Yes, I know I'm a bit early but I just have to start this conversation.

This season's short dances have been a bit disappointing in that apart from V/M and honorable mention to the Danes F/B& S most have simply just not lived up to expectations. Some will roll their eyes at my obvious omission of P/C but I just find them uneven this year. Their paso doble by comparison was just riveting.

To get the convo started I'll present for your consideration Mana - Mariposa. Michal and Joanna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKPqmSicnYI)interpreted this perfectly I think on the floor. Could something similar be done on ice?

Looking forward to other great suggestions as well as whom you think would be able to do it justice.

Crowd friendly

Sopa de caracol Shibs / V/M https://youtu.be/HduS169fsJI?t=8
El venado (comical song) Shibs / G/P https://youtu.be/DloxuSM5SJI?t=68
Suavemente Elvis Crespo V/M / I/Z https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPiEbYSF9kE
Solo se vive una vez Shibs / H/D / Adria and Olivia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxrUkFQHYpg

Romantic

Burbujas de amor H/B / S/K https://youtu.be/eaBk4-UT53U?t=169
Devórame otra vez ( I am not sure if it is a latin rhythm) H/D / P/C https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzgh2fHfle0
Perfume de Gardenias P/C / S/K https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_ZlJFBbK9s
Luces de Nueva York B/S https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k35LxY9bns

Obvious but still effective

La conga Shibs / C/B / I/Z https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8v6cZ21vlc
La vida es un carnaval Shibs/ S/B / C/L https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nBFWzpWXuM
Lambada V/M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csaUvkYOkLY
De mi tierra Shibs / C/B / I/Z / M/R (Muramoto and Reed) / H/K (Sara and Kiril) https://youtu.be/acGY2gYtOtU?t=18

Obviously the rhythm of some songs would need to be modified, but if V/M could use to Thalia, I guess ice dancers can to use whatever.

so, basically the 2 options next season will be romantic/sensual vs dancing/catchy songs , if this season is an indication, catchy songs will be more successful.

I think Weaver / Poje, Stepanova / Bukin can really excel in SD next season, no matter the music.

hip hip chin chin was so perfect for v/m, I don't know if they can find anything better than that..

Even if they are not so good, probably they will be the best compared with the others teams.

lol I agree. But it's olympics and it might be their last season, I just wish they can leave something people can talk about it forever like they did at Vancouver.

I hope every top dance team takes extensive lessons in latin dance and move their hips. The 2011-2012 SDs were severely lacking in dance and flavor.

I'm sad you feel that way, I think SDs this year are pretty enjoyable overall: some didn't come out particularly great, but still I appreciated many people for trying something different/out of the box (apart maybe from Hubbell/Donohue, they tried too hard I guess:hopelessness: ). Especially because last season was a snoozefest, despite the fact that I love waltzes, I still rewatch some SDs from 2011(with the golden waltz) but none from last season.

I loved hip hip, chin chin for V/M, but TBH I preferred it as the FD version than the SD one, so there is room for improvement.

But considering that next season will be the olympic season maybe most persons will take a more classical route with the FD. I'm imagining more cheeky, fiery or even comical SDs next season. I actually liked the fun take that B/S and S/B took with some galas recently, it could be a refreshing take on things.

Does Matador from Los Fabulosos Cadillacs fit the SD? I've always wanted to see it and next season seems the only chance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjPA7CXutDw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I don´t think so, it is rock, right? , the rhythms are Rhumba, Samba, Mambo, ChaCha, Meringue, Salsa, and Bachata. But I am not sure, ice dancers and their teams do whatever they want. They always can modify a little the rhythm. But you know, thinking about it, probably yes, you heard that song of Thalía ¨mujer latina¨?, it is vile pop, and V/M skated with that music at 2011-2012.

I want them to bring the sexy sultry.

I want the woman in lingerie and the man in pajama bottoms and a wifebeater sporting a fake gang tattoo.

No lame Dancing with the Stars rhumbas.

It's just hit me how difficult it will be for the Shibs to thread the needle on this SD.
