1956 Olympics - Tenley Albright, Women's Champion
Here's a link to the ICO write-up with photos of Tenley Albright, the first American woman to win the Olympic gold medal in figure skating. Tenley won her gold at the 1956 games, with teammate Carol Heiss finishing second. Albright was a graceful skater with innovative moves, steps, and good, strong jumps. After the Olympics, she graduated from medical school and has been a successful surgeon in the Boston area.
She was a wonderful champion!
IMHO,Tenley brought class to figure skating!! Something Ms Flemming would capitalize on later. Now there is an essential need for every skater to have good line throughout the program.
I agree 100 percent! Tenley was a classical skater, with gorgeous line and elegance. And Peggy Fleming, indeed, was another beautiful, classical figure skater.
