How the HELL does Stephane end up with TES in the 70's when he botched both quads (essentially downgrading 2 quads into triple toe loops) and landed only 4 other clean triples. Is it the 2X World Champ reputation?

Oops, he's way off his total PB (SP + LP) this time. I think he can score in the 280's on an above average day.

Wow, based on the previous skaters, I thought Johnny had this in the bag -- strange night for men's skating???

So - is this early season getting it together or shades of things to come?? (and here I ask about Lambiel too).

ETA PS Thanks so much for the PBP!!!!!!

Thank you so much for the posts!!! Couldn't figure out how Weir's TES was so low without a fall. Now I know. Again Thanks.

Lambiel fell on one quad, stepped out and put his hands down on the other, doubled his triple axel, doubled a triple flip, and would have gotten no credit for the triple toe after the quad. With GOE and PCS he would have lost I think he can score a 170 later in the year if he does every jump perfectly with no errors or struggles at all. His spins look like they probably have higher levels this year as they have the position and edge changes required by the rules so he will take better advantage of his spinning ability in the scores I believe.

I'm amazed by Shawn Sawyer's flexibility every time I saw him. That spiral position could easily top the best in the ladies. A side note, I think he could use a costume with lower neckline.

Despite his issues with the quad and lack of 3A, Lambiel skated beautifully. He was a little less frantic, and as a result, floated across the ice, and he had softer-than-usual knees going into his jumps. His spins were a lot faster than in the SP, and his footwork was spectacular.

I've never seen Four Seasons live, and I'm glad he chose to skate it at SC. It was a joy to see.

Rosaleen, thanks for the wonderful report!!!

Huh, I don´t like Weir´s fs costume or the hair (he should go back to that of previous season)... In the costume the colours (especially the light-blue sash) do not appeal to me and even less the material. The latter should be something heavier looking, in my opinion. On the podium (this link was posted on FSUniverse)

http://cache.gettyimages.com/xc/72409477.jpg?v=1&c=MS_GINS&k=2&d=8AF8AF6A335E5B087A787F83CB7A3E03

his look is too girlish for a male skater, in my opinion.

Also I have watched his fs clip (the only one from men´s event so far), and it is really great music, that gives the opportunity for an excellent choreography. As far as I can tell from the clip, the choreography is fantastic, Anissina has done a perfect job. The programme just needs to be skated well and of course combined with successful jumping. No worry, this was the first performance, Weir will be much better with more mileage.

In view of Hockeyfan's post (she liked Lambiel's performance), I will reserve judgment until I see it.

But just going by this description, I think performances like this are a disaster for the sport of figure skating. We ask people to shell out $100 to see the world champion perform, and we get this?

As for the podium picture
