reports?

Does anyone have any reports for UGL regionals? I see Rohene is in first after the short, but his PCS' are all in the mid 5's which doesn't seem too good.

Any highlights would be appreciated!

In the Upper Great Lakes Regional senior men's event on Saturday, Rohene Ward landed 7 clean triples in his free skate (to last year's Tango medley).
Someone at Uppers with access to the official result protocols confirms that his executed jumps (in order) were: 3T+2T, 3A+2T, 3F, 3Lz, 3Lz+2T, 2A, 3S, 3Lo.

In his SP on Friday, I heard that Ward stood up on the quad toe with a hand down (no combo), and landed a triple axel, and a triple lutz ("out of a wicked entry of a forward spiral to a bracket - bracket" says someone who saw it).

Asianathlete.com has Saturday reports from the South Atlantic Regional of the Senior Men's FS, Novice Ladies FS (last 10 skaters), Junior Ladies FS and Senior Ladies FS -- links at: http://asianathlete.com/SportsPage.aspx?ID=45

Great news about Rohene! What a magnetic skater!

And cheers for Musademba. She is very special: strong and elegant. Just a lovely skater.

Sylvia,

Thanks for the details on Rohene; can you comment at all on his PCS scores --- are the mid 5's for the SP and mid 6's for the long his 'normal' range or were there some problems with his skate?

I would suspect that PCS marks are still somewhat fluid and relative (like all marks in the 6.0 system) so that if you have a stand out skater in a less talented group of skaters, they will get high PCS marks to the rest of the group. I noticed that Czisney got lower (for her) PCS marks at EGLs as well but they were high relative to the others she was competing against. There are NO absolutes on that second mark because it is still hard to quantify.

Interesting comments, mskater93, and I tend to agree with you. I believe judges judge to the field they are looking at.

Great coverage.. Question though, I watched Keegan Messing in the Novice mens event at PNW and wondered why isn't he in Jr.'s or Sr.'s? He's got the skills....

Anyone know?

sorry if someone has asked this already... does anyone know if Stephanie Rosenthal is in regionals or sectionals this year? I looked around a bit and didn't see her listed anywhere.

Rosenthal just started her freshman year at Yale and she has decided not to skate this season.

Does Alissa's sister still skate?
I don't think so. I believe that Amber last competed in 2004, when she won the bronze at the U.S. Collegiate championships (Alissa was first).

After that, chronic foot injuries sidelined her singles career. For a time she considered switching to dance, but I never heard that she formed a partnership. There is no biography for her on either the USFS site or the ISU site, and her and Alissa's former web site that they used to have together is now a porn site. (Guess I'll have to remove it from "My Favorites." )

I believe that she remains active in the Detroit Skating Club, however. Last year she won the "Congeniality Trophy" at their awards ceremony.
