I saw my Dr. today and now he is sending me to a specialist who will perform an Endoscopy on me to see inside my stomach. I just read about the procedure and it sounds scary. Anyone here at Golden Skate ever have one? Does it hurt? I am not looking forward to this one.

HELP

I don't remember how many I had but I think 3. It's not as bad as it sounds but definitely not fun. Especially the preparation. I think you have to clean out your other end too but don't remember for sure. I don't think you can eat anything before you go. You will not be able to drive home and will have to be careful when you eat. I think you have to wait a couple of hours or something. They spray your throat with some kind of deadening. Be sure and let them give you all they can as I found out thinking I didn't need it and gagged during the whole thing. They will also give you something for relaxation. I think most people go to sleep but I didn't. Just take all that stuff they will give you. No point in suffering.
They take a tube with a little camera in it and you can watch it on the monitor if you're awake. I never had any pain with it at all. Just make sure you follow all the directions. Just relax and let them have at it. It's not nearly as bad as a colonoscopy. Hope this helps and good luck.

Lad ask for them to give you Versed.... (Midazolam).....you will be awake but won't be aware of what is going on......just like you were put to sleep. The most important thing like Granny said, is afterwards you can't take anything orally for a few hours. The local anesthetic to numb your throat also numbs your gag reflex making it easier for you to choke. Good luck!

Lad, I haven't had this procedure, but I hope that you get it taken care of and that you get through it OK. All my best to you.

I have had this done several times. As Grgranny said, "It's not as bad as it sounds". I was awake through all of them, except the last one I had a few years ago. I experienced no pain and after a few hours I was fine. Just follow what Grgranny suggests and what the hospital staff tell you and it will be over before you know it. Good luck.

yes, I had this and was asleep. I remember talking to the nurse & dr. and telling them I was not sleepy, as I already had an iv in my arm & then, I said give me more medicine & then, I ask when we would be ready. The nurse said, We are finished.

good luck

A friend of mine has to have these on a regular basis. They give you something to numb you up so you should be OK; the whole thing, from what I can gather, SOUNDS more hideous than it actually is. Believe me, if it were hideous, I'd've heard about it from my friend FULL CHAPTER, FULL VERSE, AND IN TRIPLE STEREO....

I've never had one done, but I work at a vet hospital, and we do them on animals all of the time. They never seem to be in oain after the procedure, but do seem to have just a little bit of irritation in the throat. You'll be fine! Its not as bad as it sounds.
