I wonder if CBC will show any of it live. They seem just a tad preoccupied with hockey these days, [I wonder why; it's not like anybody in our country likes hockey ] so they may not cut away from that for dance. We'll see! Maybe!

The non-N.Amercians with no Afro background in their culture will be dancing to their native folk dances and give the Latin Dances an upbeat performance with tricks one would never dream of doing in native Cuban dances. Not their fault, it was too much Carmen Miranda in the movies to ape.

Remember, the beat is down (like a Tango) not up (like a waltz)

Joe so that's the difference. Very interesting, can you elaborate?

I have CBC on and they just mentioned that they're going to be going to figure skating.

The Frau is in, listening to Eurosport!

Oooo...sounds like the Bulgarians had a spill or a trip-up on a spin.

"Lots of nerves out here," say Chris & Simon of Eurosport.

Standings before the final group of five couples: Bulgarians into 3rd...lots of 'boos' from audience!

Oh, Bulgarians! :( Into 3rd with 93.50 points. I expected a little more.

I'm surprised D/V are so far back. :(

The crowd didn't agree with the scores for Denkova/Staviski?

Probably upset that the component scores are so low. Technically, there's no argument. They had a sloppy problem with a spin.

Me too. I hope that they aren't being 'set up' so that their great freeskate (as in Europeans) not matter a whit.

Yeah, it seems like that will be the case. And it upsets me because their FD is so so lovely. I was WOWed by them in Europeans.

Good luck to the Canadians and B/A in the final group! I'll be back a little later.

I just read the Eurosport transcript:

D&V FELL during their OD!!!! That's why they were marked relatively low.

Bad luck for the favorites, so far...first D&V, then D&S. Oh crap..... I wish better luck for B&A (although I also love Canadians &, of crs, Russians)!!!

During warm-up...huge applause for the two Italian teams, who happen to have 'drawn' the last group here. One is in 1st place - the other in 10th.

Dubreuil/Lauzon of Canada take the ice!

***fast music***
"Fabulous synchronization in steps..."

***slow rhumba***
"oh yes!" big applause (lift)

"oh dear..." FALL "she is in agony" "so good until last five seconds....hip injury...went down with big thump."

Seems to be a Zhang-style fall...she seems to be able to move legs, walk....

EUROSPORT transcript: Closer inspection: it was her that could not keep the hold! The let go and went smashing into the ice. That thud ends their routine, and Marie-France is in quite some pain. Carried off the ice, she will be a doubt for the next dance tomorrow. The results come in: 27.47 + 28.89 = 54.36 and 91.80 or fourth overall.

That's too bad. Looks like D/V ruined their chances of making the podium? But will they continue with Olympic-eligible skating for a while longer or stop again?
