Ladd - The split is just about the most basic element in acrobatics. Without the split you are no one in acrobatics. Also check out gymnastics and their use of acrobatics. Not unusual, imo.

Perhaps, but still I think it shows her flexibility. I could not do this without the aid of paramedics! Anyway, this little girl is also a figure skater it turns out and a terrific jumper.

Nicole Bobek would often end exhibition programs with splits on ice. Katherine Healy has incredible flexibility on the ice, which is to be expected from an ex-ballet dancer. But very few skaters can compete against gymnasts, as far as flexibility goes.

Ladd - If you have the right kind of body and happen to be 3-4 years old, you could do those splits instantly. If you wait until you are a teenager, it takes much longer. Really, it's not difficult. But I wouldn't recommend you try after 30.

I could not even do it when I was three or four yrs old - and certainly not as a teenager! I was never that flexible - no wonder my layback spin was so lame. These little girls are born with this ability. Easy for them of course!
