Canadian Idol

I just finished watching the premier episode of Canadian Idol. I know many of you posters to the South will not have the opportunity to see it, unfortunately. The first episode was great! They showed stops in Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg, and have already handed out 49 tickets to Toronto. Most I would say I agreed with... there were a couple of unusual choices, but I thought that they were just colourful enough to make the cut.

The judges are Sass Jordan (Canadian rock artist), Zack Werner (Cdn. equivalent of Simon, but not AS nasty), Farley Flex (music station director.. not afraid to call it like he sees it), and Jake Gold (artist manager, and again brutally honest). They make an interesting panel, and I think so far their choices have been great.

Having never seen the first episodes of American Idol, this is the first time I have seen what these judges are up against. I can't imagine hearing 1000's of voices and having to be responsible to pick "the one". The only thing that is even more unfathomable is these people that actually think they can sing!!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> I can't believe people that love and care about them would actually allow them to put themselves through that. As one young man said when he left the audition "They did find a Simon, don't believe them!"

I am looking so forward to actually being able to vote for this one!

Re: Canadian Idol

Hi,
I'm so glad someone else is watching the show!! It would be great to talk about it every week like we did for AI.
I am very excited to finally get the chance to vote and I can't wait to see the show from my area...Halifax. My mom swears that the winner willl be a Cape Bretoner...we'll see. But it looks like it will be a great show!!!

Re: Canadian Idol

The judges were cool, although Sass Jordan was a bit of a pushover. Overall it was pretty good; I even thought Ben Mulroney was half decent as host.

My fave so far is the guy who sang Superstar. He was incredible. Can't wait for next week in Halifax.

Have not seen the show. When is it on? I would not be surprised if the winner came from Cape Breton or Nova Scotia - a lot of great talent from the Maritimes.

Re: Canadian Idol

Thought I'd bump this back up. This weeks show was simply amazing. For pure talent this show was better than any semifinal show on CI, or AI1 and AI2 for that matter.

That French girl, Audrey de Montigny, is simply amazing. I'm predicting right now that she will win the whole competition. I'm so glad she had the most votes last night. Gary was great as well. I was hoping Sherry would make it through but she has a chance in the wildcard show next week.

Hey, I said that to my Mom right after the show.
This week was a great show. I was a bit disappointed that Sherry didn't make it through...I voted for her 10 times.
but it is so nice to see the Nova Scotian boys in there. Ritchie and Gary rock!! And hopefully Kevin Murdoch will do well in the wildcard show. I've heard stories about his incredible talent that we haven't seen yet...he was sick during all of his auditions.

I like Gary but I'm not into Ritchie. I don't think he would have made the top 10 (neither would Jenny) if the talent had been distributed evenly from week to week. I thought that this group was so good that everyone of them could be in the final 10.

I'm really looking forward to hearing Kevin sing again. It's cool that he's getting another chance.

Have you noticed how much Audrey looks like Josee Chouinard? The resemblence is crazy!

OMG Mike, I thought I was the only one who saw it. It is simply uncanny, the likeness between the two of them.

So far I am relatively impressed with CI. There are a couple things that drive me to distraction about the voting, just as there was with AI. It makes me crazy that there are a zillion teeny boppers out there with nothing better to do than sit on the phone and call 1800 times for the dreamboat of the bunch. I wish that people would vote for the talent and not for the look, but I know that will never happen.

My choices for top 5: Candida, Audrey, Tyler H., Billy, and Sharon (praying for the wildcard).
I know you may be wondering why Billy, and I can't really put my finger on it, other than I think he adds a spice to the group. He is different and not afraid to show it. I just really like him!

Who I think will make top 5: Mikey will go far (teeny bopper vote), Audrey, Candida, Tyler, and I am going to go out there and say Toya.

Will be interesting.

sk8tngcanuck,
I love Sharon too. She made me cry! I think she could really be a true idol just because she is such a positive role model for little girls. Like she said, "This is for all the chubby girls!"

Re: ci

Does anyone know of somebody taping CI for a Round Robin or something? There is no other hope for those of us in the States to see it lol.

Wildcards

Well this week was pretty good. I was glad that Toya got in but I was hoping for Andrew to get in. He did a great job on Me And Mrs. Jones.

Good to see that they let 2 wildcards through instead of just 1.

Hey Mike, I'm from NS too!!! Cool

I missed the results show and only caught about half of Monday's show. What happened? I thought it was weird that there were only 7 singing...what happened to the rest? Where did Sherry go? I liked her. And I agree with you about Andrew. His "Mrs. Jones" was smokin.

Apparently Sherry pulled out of the competition. I'm not sure why but it's to bad since she had real talent.

Ok, fellow Canucks...whatcha think of the show?
Heres my quick thoughts:

Billy: Hes ok when hes not yelling...and he didn't yell tonight.
Toya: same as above
Ritchie: I love my Nova Scotia boys, but tonight was not his night.
Karen-Lee: Good song choice; she shook it up a bit.
Gary: What a cutie
Candida: Power of Love...yuck...not within her vocal range.
Ryan: Something about him...got my vote!
Jenny: Shes so weird...but I like it. The next Ani DeFranco?????
Mikey: go join a boyband
Audrey: She's the one who will win...shes got it all.
Tyler: seems to old for this...and where was his family?

My thoughts on tonight:

1. Audrey: By far the total package. Amazing voice, amazing look.
She should win the whole competition.
2. Ryan: Awesome tonight. I hope he goes far.
3. Billy: Great way to start the show.
4. Tyler: Stage presence personified.
5. Karen-Lee: Agree with Zach. Don't like the song but I like what she did with it.
6. Gary: Surprised he did so well with his song choice. Too bad Audrey picked the same song and was much better.
7. Toya: Great voice, not sure if she has enough attitude.
8. Jenny: She baffles me. Half of the song was brilliant and the other half was too laid back.
9. Candida: Tries too hard to show a range she doesn't have.
10. Mikey: Didn't even know when Zach was insulting him. I agree with Kara: Join a boy band.
11. Ritchie: What was that all about? Just plain bad.

I LOOOOVE RYAN!!!! I thought it was Jim Cuddy singing when he opened his mouth and started singing tonight. He totally did Blue Rodeo justice. I got chills, and I had a tear. He also got my vote tonight.

I agree that with y'all that Audrey will win it. She's got class and grace and one heck of a voice. I just hope she can keep getting the votes to keep her on top.

I saw on the news last night that they held auditions for American Idol 3 in Los Angeles yesterday (and probably today, too). I can't wait! I would love to have been able to see the Canadian version. :(

I really enjoyed the show tonight. There's some great talent in the top 11. I think, as the show progresses, it could get very difficult to decide who should go and who should stay.

Here's how I rated the contestants tonight:

1. Tyler (great stage presense, wonderful voice).
2. Karen (she *killed* Black Velvet; SHE could be the Idol).
3. Gary (his version of "Angel" blew me away)
4. Ryan (possibly the best singer of all & very confident)
5. Audrey (sweet, emotional voice but I'm not on the bandwagon)
6. Billy (great song choice and he was ON tonite. He ROCKS.)
7. Toya (she's terrific; but she held back a bit too much tonite)
8. Mikey (Sass & I agree; not biggest voice but love the emotion)
9. Jenny (just too quirky for me - she's good .. but very quirky)
10. Ritchie (NOT a good nite for him - he really should go)
11. Candida (PITCH problems! She can do better, but OUCH!!)

So, right down to #8 on my list, I was lovin' them. Way to go, Canadian Idol!! This is going to be FUN.
