Here's a link to an IOC website on the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics. If you scroll down, there's a small photo of Katarina Witt, the gold medalist from East Germany. Click on it to see a larger shot of her - it's a shot from her long program. She wore a gorgeous costume, and she skated to selections from "Gershwin".

The press referred to Katarina as "The East German Brooke Shields" (definite look alike), and described her as "18 and beautiful, the belle of Karl Marx-Stadt." A photo caption of Witt wearing her gold medal and waving to the crowd stated that she was a "figure of beauty and vitality" - and this was from the American press.
