchman' look in the Kiss & Cry complete with a shaved head and tattoes on his hands.

8. Julia LAVRENTIEVA / Yuri RUDYK /UKR/
The Last Samurai (soundtrack) by Hans Zimmer

dance lift to steps to 2twist – high and solid but he two-footed the landing [0]
throw 3loop – shaky landing, hand down, no speed out [-1]
spread eagle into axel lasso – she went up to his shoulder and then they had to abort it [no value]
2flip/2toe – high and solid [1]
flying camel/sit/up/change sit broken leg [0] – well synchronised but could use more speed
2flutz – hand down from him [-2] (he singled it in the warm-up so it's clearly not his favourite jump)
choreographic sequence: some original movements (quite well extended), front catchfoot spirals to finish [1]
dance lift to star lift to one hand – strong but two-footed from him [0]
throw 3salchow [-3] – hand down, foot down and then a step out with hand down, they really telegraphed it as well
catchfoot spiral into bids [0]
to pair change combination spin [0]

Their basics aren't bad, a fair amount of power in their skating but they skated totally through the music.

Their coach looks quite terrifying and he highlighted what didn't work in their program, in the Kiss & Cry, which isn't exactly a very constructive or supportive attitude.

9. Jessica CALALANG / Zack SIDHU /USA/
The Artist (soundtrack) by Ludovic Bource

2axel – she cheated slightly [-1]
3twist – crash, she landed on his shoulder [-2]
catchfoot spiral towards axel lasso to one hand [0]
spread eagles towards 3salchow – two-footed [-3]
flying camel/sit/up raised knee/change sit to forward bend – synch a little bit off in places [0]
steps towards 2lutz(he singled)/2toe(he singled)/2toe(he didn't do it, she stepped out with hands down) [-3]
star lift to one hand to change of position to difficult dismount – strong, nice extensions from her [1]
choreographic sequence: spirals / a nice spin move / steps [1]
catchfoot spiral into fids with change of hold – good position, very close to the ice [1]
spread eagle and spiral towards throw 3lutz – good height but landing a little scratchy [0]
pair change combination spin [0]

Skating to jazzy, vintage music again. It fits them well but the choreography wasn't as strong as in the SP and they didn't interpret the music as well either.

10. Lina FEDOROVA / Maxim MIROSHKIN /RUS/
Tango Selection

cantilevers towards 3twist – huge, easy catch [2]
throw 3loop – weak landing, not very secure and her hand reached down towards the ice [-1]
2axel – clean but far apart [0]
Y spiral to fids with change of hold – good position [1]
steps to 2flip/2toe [1]
camel/sit/up biellmann/change camel upward catch – good positions, well synchronised at the start but lost it after change of foot [-1]
choreographic sequence: spread eagle and spiral / front catch and owen spirals – well extended movements [1]
throw 3salchow – excellent height, landing could have been a little more controlled, however [1]
spread eagle to axel lasso to change of position to one hand – strong, good extensions from her [2]
sideways hip lift to one hand [1]
to pair change combination spin – very good positions, decent rotation speed to start with but they lost it after the first position and were quite slow from then on [0]

A much more polished and secure performance in comparison with their Short Program. The program featured some playful movements throughout and while they were quite entertaining, they didn't really fit their tango music. A quite 'juniorish' program (I was quite surprised that the judges loved it as much).

After the short program, he admitted that her fall on the throw 3salchow was his fault.

11. Anabelle PRΦLSS / Ruben BLOMMAERT /GER/
Robin Hood (soundtrack) by Marc Streitenfeld

2axel – solid [1]
dance lift to 3twist – not a great deal of height but quite effortless [1]
throw 3salchow – lacked height but clean and solid [0]
2flip/2toe [0]
flying camel/sit/up L/change sit broken leg/up – off-synch until the last position [-1]
choreographic sequence: front spirals / ina bauer and spiral / ina bauers / spread eagle and fan kick / dance lift – good speed, well extended movements [1]
throw 2flip [0]
dance lift to star lift to one hand to change of position to spread eagle carry – strong, good extensions from her [1]
shoot-the-duck into fids with change of hold – good position [1]
spread eagles to axel lasso to one hand hold to difficult dismount – his footwork didn't flow very well [0]
pair change combination spin – quite good positions, could use more speed though [0]

Good postures and lines, neat and composed movement throughout. Everything looked very polished.

Whilst their technical arsenal is still somewhat limited (no sbs triple jump and only one throw triple), everything they perform is of good quality. They've shown to strong performances, skating to the top of their ability.

Provided she 'survives' puberty, they have incredible potential given he's new to pairs and this is their first season together.

