    That's true, MM

And if I hadn't been keeping up with skating, I'd have thought it was her, too (probably)...

Oh...did you know that "Shizuka Arakawa" was the 6th most searched query on Google in the US the week of the ladies figure skating? ("Sasha Cohen" was first.)

Why did you think Sasha would make the cover of SI?

The jinx is still on. Who was on the cover of SI before the olympics?
Bode Miller. There were other skiers too but I can't remember which.

    SI and female athletes

From what I understand, SI has a history of short shrifting female athletes.

Figure skating is the most anticipated event of the Games (their words, not mine) and she had the best finish of any of the American skaters. To win Olympic Silver is an accomplishment.

Now I wonder if she would've been on the cover if she won Gold. Were Sarah and Tara?

I don't disagree with the accomplishment part but I would imagine SI would focus on Olympic winners rather than the one that got away.

Now, if Cohen rallied from third or fourth to silver, I think it would be different. But she was in a position to win and "choked" down to 2nd, and a very lucky 2nd at that. So no surprise here.
