Well, it's is no different from other professional sports. Athletes can choose whether or not they want to change clubs or coaches. Sotskova has made her choice.

Buyanova's group has the best training conditions in Russia. Unrivaled. She is also a good coach. And then there is also that matter of a PCS advantage...

CSKA is a very rich and powerful club. And Buyanova is the head coach of figure skating there.

Perhaps Maria just feels that Panova has taken her as far as she can. And to go further she needs a coaching change.
Rafa is not that realistic an option. There would be monetary issues.

Well good for her :handw: I'm happy :agree: Thanks for the news!

If it is Buyanova, I will be mad.

She is just stealing young talents from their coaches - Proklova, Pitkeev and now Sotskova. And I wonder why they all go to her? Buyanova's student are never consistent - Kovtun and Sotnikova...

I would rather like Sotskova move to Arutyunyan as she worked with him almost all last summer

Arutyunyan would have been impossible, but with Panova she was working with Rafa's staff and to me that would have been a better option for international competitions.

Buyanova is not the best russian coach to me, but hey she works in the most important skating club in Russia with PCS advantage guaranteed at every national competition for her students (which is a huge thing considering how tough is the competition in Russia right now) and Tatiana Tarasova, Irina Tagaeva and Peter Tchernyshev help her with their experience in FS.

Also we don't know if Adelina will ever comes back at her best, and in that case Sotskova would be the best lady skater in Buyanova's group.

Of all the coaches she could have picked she picks Buyanova?!?! What goes through her mind when she see's Sot and Kovtun skate and go "Yes I want to skate like them. Let me join their coach." Oh Maria Maria.

I don't really care about where Mashe skates. I just want her to keep skating. She's one of the most original skatets I can think of.

I dont like poaching !!! :angry1:
I always thought Masha and Panova had good coach-student relationship, this such a blow to the coaches morale imo :sad14:

Buyanova isn't known for her stable skaters or have problems with injuries like Sotnikova, Kovtun, Proklova
so Masha now joining Pitkeev ?? this looks like Buyanova is now investing in new skaters so maybe Sotnikova wont stick around that long :eek:hwell:

I don't get the hubbub about the coaching switch here. To be honest, I was expecting her to switch to someone else this year. She has clearly outgrown for Panova's camp.....which is to not say that Panova did anything wrong but if there was, wouldn't Panova have rallied about her being taken away unjustly already?

Anyway, I'm excited to see how she progresses at CSKA.

Maria celebrates her birthday today! I do love her refined and aristocratic manner of skating! Her programs are always stories on the ice. Her skates, like pen of a famous writer, transport us to the palazzo on a Venice carnival, or to New York, the world of Holly Golightly, whisper mysterious spells of the black magic woman, recount tragic story of young Juliet…
Our gentle steadfast Tin Soldier, Maria, 16 is a beautiful age: much done and gone, but so much to do! I wish you the best and believe in your star!
P.S. Judging by her instagram, she is spending her vacation in Vienna! Nice! Mmm, I almost feel the seductive scent of Viennese coffee houses!..

Fotoset of Maria's SP training process, made in Debrecen on the 17-th of March by Michail Sharov. No video, unfortunately. Usually in SP Maria felt herself a little bit stiff and nervous. At that time, she skated more relaxed and, according to Michail's opinion, this performance turned to be the best. Photos do not lie!

I wonder how Masha is doing... I didn't hear any news about her training after the move to CSKA

First Maria's interview in CSKA. With Elena Vodorezova's comment :)

- Masha, did you made contact immediately with your new coach?

- During the first day I was very nervous, afraid of how things’ll be. Elena Vodorezova came to the rink so serious. To that day I didn’t train during a week, I was not in form, and it was necessary to get mobilized immediately and quickly. I made it. And then gradually I calmed down and we started to work, work, work... I feel that progress is good. Every day me and Maxim Zavozin work on slipping. I feel that I became to slip wider and more rolling. Work (in this direction) should be carried out regularly, every day, and not by case, as previously. In the past, Maxim came to us on the ice rink in Novokosino, not often, and we did everything little by little. Now, on the contrary, we do everything and at once.

