2003 world uneven bars bronze medalist Beth Tweddle will lead the six-gymnast British contingent for the upcoming World Championships, taking place Nov. 21-27 in Melbourne.

Tweddle is the only member of the British women's team to have competed in a World Championships before. The other Melbourne squad members are Rhian Pugh, the 2004 European junior champion on uneven bars; Shavahn Church, a former U.S. junior team member with dual citizenship; and Imogen Cairns, a double event finalist at the 2004 European Junior Championships.

The British men's team includes Ross Brewer, who placed 16th all-around at the 2005 European Championships; and Louis Smith, the 2004 European junior champion on pommel horse.

London will play host to both the 2009 World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games.

"British Gymnastics have marked an incredible progress over the last few years and we hope that our competitors will prove this in Melbourne," said Brian Stocks, president of British Gymnastics. "Winning the bids to host the 2009 World Championships and the 2012 Games in London has given a huge boost to our morales and ambitions, and Melbourne will be the stage for the new Olympic cycle to make them known to the rest of the world."

Stocks is head of the British delegation, which will leave for Australia on Sunday, Nov. 13.
