The first of the Regional Championships across the U.S. and the first qualifying competition on the road to 2006 U.S. Nationals has begun in Scottsdale, Arizona and runs through Sunday (Southwest Pacifics). Here's the link to USFS' preview article for the dates/locations of the other 8 Regionals:

Where should results, info, reports, etc. from these Regionals be posted on Golden Skate (which forum)?

Greetings, I'm looking for Sr. short results. Was happy just to find you. Couldn't find the Sr. skating orders all day. Is anyone in Phoenix? What happened tonight? Who is competing this year? . Any info is appreciated. Damon

I'm not sure if the Regional and Sectionals are listed in the Other Events Section. However one could post there with the results and others could put in comments if they wish.

I, for one, am quite interested in familiarizing myself with the names and results because I will see the best of them at Nationals. I think many posters would be interested in the Mens division in the midwestern sectional. Lots of skaters they know.

Little Caroline Zhange already moved up to junior. She's only 12. She did pretty good so far, qualifing round 1st, short program 2nd. I guess Caroline will be a strong contender for 2010?

They're STILL using the oridinals system???
It's understandable. After all, it'd be pretty expensive to install the computers and find people trained as technical specialists for a regional event. Maybe if there was some way for it to work on paper...

6.0 is being used at all 9 Regionals (USFS is still training judges in the new system); the new judging system will be used at the 3 Sectionals in November as well as 2006 US Nationals.

Here's the link to the reports/notes for Southwest Pacific Regionals this weekend that I've compiled so far on FSU (Dennis Phan made a good comeback in the free skate last night but Amber Corwin had a rough outing and Danielle Kahle won the SWP regional senior ladies' title):

Perhaps the "National Championships" forum here can be used for any news/info/results from the upcoming U.S. Regionals/Sectionals since they are qualifying competitions for Nationals?

It sounds as if they are using the new "fill up" rule (not sure if that is the correct term) for regionals this year-is that correct?

It also sounds as if regions with a lot of entries, will be able to send 5 or possibly even 6 skaters to Junior Nationals, instead of the previously allowed 4.
Will smaller regions have to send less than 4 skaters to junior nationals then? Or will 4 be the minimum number of skaters sent to JN?

Does this new plan effect the juvenille & intermediate boys as well?

Thanks for any answers.

The "fill-up" rule still applies to Regionals and/or Sectionals in which there are fewer than 4 skaters/teams. The "percentage" rule is new this season and all 9 Regionals will still send at least 4 skaters/teams to Intermediate/Juvenile Nationals ("Junior Championships" is its new name). This new rule is published in the 2005-06 USFS rulebook and was passed at the Govening Council meeting in May with the following wording:

"... amend to permit the number of skaters in the juvenile and intermediate free skate, pairs and dance events at each regional championship to enter the comparable event at the U.S. Junior Championship based on a percentage of the total number of entries, retaining a minimum of four from each region.

Divide the number of entries per region by the total number of entries from all (9) regions; then take that number and multiply by the desired numbers at Junior Nationals (36)."

Based on the percentage rule, the top 5 Intermediate Girls from SWP Regionals have advanced to the Junior Championships in early December. I believe the 5th place Juvenile Boy will also advance to JC, but I'm not sure whether it's because of the "fill-up" rule (if there are less than 4 Juvenile Boys entered at Cetnral Pacific and/or Northwest Pacific Regionals) or the new percentage rule.

Good luck to all who compete at Regionals and Sectionals this year! These are all wonderful, talented skaters, and just competing in these competitions is a testatment to their dedication and long hours/years of practice.

Go for it!!

That's what Nova Scotia Sectionals is doing up here. Well we bought one set of the computers that will be transported to all the various competitions. (We don't have very many because we are such a small area) And the judges write it down as the skaters are skating and then quickly insert it into the computers after the skater is finished. It is perfect for the skater because it gives you 3-5 minutes on the ice before you skate to get into the ice and get comfortable.

What a great message. I hope that all of the competitors have an enjoyable time at their respected regionals, regardless of where they end up in the standings.

Are there any Goldenskaters who are planning on skating at regionals?