- Are your new programs ready?

- Yes. My FP was directed by Peter Chernyshev, SP - by Nikita Mikhailov. It so happened that FP is a continuation of the SP. To say briefly, in SP I’am in a cocoon, try to get out, but it's hard. Therefore, there is modern choreography in the program, some trendy movements, which we polish with our choreographer, Irina Tagaeva. A free program is light and airy. A pupa turned into a butterfly, and can flit, fly...

- Who is an author of this idea?

- Elena Germanovna. She offered to make FP flying, airy, and SP - on the contrast. In the SP we originally planned other music, but in the process of staging we came to idea to unite both programs by the music of the same composer - Alfred Schnittke. Honestly, I am very grateful to all - to my coach and directors for the help, because for me is a great problem to find the suitable music and imagine themes for future programs. Always somebody finds music and offers ideas.

- Previously, an ice-rink was close to your home. But now it is necessary to go to CSKA from Reutov...

- But what's unusual with that? Almost all countryman get to the workplace for long time. So I'm neither first, nor the last. It’s OK. The trip to the rink takes an hour. Not so scary. I thought it would be much worse. My mom and dad spend an hour to their workplace, too.

- Why did you decide to part with your former coach?

- - It was not spontaneous, but reasonable decision. I can not say that I left in a fit of temper, rashly, or something like that. It was a difficult to part, but I chose another path. Plus working conditions in our rink in Novokosino got worse: the number of newcomers increased a lot. To skate on same ice with 13-14 children is really hard. So left Svetlana Panova not because of misunderstanding or losing a comfort in our relationships. No. She is an excellent specialist and I'm grateful to her for all the work and care. I left not because of the coach, but because of the conditions. After all, no matter how great coach you have. Without acceptable conditions for training it’s hard to achieve something worthwhile.

- It is you, who chose your new team?

- Yes. I found Elena Germanovna’s telephone number. Made a call. Two days spent in suspense. But in the end everything turned out well.

- So, at first you explained all to Svetlana Panova, and then began to think, what's next?

- Yes, at first I parted with her, and only then began to look for a new coach. Otherwise, it could be regarded it as a betrayal. So I went “to nowhere”. If I would be received in CSKA or not - that was another question.

- And if you failed to transfer to CSKA? Did it mean the finish of your career as a skater?

- No, I have not finished. My career in the sport has only begun. In the new season I’m going to try at senior level, so everything is ahead, I hope.

Comment of coach, Elena Vodorezova (Buyanova):

- We had to put Maria’s new programs in a short time. I wanted to do something special, unusual, like a light breath, fresh stream because Maria’s skating reminds me skating of Carolina Kostner. And indeed it is.
Peter Chernyshev had a very busy schedule, everything was planned for two months forward, and to squeeze into his schedule seemed almost unreal. But when he took music of Alfred Schnittke, I immediately said that this is Masha’s, because I heard in this music all that was most appropriate to her. We must pay tribute to Pyotr: being too busy, he managed to find time for directing Maria’s FP. But he had no time for the SP. So we introduced to the work on SP my former pupil, Nikita Mikhailov, - a talented guy who has a lot of different ideas, nonstandard vision...
In parallel, our sound composer looked for suitable options for the SP, and unexpectedly also chose music of Alfred Schnittke. So the idea to combine the two programs together was born.
Nikita and Peter did what we wanted, tried to underline strong features of the skater - her grace, easiness, beautiful lines, hands ... I’m grateful to everyone who helped and is helping us in our work. I really hope that we will succeed and we will see a new Masha Sotskova.

So excited, Schnittke x 2, plus working on her SS :yahoo: Also nice to get confirmation that Buyanova didn't steal her from Panova ;)

Hope her senior debut is a successful one :agree:

For me lines about her moving were the main part of the interview. I even felt relief, that it was done in that way! But, on the other hand, it is sad, that a member of the national team can't get adequate training conditions, so must face the necessity to make such a stressful decision!