12. Brittany JONES / Ian BEHARRY /CAN/
Winter and Summer from Four Seasons by A. Vivaldi

3twist – slightly underrotated, crash, landed on his shoulder [-2]
3toe – a little off-synch on the take-off but good height and clean landings [0]
choreographic sequence: front spirals / dance lift / front spiral [1]
throw 3loop – not a lot of height and slightly off-axis in the air but a clean landing with a nice extension [0]
2flip/2toe(a little bit off-synch) [0]
press lift to change of position to one hand to carry to difficult dismount [0]
throw 3salchow – not a great deal of hight but clean, good flow out [1]
flying camel/sit/up/change sit broken leg/up – well-synchronised, decent rotation speed [1]
axel lasso to one hand to difficult dismount – strong [1]
bods – weak position [-1]
pair change combination spin – first position slow, second not extended very well [-1]

Decent speed and quite a good job on the elements but they really need to work on extending their movements better. Everything looked quite ragged and unfinished.

Kristy Sargant Wirtz was with them in the Kiss & Cry and I couldn't help but notice that their presentation was as messy as the Wirtzes' used to be. :p

He was wearing a Yagudin inspired costume.

13. Haven DENNEY / Brandon FRAZIER /USA/
La Strada (soundtrack) by Nino Rota

3twist – good height and decent catch but a two-footed landing from him [0]
throw 3salchow [0] – off-axis in the air but she held the landing well
3salchow [0] – a little stutter on her landing (at first I thought it was two-footed but she was clean)
2axel into 2axel [0]
camel/sit/up raised leg/change sit/up var – well-synchronised [1]
axel lasso to reverse rotation to change of position to one hand – laboured, quite weak footwork from him [-1]
throw 3loop – scratchy landing but she hung on [-1]
pair change combination spin [1] – decent positions, could use a little bit more speed, though
star lift to change of position and one hand to difficult dismount [0] – entry a little tentative, strong lifting but his footwork was again quite weak and he was on two-feet on the landing (I think it was supposed to be a spread eagle but it didn't quite work out)
choreographic sequence: footwork / split jumps / back(poor extension from him) and catchfoot spirals [0]
into fids [0] – position not bad but could use more speed

A lot of speed and attack throughout. They skated with a lot of power. Some nice, in character movements at the start but they mostly skating from one element into another in the second half.

14. Margaret PURDY / Michael MARINARO /CAN/

dance lift to 3twist [-2] – big crash, not much of a catch she just fell on his shoulder, they did manage to maintain quite good flow throughout though
3toe/2toe [0]
2axel [0]
spiral moves to fids with change of hold – good position [1]
camel/up L/change sit holding foot(off-synch)/up [0] – decent positions and rotation speed (but they did go off-synch for a little bit)
spread eagle to axle lasso to one hand – a little laboured [-1] (they failed to get it up in the warm-up)
throw 3loop – not a lot of height, hand down, had to fight for the landing [-1]
choreographic sequence: front spirals / spread eagles / dance lift – nicely executed [1]
star lift to one hand to carry to difficult dismount – two-footed, a little heavy going into the carry and on the dismount [-1]
dance lift to throw 3salchow – not a lot of height but a solid landing with good flow out [1]
pair change combination spin – decent positions and rotation speed [1]

Speed and flow were decent and postures and lines weren't bad but they were a little cautious and tight in their movement (the nerves probably got to them) and the program didn't look as elegant and effective as the Short, as a result.

3toe – she cheated over 1/2 and had poor speed and flow coming out [-3]
Y spiral into bods with change of hold [0] – position not very good
flying camel/up Y/change sit cannonball [1] – well synchronised, decent rotation speed
choreographic sequence – could use a little more speed and attack [0]
steps to 3twist – good height, his free foot was a little late coming out though [1]
transitions to throw 3loop – high and secure [2]
throw 3salchow – good height and distance, had to fight for the landing though [0]
axel lasso to one hand to carry to difficult dismount [0]
fell on 'nothing' and it took them quite long to get back into the program
press lift to one hand and full split [0] – a little rushed as they lost a bit of time because of the fall
pair change combination spin – quite good positions and rotation speed [1]

They've shown some strong elements and a decently choreographed program but again they didn't push the presentation enough. Their skating is still quite cautious and introverted and they need to develop their performance skills. Basic skating could improve as well, D/F were much faster and P/M have shown much better flow.

steps towards 3twist – very high, strong catch [2]
3toe into 2axel – he fell [-2]
axel lasso to one hand to difficult dismount – a little bit laboured, two-footed landing from him [-1]
flying camel/sit/up/change sit cannonball(he travelled very slightly) [-1] - second change of position a little off-synch, rotation speed was decent though
choreographic sequence: front and back spiral / spread eagle and front spiral [1] – quite well extended position, decent speed
throw 3loop – fall [-3]
star lift to one hand to difficult dismount – a little laboured and a two-footed landing from him again [-1]
throw 3salchow – good height and distance, soft landing [1]
shoot-the-duck and spread eagle into fids with change of hold [-1] - foot down from her coming out
to pair change combination spin [0] – could use some more speed

They have quite good speed and their elements are extremely impressive when performed to the top of their ability but tonight, it just didn't work. They seemed quite tense and have made some uncharacteristic errors like the lifts being a little off or the weak death spiral exit. And they skated pretty much totally through the music.

