What if the Olympic technical specialist actually did his/her job and called ....

Cohen's "lutz" a flip?
Arakawa's "flip" a lutz?

(I think that of all the top women these two skaters have the most extreme flutz/lip.)


We all know that the judging gets very picky at the Olympics. Does anyone else think that there's a chance that it could get so picky (and accurate) that the caller would call the jumps as the skaters actually do them?

Could this really happen?! Could the Zayek rule "out" all the flutzers and lippers at a very unfortunate moment? Would this be fair? correct? evil? just another way to make sure that Slutskaya gets the gold?

I don't think that the technical specialist calls a flutz or a lip a completely new jump. I think the judges give it a varying degree of negative GOE depending on how bad it is. At least, that's what the rulebook says.

I think that is going to change when they get around to tweaking the CoP. A flutz is a flip is a flip is a flip, and the skater beware if the Zayak rule don't get ya.

I don't want to hear about attempts.

If they did their job it would ruin their reputations. Do you want to change the corrupt judging image. Lord forbid. Just being sarcastic. The sport is in crisis and I dont think it will change until Speedy is gone and the powers that be insist the judging gets cleaned up. The public isnt stupid so the ratings continue to drop. Will they ever learn Insanity is when you do the same thing over and over and expect different results.

Unfortunately, it is the "powers that be" in figure skating that benefit from a system in which the judges are in the pockets of the national federations, each with it's own agenda. This problem is endemic -- it will never be cleaned up, Speedy or no Speedy. It was even worse under Speedy's predecessor.

Doesnt sound very promising does it. However another scandel at Olys might do them in and Im not too sure thaqts not what will happen. I just want to see Michelle skate and thats the end for me.

The worst move was hiding the identities of the judges. Now they are free to wheel and deal and do whatever they please. I am sure deals have already been made and some of the outcomes are pre-decided.
