I agree to a certain extent, Ptichka....My fav of the 5 is "The Prisoner of Azkaban". The last two are definately darker, but I think because Harry is now older, the storylines can perhaps take on a more mature nature.......they are written a bit differently than the first three....42

I finally finished the book last night, and I have to say this one was actually my favorite of the 5. It seemed to be more thought out (it did take Rowling 3 years to write!), and I really liked how everything was explained towards the end, (Harry and Neville..., ect) I was happy to see more attention turned on Harry getting older and wiser, as opposed to just ignoring the growing up stage.

I finished it yesterday. I had read a very unfavorable review of it, but I liked it a lot better than #4. Azkahban is my favorite, though.

Obviously this one didn't finish on a very final note.
1. Now that Cho is history, is Harry going to notice Hermione? If so, what happens with him and Victor Krumm?
2. Loony heard voices behind the curtain. Is Sirius going to be resurrected either as a person or a ghost?
So far, we are accepting that he is completely dead.
3. And the question I hoped would be answered in this book after Petunia's howler arrived. Are any of the Dursley's ever going to be revealed as people, rather than cartoons?
4. It was hardly news that at some point either Harry kills Voldemort or Voldemort kills Harry.

Doris, I read somewhere that Rowling cried when she wrote of Sirius's death......I have a feeling he's gone for good.....42

Actually Doris...Ron and Hermione are meant to be together.
Hermione likes Ron, but is angry at the fact that Ron hasn't realized her feelings for him. Ron likes Hermione, but doesnt' get Hermione's signals and fears rejection.

I love how JK Rowling is slowly unweaving this relationship, so it can be more than just teenagers with overactive hormones. Notice that Hermione is always craving attention with her constant talking, and Ron is always the one to answer her or give her comeback, and Hermione always comes back for more.
I love this one line from the book:
Ron yawns and says something like " So, Hermione, how did you do on your Rune O.W.L.s?"
Hermione replies "Well, I mistranslated ezhrig. I got it mixed-up with ezhrieg. It means "partnership" not "defense"."
That sums up the way Ron and Hermione are...they keep fighting each other when they should be together.

I don't think we've seen the last of Cho. I dunno...the way JK slowly introduced Cho to us and the way it just ended didn't see right. I doubt Cho and Harry will be romantically involved, but I really do think Cho and Harry will resolved what happened to them in Book 6. Cho obviously still has feelings for him. I think both really need to talk about Cedric desperately. Cho needs closure, and it is evident that she doesn't have control over her emotions. Harry needs to stop trying to ignore the problem that Cedric's death caused, and he needs to come to terms with it (which he hasn't, otherwise he would be able to talk about it with Cho.).

I felt such empathy for Cho. She really thought speaking about Cedric would make her and Harry closer together, but Harry isn't ready to do that yet. That makes her look like an emotional train wreck, and makes Harry look really insensitive to those who can't read his mind like we do. I'm happy that Hermione understands Cho.
All I know is, I hope whoever plays Cho Chang will be able to make her sympathetic to the audience, considering all the ppl who hated her after this book. I think she will be more sympathetic on screen, since we have a sort of seperation from Harry's thoughts.

I really really loved this book.

I think the reason why a lot of ppl don't like this one as much was b/c it wasn't as fun or enjoyable, but it wasn't supposed to be. Book 5 was just to prepare us for the dark tones of the Magical World. Book 6 and 7 will probably go right into it.
I know a lot of ppl thought Sirius's death was weak and too sudden, but I disagree completely. Death isn't always dramatic, many times it's sudden and feels like it doesn't happen. Sirius's death, to me, represents how fast ppl can come and go in a battle, and Harry's reaction to it (looking for answers to see if he can come back) represents that well.

Although I think Prisoner of Azkaban was the most enjoyable to read, I think Order of the Phoenix is the best written one so far. Can't wait for Book 6 and 7.

Show, I read that too-and I also read that the Sopranos were going to have how many seasons?4 and it's now 6. I think Rowling may have left herself an out on Sirius and that he may turn up as a ghost somehow. Or as a picture, like his mother.

I really think Sirius is gone for good. I mean JK already has the main plot thought out till the end.

I doubt he is a ghost b/c Nearly Headless Nick said that you had to leave your soul in this earth to do so, and it seems that you would become a ghost once you die. Sirius looks long gone. And I may be wrong, but the painting wouldn't really be Sirius, it would just be an image that acts and looks like him I would think, and I don't think Sirius has had a potrait of him made.

I think some aspects of Sirius will reappear in some kind of a final battle in the very end. Like Harry's parents springing from Voldermorts' wand at the end of book 4. I think he will reappear once when Harry most needs him; but I don't think he will come back to life in any form.

As for Harry's romantic life -- does anybody else think Loony was introduced for this very purpose?

Ptichka.......I too think that Luna was introduced as some sort of romantic interest for at least one of the boys, (Harry, Ron, or maybe even Neville)........I still think that Harry and Hermione are meant to be paired up......but with Harry's dark future of "kill or be killed", it's anyone's guess.........42

I think that Luna's purpose was to publish Harry's interview. I think I heard JK say Ron will be clueless about his relationship with Hermione until book 6. I think Harry will end up with Ginny, since it's not working out with Cho.

Re: random strings

1. I think Sirius will have some sort of presence in either Book 6 or 7. Not as a ghost, but there was such to-do about the Room of Death, and how both Harry and Luna could hear the voices beyond the curtain -- but why they heard the voices, and what they mean, was never explained at all. Also unexplained/unexplored was Luna's comment at the end that "it's not like we won't see them anymore" (I'm paraphrasing).

2. Likewise I think Luna will continue to be a character on the innermost circle besides Harry/Ron/Hermione, like Neville and Ginny are. Don't see her as a romantic interest for any main character though.

3. I love how Ginny has evolved from the baby sister with a crush to being her own person - in fact, she's the only one of the lot of them that seems to have a successful dating life! (sorry, Hermione - the relationship w/ Viktor just seemed a little too "George Glass" to me in this book).

4. One area that left me less than satisfied in this book is that there was a huge deal made at the beginning about how all 4 houses have to come together in order to beat the coming war....I thought that the increased bickering among everyone was going to end up being a part of that tangent. The D.A. was definitely a show of different houses coming together - but there were NO Slytherins participating in that. I am hoping that this will be a thread that crosses into the next book(s), instead of being dropped.
