Supersize Me: Had to watch it for class, and while it wasn't as stupid as I anticipated it would be, it still seems a bit...well, duh. Though I was unexpectedly sympathetic to Spurlock because frankly death from liver shutdown would probably be better than living with that typically self-righteous vegan girlfriend. Could drive anyone to OD on Big Macs. (No, I have nothing against vegans, except that they're a pain for chefs to deal with, but some aren't just proud of being vegan, they're smug about it.)

Amelie: SO good! If a bit odd/surreal.

Topsy Turvy: I love this movie and must steal it back from my brother at some point.

I am DYING to see "East Side Story", which is a documentary made about 10 years ago about movie musicals that were made in Eastern Europe during the Soviet years. Apparently there is footage from these movies that features farm women singing odes to their farm equipment, and all sorts of surreal socialist propoganda done thru musical production numbers. Fortunately, netflix has this movie and I should be receiving it sometime soon, as it's on my list.

I saw the movie Elephant awhile back and I'd have to say that the ending is one of the most disturbing endings to any movie I've ever seen. It's a brilliant film, but very hard to sit through.

I saw Freaks years ago on a double bill with Eraserhead at the Vista theatre in Hollywood. It was a rather depressing evening. It's an interesting period piece, but like most films of a serious nature from the early 30s, the characterizations are so hamfisted that it's hard to take seriously. Everyone is either a good guy or a bad guy, with no sense of nuanced human behaviour. This is the main reason that the only Hayes code era films that I really enjoy are comedies and musicals, where the unreality of the situations makes alot more sense within the context of the format.

Yes, I rented it at a neighbourhood video store. I've also seen it at chains like Blockbuster. It shouldn't be too hard to find. Good luck and brace yourself for some disturbing imagery.

Amelie is a little overrated, but it's still good.
The Magdalene Sisters was powerful. I'd recommend it.

I've seen it and have had a pathological fear of nuns ever since.

I really loved FRIDA, it was a great film, about a great woman.

a film called CRASH, which is just out on DVD is the best I've seen this year, everyone should see this film.

Most department stores carry Amelie and Frida in there DVD section.

I for one loved "Amelie." Audery Tatou got her BIG start in this movie. She is so cute and adorable in this film. It is a beautifully filmed fantasy/love story to watch.

I thought that it was really overrated. It started out strong but then it went all Hollywood, having to account for everything that had happened. While the film raises valid points it paints the world in too many broad strokes. I found it rather pretentious.