They seem to have heaps of potential. The technical content is there (well it wasn't there tonight but they do have it) and they need to work on developing the second mark now. Stronger, more charactertistic choreography, slightly better postures, more upper body movement and so on. I am slightly worried that Stanislav 'Ogre' Morozov is not the man to do it but hopefully I am underestimating him and the fact that he always moved like a bull in the china shop and could not have been possibly any more stiff does not necessarily mean that he won't know better as a coach.

Tarasova burst into tears after seeing their placement and stormed off.

So if you see positive GOE, it means an element was executed to a high standard (and yes, I am generally being very nitpicky ;)).

Any questions, comments, criticisms and discussion are very welcome.

27. UNO Shoma /JPN/
Tanguera

3loop/3toe(not a lot of flow out) [0]
scratch butterflies to flying camel coe to upward catch to donut [0]
sit holding foot to pancake/jump to sit side twist [0]
3flip – gap after steps [-1]
camel/sit forward bend(fast)/change up var to cross-foot – good positions, quite good rotation speed [1]
straight line step sequence – very expressive, fast footwork [1]
ina bauer to 2axel – overrotated, hand down [-3]

Very expressive throughout. He showed a lot attack. Good use of upper body movement and he skated to the music well.

Good rotation speed on his combination spin but the flying camel and the change sit were a little slow.

28. LEE June Hyoung /KOR/
Capone by Ronan Hardiman

3axel – overrotated [-2]
3lutz [-3] – stepped out and fell
sit pancake(good position, quite good rotation speed/change sit/jump to sit side twist(slow, weak extension) [0]
3flip – straight off steps, could use some more flow out though [0]
camel/up L/change sit broken leg/up catch [0]
circular step sequence – good upper body movement, fast footwork [1]
to scratch butterflies to flying camel upward twist to donut to upward catch [0] – decent rotation speed but positions could have been better extended

The choreography reflected the character of the music quite well and there was quite a lot of upper body movement. He didn't sell it with a lot of attack or conviction, however (unlike Uno).

29. HINO Ryuju /JPN/
TaTaKu (best of Kodo) by Tetsuro Naito, Motofumi Yamaguchi

3axel [0] – clean but not a lot of height and leaning in the air slightly, good flow out though
1lutz/turn/3toe [-3] – telegraphed
flying camel to upward twist to catch – quite slow, positions not extended very well [-1]
3lip – weak landing, outside edge on take-off [-2]
sit var/change sit broken leg – fast rotation [1]
straight line step sequence – good flow, a lot of upper body movement [1]
to camel/sit var coe/up forward bend/change camel/jump to sit/up cross-foot(fast) [1] – a little slow on the camel and sit after the change of foot but fast otherwise

His edges are quite good and he was able to maintain quite good speed and flow throughout. He really lacks performance skills however. He skated looking down on the ice and was just going through the motions, not presenting the program out to the judges and the audience. His movements were quite stiff and he doesn't know how to use his arms.

30. ZHANG He /CHN/
Minnie the Moocher (from Blues Brothers soundtrack) by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Sing Sing Sing by Louis Prima

2axel – solid, good flow out [1]
3lutz/3toe(weak landing, foot down quickly) [-1]
sit cannonball to forward bend/change sit/jump to sit to var(slow) [0]
3flip – quite high and solid but a gap after steps [0]
scratch butterfly to flying camel to upward twist coe to donut [0]
straight line step sequence – good flow and upper body movement [1]
camel/sit side twist/change up butt out to up – good positions and rotation speed [1]

Very good use of the whole body throughout. His movements were very well extended and he was very expressive.

He is the most interesting Chinese skater I have seen to date, by far and his basics are far better than what you'd expect.

31. Jason BROWN /USA/
The Question of U by Prince

3axel [0] – entry quite long and not a lot of flow out but quite good height
steps towards 3lutz(weak landing)/turn/2toe [-2] – his timing was little late on the lutz, he cheated it slightly and just didn't have the momentum to do the toe straight off
flying camel to upward catch to coe – very good position and rotation speed [2]
to back sit leg behind/sit var/jump to sit [1]
steps directly to 3flip [0]
straight line step sequence – very detailed footwork and upper body movement, fast steps and turns [2]
camel to var/sit/up L/change camel/sit side twist/up [0] – a little tentative at times, fortunately he managed to maintain focus and it didn't all go wrong (which was a possibility from the way it looked)

Very detailed choreography. He used every inch of his body to interpret the music throughout. Fantastic posture and lines.

