It was probably just a typo. At least as far as I know.

I think a "flatz" is when you rock back over to the "flat of the blade" off your outside edge before takeoff on a would-be Lutz.

It is not as bad as a "flutz," where you go all the way over on the inside edge, turning the jump into a flip.

It's just one type of a lutz, actually, a jump between flip and lutz. Skaters have different technic, and this is probably one of many ways to say how are they jumping lutz

They may have meant "flats" which would pertain to ones flat on the blade, or they did mean flutz which is a Lutz jump turned into Flip jump. You did not give much info. In what context was the term used?
