Tribute to Alexei Yagudin---Passion for Skating

I have interest in watching competitive skating. It's a passion. I'm not sure if you have as much interest in skating as you do in one skater. There are posts I read where the writer is clearly interested in one skater as his/her passion. Nothing wrong with that, but it does prove my point that passion is in the mind of the beholder.

I have no passion for exhibition skating, unfortunately, but I do recognize interesting choreography. I have passion for my interest in other performing arts than in figure skating.

Since you brought it up, my passion for figure skating (competitive and exhibition) is well over thirty years old. I used Alexei as an example because that's who the subject of the thread is and I won't deny that over the years, he has caught my attention more than any other skater thus far. My interest is by no means limited to one skater or event or expression of the sport nor is figure skating the only passion I have, but this is a skating board, so here...I discuss skating, and in this thread titled, "Tribute to Alexei Yagudin---Passion for Skating," I discuss Alexei.

What I find amazing is that Yagudin still had some his most passionate and memorable performances in his so-called *meltdown* season 2000/2001, just remember "Gladiator" at Skate Canada 2000, "Gladiator" at Euros 2001 and "Revolution Etude" at Worlds 2001. It's kinda ironic/sad though he never won anything "big" with his probably greatest LP, "Gladiator". I wonder how many people will remind Plushenko's programs of this particular season?

totally agree with you...i will never forget his SP in worlds 2001, revolution etude! it was a fantastic skate with so much passion!!!! i also found Gladiator great, it was one of his best performances for me....he lost all competitions in 2001 with these two great programms it's interesting!

i started to watch figure skating after i saw alexei in 1998, i was really a big fan of him and i also liked to watch the competition between him and plushenko, so plush also means much to me because i believe that alexei was so good and ambitious because of plushenko's great technical abilities, which forced alexei to work harder and harder after his 2001 loses. so i agree with the ones who think that 1998-2002 was the best times in mens event.