This is probably the best men's short program of the season. It deserved PCS in the 7s and 8s.

32. Joshua FARRIS /USA/
Suite for Solo Cello No 1 in G Major: Prelude by Yo-Yo Ma

steps towards 3axel – high and solid [1]
3lutz/3toe [1] – solid, good speed and flow out, entry a little telegraphed though
scratch butterflies to flying camel to catch to upward catch – quite good rotation speed [1]
footwork directly to 3flip – pitched forward on the landing, lack of speed coming out [-1]
sit to cannonball/change sit broken leg to forward tuck [1]
camel coe/up butt out/change sit to holding foot/up L – good extension in his positions, good flow throughout [1]
circular step sequence – good speed and flow [1]

Strong basic skating, very good speed and flow throughout. Elegant and precise movement. I felt the program lacked character however. The upper body movement was quite sparse and nowhere near as detailed as Brown's.

He deserved to beat Brown on the SS and probably TR as well but not on PE, CH and IN.

Red Blues by Cole Porter

3axel – telegraphed, underrotated over half a revolution, fall [-3]
3flip [0] – not a lot of flow out, some transitions coming out of the jump
flying camel upward twist to donut to upward catch [0] – could use more speed
3flutz(cheated over a quarter, weak landing, poor speed out)/3toe(cheated over 1/2) [-3]
sit to holding foot/change sit forward tuck – quite fast rotation, good positions [1]
straight line step sequence – quite fast footwork [1]
turns to camel/sit coe to side twist/change up var to cross-foot – good rotation speed [1]

It's a fun, perky, upbeat program and he's presented it very well during the JGP. Here, however he seemed quite cautious and tentative and mostly focused on his technical elements.

He fell on the 3axel in the warm-up as well so this jump is not very consistent for him yet but given how young he is, it's incredible that he's even attempting it.

sit cannonball to coe/jump to sit to forward bend(slow) [0]
3flip – not a lot of flow out, long gap after steps [-2]
scratch butterflies to flying camel to upward twist to donut to upward catch [1]
straight line step sequence [1]
camel/up L/change sit/jump to sit broken leg [1]

Good posture and lines. The strong, upright back and the sharp staccato movements captured the character of the tango music well.
unextended ina bauer into 3axel – poor flow out [-1]
3lutz/2toe – slightly telegraphed [0]
flying camel to coe to catch – slow, poor extension [-1]
3flip – weak landing, turnout [-2]
straight line step sequence [0]
sit to side twist/change sit var/jump to sit broken leg – poorly extended positions, not a lot of speed [-1]
camel/sit holding foot/up butt out/change camel/sit forward bend/up cross-foot – slow after change of foot [-1]

Weak basics. He lacked speed, skated with rounded shoulders throughout and just went through the motions, not extending his movements properly or presenting the program out to the judges and the audience (he needs to stop looking down on the ice).

36. Petr COUFAL /CZE/
The Last of the Mohicans (soundtrack) by Trevor Jones, Randy Edelman

3lutz – fall [-3]
1flip [-3]
scratch butterfly to flying camel to upward twist to upward catch(good extension) – could use some more speed [0]
spread eagle to 2axel [0] – landing not held long, not a lot of flow out
camel/sit broken leg/up raised knee/change camel/sit var/up cross-foot [-1] – poor rotation speed, lacked flow
sit/jump to sit(a little off-centred)/cannonball/forward tuck – a little slow [-1]
straight line step sequence – quite scratchy edges, not a lot of speed [-1]

A weak, sluggish performance. He lacked confidence and just seemed to be going through the motions.

37. Michael Christian MARTINEZ /PHI/
Nocturne from Bohemian Rhapsody by Luca Miracelli

3axel [0] – very high, could use some more flow out though
charlotte to steps to 3lutz/2toe – solid [1]
sit broken leg to forward tuck/change sit/jump to sit side twist – very well extended positions, good rotation speed [1]
cantilever to steps to 3lip – landing not very strong, outside edge on take-off [-2]
to scratch butterflies to flying camel upward twist to donut to upward catch – good extension and rotation speed [1]
circular step sequence [1] – good expression, loved the eye contact with the judges, decent speed
camel/sit/up Y(full split!)/change up biellmann(full split!) - very good positions, decent rotation speed [1]

He's long-limbed, lanky and not very balletic but you could see he was making a lot effort throughout, trying to extend all of his movements and present them well.

