So the officials have drawn the Ravensburger Waltz
for the sole compulsory dance at Worlds.

One would think that with only a single compulsory
dance to be skated, the dance which was
performed at the previous major international
competition would be excluded from the draw.

Who really wants to see all the same couples, give
or take a few, do the same dance when other dances
could emphasize yet another aspect of the dancers'
expression and technique?

For that matter, who wants to see all the same couples
again in their awful outfits, bumping and grinding and
twizzling their way down the ice?

I agree with Sonia Bianchetti's remarks about Olympics...
including the dance. :eek:hwell:

add an idea

Scratch that,

I DO want to seen Dubreuil and Lauzon skate. They were
quite elegant and sadly we all missed their free dance.

I don't mind seeing the Ravensburger Waltz again. It was my first time seeing it at the Olympics. In fact, I like the compulsories the best of the three events. I just hope they show it on TV.

other dances

mathman,

i understand...but wouldn't you like to see another waltz, the golden, for instance or
the yankee polka, or the tango romantica?

i agree that the compulsory dances are fun to watch. they were even more
interesting when the couples had to dance more than 2 patterns. they
were a test of true technique and stamina. by varying the dances between
competitions, we could witness the scope of the dancers' capabilities.

PBI (as I normally lurk here, and rarely post)

I for one would love to see the Yankee Polka or Tango Romantica.....such complexe unique dances. The Ravensburger is beautiful, but not nearly as detailed as those other two.

Just my .02 though. :)

At the very least with the Ravensburger Waltz being drawn again, we can look forward to one dance without the garish circus and/or stripclub costumes.

Kaesie, yes, the golden waltz would be great. I'm not so sure about the others -- they sound a little new-fangled for me, LOL. (I...could...have....waltzed all night!)

Eowyn (lovely name :agree: ), thanks for posting.

compulsaries

Don't care which compulsary gets drawn as long as they televise some of it... which they won't. Only at Olys do these get televised. But at least it's a reason to buy a ticket to a live event that includes them. I only ever got to go to one worlds, but I just loved the hours and hours of compulsaries... and since I was the only one in my area of the stands who know anything about them (and I don't know much), I think I influenced others to enjoy them, too.

And, yes, the dresses are better for waltzes than they are for polkas or tangos.

I saw anything but the polka. The dance itself is fine, but it produces the worst dresses, and the worst, most overdone facial expressions. I wish they would bury that one. I do think it's odd they would draw the same dance twice.

CBC doesn't even mention the compulsory dances until they show their pitiful coverage of the OD. Dance always gets shafted by CBC for coverage.

I think the Ravensburger Waltz is one of the most beautiful and watchable of the CD's.

Of course I'm a true icedance freek and love watching any of the CD's including the Yankee Polka. Maybe that might be because in the U.S. the CD's are only televised during the Olympics; I wish the CD's would be televised on a regular basis.

I will say that I was hoping for the Tango Romantica.
