Men:

My ideal podium:
1) Evan Lysacek (with a clean quad)
2) Ryan Bradley (I still adore the guy, even though I know he will not make the podium unless disaster ensues)
3) Yannick Ponsero

What I think will happen:
1) Evan Lysacek
2) Patrick Chan
3) Sergei Voronov

Women:
My ideal podium:
1) Fumie Suguri ( I can still dream)
2) Bebe Liang (again....ideal podium, but highly unlikely)
3) Caroline Zhang

What I think will actually happen:
1) Carolina Kostner or Caroline Zhang (if she's cleaned her jumps up)
2) whoever does take gold from above
3) Joannie Rochette (but I'm still hoping Fumie pulls through)

Ladies
1) Joannie Rochette, always good at home
2) Caroline Zhang, with a 170+ score
3) Carolina Kostner, perhaps winning the SP
4) Alissa Czisny, Fumie Suguri, or Nana Takeda

If Caroline Zhang has gotten stronger, make that a 180+ personal best score, with most of the improvement coming from higher PC scores. I think that she would pace herself on the jumps so as to avoid getting injured and focus her extra strength on her presentation. She needs to be ready for her next assignment two weeks later. If not stronger, then she'll skate like she did at World Juniors.

Men:
1. Evan Lysachek (if he makes too many mistakes, Chan can take it)
2. Patrick Chan (if he falls to often, Ponsero will get ahead b/c of the quad)
3. Yannik Ponsero

Ladies:
Honestly, I have no idea. This one could go to anyone, since there is no Asada or Kim to put a lock on gold. My guess for potential medallists are Kostner, Rochette, Zhang and maybe Suguri (who I thought had retired).

Pairs:
1. Dube & Davison (refinement, consistency and their newly aquired triple twist should do the trick)
2. Kawaguchi & Smirnov (they usually score well, even after that mess of a FS at worlds, so I expect they'll make the podium)
3. McLauchlin & Brubaker (great energy, difficulty and potential)

Any of these three could be interchangeable, depending on who messes up the most. It's anybody's gold.

Dance:
1. Davis & White (should have a lock on this with V&M out (sniff...sniff)
2. Pechalat & Bourzat
3. Bobroba & Soloviev

I consider Crone & Poirier to be potential spoilers here. Not many people have had the chance to see them yet, but their technique is really impressive. They have the grace of ice dancers and the power of singles skaters.

This sounds to me very strange.
She maybe was not still in shape especially for jumping (though I think KSM's bad performance was caused but her typical pre-season lack of confidence in jumping) but we didn't hear anything about injuries not even from Caro's closest "resources".
Do you know if they have noticed something like patches, bandage etc?

Some saw her icing her leg when she came off the ice.

If Wester/Barantsev make the podium, looks like I'll have been the only one to call it. ;)

Just sayin'.

And I will have no problem hearing you say "I told you so," since I did question you. They are a great team, so I would enjoy seeing them on the podium. :)

I would love to see Jennifer & Daniil make the podium but I fear they don't have enough international exposure yet to get the scores if the other teams skate well. I'd love to be wrong though! They're a great team. :)

I'm not a fan of making predictions (and I'm normally wrong anyway, LOL) but I do have a few faves that I would love to see make the podium such as Patrick Chan, Ryan Bradley, Caroline Zhang, D&D, M&B, and the entire US dance team (I like all three US teams going to SC this week). If Amanda & Mark can finish in at least fourth place, I'd be totally thrilled for them. The last time they went to Skate Canada, they finished dead last so I really hope they can have a good competition this week. :agree:

HOPING for
1.zhang/czisny
2.czisny/zhang
3.suguri

expecting and UNHAPPY about
1.costner
2.zhang
3.rochette

I'd also like to see Bebe do well, but i'm pushing for a suguri comeback. i <3 her elegence.
i think the judges will give it to costner if she has few mistakes, and i think rochette will pull a high energy skate out of nowhere and end up on the podium.
Alissa's placement all depends on whether she can keep it together because if she can? she's a flawless skater.

I'm finally back. It's been too loooooong!

If Joannie can skate like she's able to, then the gold is hers. The same goes for Carolina. As for Caroline. I'm on the fence about her. So with that being said...

1. Joannie/Carolina
2. Joannie/Carolina
3. Fumie (possibly Caroline)

As for the pairs...M&B seem to be moving up quite fast and if D&D don't put on the pressure they're gonna lose the gold medal.

1. M&B/D&D
2. M&B/D&D
3. K&S

Dance I honestly don't care about. None of the teams really "tickle my fancy"!

The men. This should be equally interesting as the ladies and pairs. Evan is gonna steal the show. That's a given. As for the other spots I'm not really sure. I know Patrick is capable of winning as high as 2nd, but he has to do a good job.

1. Evan
2. Patrick/Yannick
3. Patrick/Yannick

That's my 2 cents worth. It'll be interesting to see what comes of it all!

Ladies:

1. Rochette
2. Czisny ( I have this feeling...)
3. Kostner (I know she will be sloppy, it'll come down to here PCS for placement)
4. Zhang
5. Suguri (I want a Suguri comeback as well, but this is a safe placement)
6. Vahamma (Her performance at Finlandi worries me, she could be lower)
7. Pahneuf
8. Liang (Top 5 is attainable... but she will have a fall or two for sure...)
9. Takeda (She can easily trade places with Suguri....that's how close)
10. Glebova (Wouldn't surprise me if she was high as 4th after the Short, her specialty)
11. McCorkell
12. Samson

In retrospect, the ladies field is quite well-rounded from top to bottom. Should be exciting.

I say:
Kostner
Rochette
Zhang

The men's event is rather shallow here, so i think

Evan
Sergei
no idea

Pairs:
McLaughlin/ Brubaker (that would be amazing )
a VERY close second Yuko KAWAGUCHI / Alexander SMIRNOV
Dube/Davidson

Dance:
(i can't wait to see Davis and White!)
again a shallow field... I say a couple i never heard of wins it.

Because it's very hard to see the Canadian Champion who made GPF and won TEB last year to finish on the podium in this group :chorus:

 For some reason, that Chan-less prediction reminded me of this joke from The Simpsons: "Marge, anyone could miss Canada. All tucked away down there..."

My prediction (or should I say wishful thinking ;)) for the men:

1. Patrick Chan
2. Yannick Ponsero
3. Shawn Sawyer

Glad you agree. Oh, what I can say. I'm a total sucker for voidy artists!

EDIT: Now that I've watched the SPs, I'll have to tweak my list a little. ;)

1. Patrick Chan
2. Yannick Ponsero
3. Ryan Bradley

Shawn Sawyer will make the Top 5 (or so I hope!).