Whilst his skating is not yet at the level of the three US guys (not as much speed and power in his basic skating, posture and lines could be stronger) and the choreography could have used some more character, there was a fair amount of transitions in the program and he really gave it his 110% presenting it.

A new personal best for him, very well deserved.

Pairs – Short Program

Detailed Classification
Judges Scores

Disclaimer: The GOE values listed next to the elements are the ones, I'd award if I was a judge, to give you a general impression of how well it was executed. I try to describe each of the elements but there's not always time to be as detailed as I would like and those numbers can sometimes say a thousand words. So if you see positive GOE, it means an element was executed to a high standard (and yes, I am generally being very nitpicky ;)).

Any questions, comments, criticisms and discussion are very welcome.

5. Brittany JONES / Ian BEHARRY /CAN/
Black Magic Woman by Santana

2twist – high and clean [1]
2axel – his was messy in the air and a little shaky on the landing, hers clean [-1]
throw 3salchow – good height, solid landing with nice extension [1]
shoot-the-duck into bods – position a little weak [-1]
press lift to change of position and one hand hold to difficult dismount – strong [1]
straight line step sequence [0]
flying camel/sit/change sit broken leg/up – well synchronised [1]

Decent speed and power but could use some more relation to the music.

6. Hayleigh BELL / Alistair SYLVESTER /CAN/
Charleston by Cecil Mack

2twist – clean but lacking height [0]
throw 3salchow – weak landing, overrotated [-2]
press lift to one hand hold and dismount – scratchy footwork, not a lot of speed [-1]
mirrored straight line step sequence – weak edges [-1]
2axel – he fell [-3]
flying camel/sit(off-synch)/up/change sit broken leg [-1]
his Y spiral into bods – very weak position, quite scratchy edge [-2]

Their basics aren't very strong. Postures and lines could be extended better and edges were quite scratchy.

They skated through the music looking cautious and tentative. I imagine they probably either nervous or focusing on their elements but the performance aspect was really lacking. They need more confidence and attack.

7. Anabelle PRΦLSS / Ruben BLOMMAERT /GER/
Italian Fantasia performed by Orchestra Mantovani

2axel – quite far apart but soft and solid landings [1]
dance lift to 2twist with arms above – not a lot of height but clean and quite effortless [1]
throw 3salchow – not a lot of height, landing a little scratchy [0]
press lift to one hand hold and dismount and reverse rotation – strong, decent extensions from her but he two-footed the landing [0]
mirrored straight line step sequence into hold – quite sharp footwork, good upper body movement [1]
flying camel/sit/up L/change sit broken leg – off-synch from the second position until the end [-2]
Y spiral into bods [0]

Decent basics and choreography. They could have shown a little more attack but they showed quite clean lines and skated to the music quite well.

Lots of potential here. She is a diva in the making. Exudes confidence and you just can't take your eyes off her. A very strong skater for a 13-year old (she was also a silver medallist in Junior Ladies at German Nationals).

I am very surprised they aren't representing Belgium, though. Blommaert is Belgian and he represented it internationally in singles. There are no Belgian pair teams at present so they would be guaranteed to be able to enter any competition they wanted, if they represented that country instead of Germany.

8. Evgenia TARASOVA / Vladimir MOROZOV /RUS/
Liquidation (soundtrack)

2twist with arms above – very high and solid [2]
2axel – he seemed to have landed it ok but was too deep on the outside edge, caught the toe-pick and fell [-3]
throw 3salchow – solid [1]
spread eagle and shoot-the-duck into bods with change of hold [1]
press lift to one hand hold and dismount – solid [1]
straight line step sequence first in hold and then mirrored [0]
flying camel/sit/up/change sit cannonball [1] – very well synchronised, decent rotation speed

Quite good speed throughout but the program lacked character. They skated to the music well during the step sequence, reflecting the bluesy character of the track with their soft movements but prior to that, they have mostly skated from one element into another.

Their pair elements are very impressive, however and they skate with a lot of power. Some polishing work is needed now. Stronger choreography, more attention paid to extending their movements and presenting their programs. But they definitely have a lot of potential.

9. LI Meiyi / JIANG Bo /CHN/
Fantastic African Dance

press lift to change of position and one hand to difficult dismount – laboured change of position, her extensions lacking [-1]
2axel – weak, over the toe landing from him [-1]
throw 3salchow – decent height but not a lot of flow out [0]
dance lift to 2twist with arms above – high but not the most elegant catch and a two-footed landing from him [0]
Y spiral to bods – weak edge, position not very good [-1]
straight line step sequence – quite slow, weak edges [-1]
flying camel/up Y/change sit cannonball/up [-2] – he lost balance getting into the Y position, travelled a lot and barely stayed upright, then travelled again going into cannonball (was lucky not to crash into her)

Weak basics. Shallow, scratchy edges. Postures and lines not extended very well.

