Mikitty, as the 18-year-old Turin Olympics hope is widely known in her homeland, is the only female skater to have pulled off a quadruple axel in competition. But now, she's being weighed down by a hefty problem.

She hasn't done the jump for so long and now skating world insiders are whispering that it's because she's picked up too much lard to lift off.

I didn't know she had performed a quad axel! When I first read this, I thought it was The Onion, but my gosh...

 It's all those deep fried octapus balls.

After you read this story, you can scroll down to the other articles on this site:

"Successful spurt leaves Hard Gay with limp bottom line"

"Cram schoolteacher's "Lolita complex" takes deadly twist"

"Suspected sister slasher's sordid past"

"Porn starlets move on to inspiring second careers"

and the ever popular,

"Butts beat boobs in 2006" :agree:

I don't think the writers know what they are talking about. I think they meant the quad sal. I am sure if anybody even attempted a quad axel, it would be all over the medai by now. I don't even think that guys have attempted it. I even reall some (I think it was Plyushenko) talking way back about a quint loop or something like that, but never a quad axel (by the way - he just talked about it. He didn't say that he was training that element).

As far as weight, that just shows the enourmous pressure Japaneese athletes are facing. This is more along the lines of National Enquier or other tabloids. But none of the athletes in US would ever have their weight discussed in a tabloid!

Has Mikki really gained any weight? She looks fabulous to me.

Miki looks no different now than she did when she was doing the quad SALCHOW, not axel. The article is ridiculous. She's not doing quads because she doesn't have to, and because she risks injury doing them.

This is a horrible article! I felt bad for every young person when I read this, because Miki Ando looks healthy. This article proclaiming Ando putting on so much lard she can't do the jumps anymore is that last thing any young person - including athletes - should not be subjected to! What they didn't mention, of course, is how much she's grown in height and how with height comes weight. Of course, when a little girl reads this article, she's not going to be thinking about this.

Poor Miki, not a very nice article about her. Just imagine if this article was written about some other popular skater, all -ell would break loose.

If it was written in Japanese version and/or you read in Japanese board, you probably would see all-ell.

I know the titles sounded ludicrious, but after I read some of those articles, I googled the names of the people they were about, and all the articles were legitimate. The Lolita Complex one scared me. He was only 23 when he began molesting 12 year olds!

Does anyone know if this type of journalism is typical in Japan? I think the British tabs are much more blunt than the American tabs. Just wondering if it's a cultural thing, especially since Miki does not have the stereotypical Asian physique.
