Oh, not so, Millie. After the short program, I thought so, too. But the free skate -- 125 points -- that is something the other girls can shoot at. Sasha got 124.61 at Worlds, for instance.

Seems like she was a tad bit tired in the free skate. I hope she don't wear herself out.

Yea Sasha got a 122 at Campbells. Looking at just the technical scores Irina had a 62.30. Sasha had a 61.80. That is pretty close. Sasha will fix the sequence and get another 5 pts for the last salcow and I have no doubts will delay that sequence a few more seconds to get it over the 2 min. mark. Irina will add a 3/3 so it will still be close. Looking at the non jump elements. Irina's got 3 level 4's, a level 3, and a level 1. Sasha's got 2 level 4's and 3 level 3's. I'm sure Irina will make that step sequence harder and get it to at least a 3. Sasha maybe able to get a few of those 3's to 4's.

We haven't seen Sasha's SP yet even though it is last years. It was pretty close to Irina's in points last year so I'd guess it will be again.

I'm sure everybody is happy Mao isn't olympic elgible. She is skating with no pressure at all though.

Overall Irina won by 20 pts. That is impressive. If she keeps this up she's going to win the gold in Turino.

I am sorry but I dont think you can read anything into the Campbells scoring. It is clear that all the skaters received scores higher there than they would elsewhere. For example Rochette scored only 2 points lower than she did for her Skate Canada free skate, but her Skate Canada free skate was MUCH MUCH better than her Campbells skate. Meissner would need her triple axel to have any hope of scoring a 109 as she did at Campbells, a jump she did not do at Campbells. Sasha's 122 is very believable, however breaking down her scores she received very positive GOE for her jumps; Sasha will not be getting her scores from high GOE of jumps, but from everything else, her jumps are not that technicaly high quality, and watching her performance were not in Campbell's either, so she received that 122 with higher GOE of jumps than she will get elsewhere. I believe Irina's 125 in reality is much higher than Sasha's Campbell's 122.

Nothing surprising about all this (Irina will probably get 9s and 10s even if she falls throughout her program). So predictable. Torino's already a done deal. *Yawn.*

Irina may have deserved 8s in the SP, but not in the FS, because she had a few flubs. I feel she will be held up in PCS even if she does not skate well at Torino, and the 8s may even become 9s.

Did you see her free skate, what were her mistakes?

Sounds like Irina won convincingly. It seems like Mao did not bring her A game, she landed triple axels in practice, and in her sleep, but scratched out of the 3a under pressure. Mao did not land any 3/3 either. She still mangaed a second overall.

I think her post game interview was so cute. She thought she did not skate with strength, and joked about keeping her triple axel at TEB

Mao said she was very nervous (it was her first Senior competition, after all). I think she may have been intimidated a bit by competing against the reigning World Champion.

OTOH, I think Shizuka might be a bit intimidated by skating against Mao (and she gets to do it again at TEB). They both have Sasha to contend with at TEB.

Well, I think that Mao was nervous being its her first senior Grand Prix event and that she was going up against 2 world champions.

I was suprised to see her do so well beating Shizuka Arakawa in the process but I guess it was suspected considering she will probably be the "one" come 2010