They skated through the music most of the time with blank and disinterested facial expressions. There was one point where they did some 'tribal' movements to the music whilst standing still and they looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but there. It was quite excrutiating.

The orientalist costume (faux leopard print) and music (faux 'tribal' drums) really made my skin crawl.

10. Margaret PURDY / Michael MARINARO /CAN/
O Mio Babbino Caro by Giaccomo Puccini

2twist – not a lot of height, slight crash (she landed on his shoulder) [-1]
2axel – quite far apart [0]
Y spiral to bods with change of hold [0]
press lift to change of position and one hand to difficult dismount – heavy and laboured, his shoulders didn't seem locked properly [-1]
transitions to throw 3salchow – clean but didn't get a lot of height [0]
straight line step sequence in hold and then mirrored – quite good flow [1]
camel/sit/up L/change sit holding foot(positions not matching)/up – well synchronised, quite good rotation speed [1]

An elegant, classical routine. Good postures and lines and a decent flow throughout. A well choreographed, simple but effective program.

There is very little height difference between them. Given how their twist, throw and lift looked, it's evidently making some of their pair elements very difficult to execute and I am not sure how much of a future they have as a result. It's a real shame because they have good chemistry and look well together. Whilst such height difference would be appropriate for a dance team, it just isn't enough to be competitive in pairs at the senior level.

11. Britney SIMPSON / Matthew BLACKMER /USA/
Flamenco by Didulia

2twist – not a lot of height, two-footed by him [-1]
throw 3salchow – solid [1]
press lift to change of position and one hand to difficult dismount – laboured, two-footed by him [-2]
steps towards 2axel – she underrotated over a quarter and fell [-3]
spread eagle and Y spiral into bods – weak position, scratchy edge [-1]
straight line step sequence [0]
camel/sit/up/change sit to cannonball – rotation speed slow [-1]

Decent basic skating and speed. Quite good postures and lines and a fair amount of attack. The program could have used more character, however. You'd never guess it was a Flamenco if the music was off. Something simple like the hand/wrist movements would make a big difference.

They are another team which is really close in height and it was showing on the twist and the lift. It will be very hard for them to transition into the seniors.

12. YU Xiaoyu / JIN Yang /CHN/
Violin Concerto in E minor op. 64 by Felix Mendelssohn

2axel – solid [1]
steps to 2twist with arms above – very high [2]
transitions towards throw 3salchow – a lot of height, could use a little more control in the air and speed on the landing, though [1]
press lift to change of position and one hand hold to difficult dismount [1]
Y spiral to bods [0]
straight line step sequence – could use some more speed [0]
flying camel/up L/change sit holding foot(went a little off-synch) [0]

Very strong elements and their program was quite well choreographed, featuring some interesting transitions and a fair amount of arm movements throughout.

Unfortunately, they just seemed to be going through the motions. They need to work on their performance skills and show more attack and conviction in executing all of their movements as well as some emotions (they skated with blank facial expression). Some more speed and power in their skating would be good as well.

They seem to be following the usual Chinese pair development route of working on the technical elements first and developing their presentation later (hopefully). There's a lot of potential here.

13. Haven DENNEY / Brandon FRAZIER /USA/
Malaguena by Ernesto Lecouna

2twist – very high and solid but his free foot was a little late coming out [1]
throw 3salchow – off-axis in the air and not a lot of height, I was sure she would fall but the landing was very solid [0]
2axel – could use more flow out [0]
camel/sit/up raised knee/change sit/up var – well synchronised [1]
press lift to change of position and one hand hold to difficult dismount – quite strong but two-footed [0]
Y spiral to bods – good rotation speed [1]
straight line step sequence – good attack [1]

Quite good basics and a lot of speed. The program could use more character, however. A lot of the time they were just stroking from one element into another.

Impressive technical elements, however. They seem to have a lot of potential.

14. Julia LAVRENTIEVA / Yuri RUDYK /UKR/
Sherlock Holmes a Game of Shadows (soundtrack) by Hans Zimmer

footwork to 2twist – high [1]
throw 3salchow – decent height but a scratchy landing [0]
steps towards 2flip [1] – solid landings, there were steps coming out of the jump as well
press lift to change of position and one hand hold and dismount – two-footed, took them quite a long time to get to one hand [-1]
bods – weak position, entry quite tentative [-1]
flying camel/sit/up/change sit broken leg(went a little off-synch) – could use some more speed [-1]
straight line step sequence – could use more speed and attack [-1]

The music had a very strong beat and a fair amount of highlights as well. It's a shame they mostly skated through it and didn't make better use of it. More attack would have been nice too see as well.

