Well, not much info besides the fact that she's got a new house, a tan, and more book signings. Can you say "blah" any more blatantly? :indiff:

When she reveals her Programs for the new season, then there might actually be something to talk about.

P.S. Not trying to condemn her or anything for revealing such info, it's great for the fans, but nothing groundbreaking or anything. I notice (and this might be good or bad depending on how you see it) that her site really is more of a resource on her person and her activities rather than her skating. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the way I see it.

I think she is very smart that she did not detail how she trains for the 2006. I guess Sasha and her coach have the plan about how to get her ready. Her journal let us feel that they are on target. She has some off ice training that she should be responsible to finish before they start the intensive on ice training. There is no need for Sasha to let her competitors know how she does the training. It's better to keep it secreat. At L.A. area. there are so many rinks, but all the top ladies prefer to have their own places to train.

Yes, at that age, the tan is vital! It's a sign of senility and warped prorities to worry about things like cancer and skin damage, let alone figure skating! :sheesh: You can ask both my daughters. They were born with a lovely "tan" and they still agonize over whether it's enough. :banging:

That is a good thing. It would get her focused for the upcoming Olympic Season. A lot is at stake this time around.

At the same time, there is no need for her to tell us that she has a new house, etc. (it's irrelevant) but she does anyway.

The only thing that she "needs" to reveal to the fans is the new Programs for next season. The top skaters also tend to wait until close to the start of the new season to do that. There's still a couple of months left on that front.

You see it exactly right. This section of the site is called "Sasha's journal," not "Sasha's practices reports." There's a bit information on everything, only one mentioning on "working on a tan," which meant to be a joke, and I won't call buying a new house and participating in a skating show "blah,", but that's MPHO.

There are two full paragrahps about her doing off ice training, and working on other aspects of preparaions to the season with Nicks -- it's all skating related.

I agree with Registered. This is a fun little "blog" where Sasha fans can read about their favorite gal.

On the serious side, I think this kind of interaction with fans is a good thing for figure skating generally. The majority audience for the sport is young teens and families. Catering to the fan base helps the whole sport, IMHO.

It's blah in terms of the skating part (and, personally, blah as a whole!). They may be fun tidbits for her fans to gobble up, but ultimately it has absolutely nothing to do with what she's planning to do next season.

But Red Dog, that's why non-fans don't go there. It's a fan site. Sasha's fans do care about stuff like that

Agreed.

I check her fan forum from time to time for news updates and often times I'll see threads like "She hasn't written in 2 weeks!" "Oh no! I hope everything is alright!"  It's quite funny.

I know. I'm aware of that. I'm just saying what I think.

ETA: I wouldn't exactly call an official site a "fan site" (although obviously it would be a place where fans might go to check on updates) but this is just my opinion. The only thing that would make it seem so, I suppose, is the journal section of the website. I've nothing against her giving these tidbits, but personally since her entry was posted on this forum I was expecting something of more substance (since this is not a Sasha forum and I doubt a lot of people here care about her tan or her house, as you can tell by some of the responses  ).

Nya -- nya, someone hijacked Dog's privileges of notifying this forum on Sasha's journal updates. Not to worry, RD, next time you'll beat'em to it, an uberfan, as you are.

Awe...come on Red Dog. If you see an obvious link to a teen fan site that you're not interested in, why read it? Why take the time to comment about it? I think you're more of a "fan" than you claim to be. ;)

On a separate note, how / why did you choose your handle of "Red Dog?" As a dog person myself, inquiring minds want to know. BTW, I totally enjoy your posts.

Actually, FYI I knew of the entry BEFORE it was posted here. I just never bothered to read it until now.

I'll tell you this: I can't stand men's skating, pairs skating or ice dance. That leaves the ladies behind. And out of those I usually will only talk about the top Senior Ladies as I have limited (or none) interest in the up-and-comers. Not to mention I'm just one who used to be a little tired of Kwan winning everything. I didn't like anyone in particular. And of course, her crazy, rabid fans had to jump to conclusions and think I'm one of those little teenybopper Sasha fans. But what is one to do? I fired my guns and I'm sticking to them. Too bad. You guys just keep believing whatever you want.

I still post here, but in reality I really don't like figure skating nearly as much as I once did (after SLC). But I enjoy sizing up the competition for the upcoming Olympics, and I think they'll be a blast (the only one- the summer games IMO are much more exciting). But after that- I think I'm outta here, personally. No reason to stay here when I really don't like any of the skaters to start with.

ETA: Actually I've been looking and it seems like most of the time "Skatefan4life" or someone else starts a thread on SC's journal. How many have I started? I think maybe around 3 or 4 (and mostly in the past, too). How many has everyone else started? More than I can count. Now here's the shocker question (are you all ready? Drum roll please): why am I getting all the credit- credit I don't deserve? I think you all are just picking on me, as usual. I'm the easy target here, of course. Keep firing, but don't act all surprised if I fire back.

I was hoping to get some news on Cohen's programs from her entry. (And while I'm at it, any news on any other programs that I may have missed?) Instead, I see how she's got a new house, "improved her tan", etc. I could care less!

ETA again: Why would one be a fan of a skater and not say so? If I was a fan you bet I would have said so. In that thread where that poster was complaining about everyone "hating" Cohen (and I didn't agree- if that doesn't say I'm not a fan of hers I don't know what does) many came out and said they enjoyed her skating. That's fine by me. I can't even say that- if I did I'd by lying big time. I think both she and Kwan are pretty boring at this point. See how much I enjoy ice skating?

On a separate note, how / why did you choose your handle of "Red Dog?" As a dog person myself, inquiring minds want to know. BTW, I totally enjoy your posts.

This may come as a shock to many, but I'm actually NOT a dog person! On the contrary, I'm not much of an animal person at all.

(Thanks for the compliment, by the way.)

So how did I think of my username? To be quite honest, I don't really know myself- I think it was inspired by that drink  which happens to be picture (b) in MM's post. It was quite a random choice of mine, actually. As far as my personality it means basically nothing.

Being able to buy a house is a huge milestone for a 20 years old young lady. How many 20 years old girls out there have the financial ability to do so? In skating world for the past 10 years, probably only Michelle Kwan could afford and indeed purchased her home when she was 20. Michelle recently has her new rink grand opening, I guess Sasha also wants to show the skating community that she is also financially well established. A little competition on and off the ice, it's healthy though.

If you read most of the Sasha's journals and her book, you'll find she is a very relaxed about every thing. Even the entries before she left TT or Robin, you wouldn't see much details about how her skating went to the way she did not like. There is no need for her to get the lfe too narrow, and just think about skating every day. As for new music, how many Olympic contenders already decided and released the info? It's really up to themselves about when to let the music decision announced.

MM- that picture you had there. I cropped it and I'm interested in making a custom avatar out of that image. But I can't figure out how to add it- I see only the standard avatars. So can you use only those avatars, or can you use your own as well?

Oh, OK that explains it all: you can't stand ALL kind of skating, except for SOME lady's skating, you're not interested in aspects of personal lives of skaters, but you're a regular at the skating site to give an earful of some foolish snarks to fellow posters. (Well, at least Kwan's no longer winning it all, which must make life more bearable to you) You're just oozing with sophistication, RD, not sounding like a teenybopper, but rather like someone who had too much of a drink, that "inspired" your user name. Get real, Red Dog, as nonsensical as you are, you've got no leg to stand to teach anyone how to maintain an on-line journal, or to maintain a fan site.
