She only wears it for the slalom I believe (the slowest, least dangerous event). And it came back for the medal ceremony.

She had to wear a helmet in the giant slalom, because it is too long and fast for anyone to choose costume jewelry as headgear. But it reappeared on the medals stand, where Mancuso pulled back the hood of her jacket to reveal the silvery crown just as she was about to receive her gold medal.
"I think my coaches bought it at Wal-Mart,'' she said in an interview after the ceremony. "It was just a joke. We had some gag gifts given at the end of the year. They told me I was the team princess. I'm wearing it for my coaches.''
I think she may have worn it for Picabo, too. Then again, she may not have heard anything about Picabo's comments until after the games.