15. Lina FEDOROVA / Maxim MIROSHKIN /RUS/
Singin' in the Rain

cantilevers towards 2twist – absolutely unebelievable height [3]
throw 3salchow – huge but she didn't have a lot of balance on the landing and eventually fell [-3]
2axel – far apart, her landing not very strong [0]
press lift to one hand to change of position to one hand to difficult dismount – strong [1]
bods – very good rotation speed [1]
straight line step sequence [0]
camel/sit/up biellmann/change camel upward catch – well synchronised, good positions [1]

Incredible height on twist and throw and an easy lift but other elements weren't as impressive. The program was generic and their movements not extended or finished very well. Surprisingly little polish for a Russian team.

16. Jessica CALALANG / Zack SIDHU /USA/
Elite Synoptications by Scott Joplin

2axel – she underrotated over a quarter and fell [-3]
2twist with arms above – slight crash [-1]
throw 3salchow – decent height but a tentative entry and not a very strong landing [0]
flying camel/sit/up raised knee/change sit to forward bend – quite well synchronised, rotation speed not bad [1]
press lift to one hand hold and dismount [1]
straight line step sequence – one of those neverending ones... good character though [1]
spread eagle into bods [0]

Extremely tedious and repetitive music but they did do quite a good job of moving in time to it and reflecting its character with their range of movement. Postures and lines quite decent.

26. Valeria ZENKOVA / Valeri SINITSIN /RUS/
Blues: Your Heart Is As Black As Night
Swing: Brother Swing

blues sequence – good flow, nice extensions [1]
midline not touching step sequence [1]
blues sequence [0]
twizzle: arm above and catch into clockwise shoulder on face and above head – well synchronised [1]
catchfoot rotational lift [1]

A solid, polished performance. Decent flow, neat movement. His posture and lines could improve, however, and I wish their movements were 'bigger.'

27. Alexandra Aldridge / Daniel Eaton /USA/
Swing: Pennsylvania 6-5000 by Brian Setzer
Blues: Down Home Blues by Gene Harris

midline not touching step sequence – great expression, fast, bold curves [2]
twizzles: arm above and catch into clockwise arms to the side to arms on hips – very fast and well synchronised, difficult entry [2]
blues sequence – a little slow and cautious [0]
blues sequence – again, a little slow and tentative, edges a bit shaky and scratchy [-1]
catchfoot rotational lift – good entry but rotation a little slow [0]

Great attack and expression throughout. Whilst their performance skills were second to none, basic skating still needs work, as was evident on the compulsory sequences.

Krylova and Scali with them in the Kiss & Cry.

28. Shari KOCH / Christian NάCHTERN /GER/
Blues: Feeling Good by Michael Buble
Swing: Pachuca (from "The Mask" soundtrack)

blues sequence – quite close together, decent flow [1]
circular not touching step sequence [0]
blues sequence – close together again, could get a bit more glide however [0]
twizzles: arm above and catch into clockwise – hers a little slow and weak so synch was a little off [-1]
catchfoot rotational lift [0]

They seemed to be really focused on executing each technical element and their presentation suffered as a result. Their movement was quite neat and composed but they didn't project out to the judges and audience. Performance aspect was lacking.

blues sequence – a little cautious [0]
spread eagle catchfoot curve lift [1]
circular not touching step sequence – very close together – movements could be finished off better, could use more flow [0]
blues sequence – again, could use a little more speed and attack [0]
twizzles: arm above and catchfoot into clockwise arms folded into arms next to head – fast and well synchronised [2]

Very busy choreography featuring a lot of upper body movement throughout, sold well. They should work on finishing their movements off however. It sometimes looked a little messy. Cleaner lines and pointed toes would make a big difference in how their program is received.

30. Gabriella PAPADAKIS / Guillame CUIZERON /FRA/
Blues: Minnie the Moocher
The Dirty Boogie

twizzles: arm on chest and catch into clockwise into arms above – fast, very secure and well synchronised [2]
blues sequence – close together, very neat footwork [1]
blues sequence – again, neat and smooth footwork [1]
midline not touching step sequence – good speed and expression [1]
spread eagle straight line lift with changes of position – difficult entry [1]

Good attack and expression throughout, very nice lines and expresions. Everything looked neat and controlled. They managed to express the character of the music well in both sections. Very good job on all of the technical elements as well.

31. Alexandra STEPANOVA / Ivan BUKIN /RUS/
Blues
Swing

twizzles: arm above and catch into clockwise arms on chest into arm above and raised knee – fast and well synchronised [2]
blues sequence – lovely extensions [1]
spread eagle straight line lift with changes of position – very strong, effortless changes of position [2]
blues sequence – strong edges [1]
not touching midline circular step sequence [1]

Technically this was a really strong performance and their basic skating is very good. Deep, clean edges. The choreography was a little generic, however, and they didn't do as good a job with interpreting the music as Papadakis/Cuizeron.

I would have gone with them on TES and SS but with P/C on the other PCS.

32. Madeline EDWARDS / Zhao Kai PANG /CAN/
Blues: Why Don't You Do Right
Swing: Mr. Pinstripe Suit by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

straight line one foot lift – nice entry, secure throughout [1]
blues sequence – good flow [1]
blues sequence [1]
twizzles: arm above and catch into clockwise arms behind into arms to the sides of the head(fast) – very fast on the last twizzle but a little slow on the clockwise [0]
not touching midline step sequence [1]

Elegant, good flow throughout.

They have a lot of potential, provided she doesn't outgrow him (they're very close in height).

33. Anna NAGORNYUK / Viktor KOVALENKO /UZB/
Blues: One Night by Elvis Presley
Jive: Long Tall Sally by Elvis Presley

blues sequence – edges not very secure, extensions lacking [-1]
blues sequence [0]
spread eagle straight line lift [0]
twizzles: catch and arm on head into clockwise arms on hips(a little off-synch) into arms on left hip(a little bit off-synch) – good speed [0]
not touching circular step sequence [0]

Generic choreography as you could expect from Kustarova and Alexeeva. This wasn't bad (other than the compulsory sequences) but they looked really out of their league in this group.

I was very surprised to see them being marked so high. The late starting order must have helped.

34. Sofia SFORZA / Francesco FIORETTI /ITA/
Separation Blues by Maria Muldaur, Bonnie Raitt
Swing, Brother, Swing by Casey McGill

not touching circular step sequence – quite good flow, deep edges [1]
blues sequence [0]
blues sequence [0] – decent on both blues sequences but could use a little more speed and flow
steps to twizzles: arm above and catch(she was a bit late going in, struggled a little throughout and had a very weak exit dropping her foot down and turning out) into arms extended into clockwise [-2]
catchfoot roational lift – quite good but a deliberate set-up [0]

Twizzles aside, this was not a very bad job, but they don't have the speed and power of the other top teams from the last two warm-up groups. Decent performance skills, however, they sold the program quite well.

35. Mackenzie BENT / Garrett MACKEEN /CAN/
Blues: History Is Made At Night by Marc Shaiman
Swing: I Never Met A Wolf Who Didn't Love

blues sequence [0]
blues sequence – quite good flow and extensions [1]
waltz jump to twizzles: arm above and bent knee into clockwise arms folded(a little weak) [0]
midline not touching step sequence [1]
spread eagle curve lift with changes of position [1]

Very good lines and extensions, sold the program well. Program construction was quite basic, however, with a lot of stroking and a lack of connecting movement.

I will be trying not to worry (too much ;)) about them being perfect and will try post them after each event.

I'm afraid that there won't be many skaters covered this time due to the coverage being limited. :(

Any questions, comments, criticisms and discussion are very welcome.

Disclaimer:

Yep, I know I am very nitpicky (on triple twists in particular where the judges seem to be blind to numerous errors that usually happen :P).

The GOE values listed next to the elements are the ones, I'd give if I was a judge. I try to describe all of the elements but there's not always time to be as detailed as I would like so if you see positive GOE, it means an element was executed to a high standard. PCS would be even more fun to do but just no time to think about them given I have to type everything up.

The reports are based on a tv broadcast so certain things (like ice coverage, for example) I don't get as good a sense of as somebody watching live.

Did anybody else pick up on the piece of good news that Simon Reed announced on air after Brooklee Han's SP at the 4CC?
EUROSPORT ARE SHOWING THE JUNIOR WORLDS!!!!!!

Just remember, one of Eurosport's figure skating commentators (Simon Reed) is actually head of commentary at Eurosport. So, he does have some influence. If there is enough evidence that there is demand for more figure skating coverage, I am sure he would put forward a good argument to his bosses for showing more figure skating. Whether they would heed it or not is another matter, though...

I wonder if Eurosport showing the Junior Worlds for the first time, as well as the return of the Four Continents, is a sign that Simon is finally starting to get through to head office that there is a demand for more Figure Skating on our TV screens...?

Now, unfortunately the schedules on the various Eurosport websites don't go that far yet. But, given how much the schedules changed in the week leading up to the 4CC, it would probably be better to wait until a few days beforehand to post the various Eurosport schedules.

I'll keep you posted
