I don't know how 'tech' my report will be for dance - ite's another one that takes so many words to try and describe what the skaters are doing. I'll try and give the highlights as well as general impressions of each dance.

Hajkova / Vincour CZE- 11th overall coming into free dance - Elvis Medley / black leather & silver trim /
Crowd is clappling right off the start / balance strt line lift is go / a bit of hydro blading which the crowd loves / spin with him upright her in layback switch to sits / music changes to hold me close. . . . / curve lift is nicely done and attractive / O ftwrk is a bit slow (very) and deliberate no real flow / move with her in almost death spiral pos holding onto his skate / music is now trouble with some hip swizzles and into sync twizzles are pretty music in sync / diag steps have better speed and connection to the music / get the feeling that the music is too fast for them and it showing off how slow they are / one-arm rotational life is very good except a bit of a miss (I think) on the exit / crowd loved it though T 37.40 C 27.41 tot 64.81 gr tot 127.70

Some observations — I was there, yay!

First, D/L were truly the class of this field. They made the arena seem small. None of the other teams matched their speed and flow over the ice. Loved this new program, it suits them to a T. The choreography is wonderful. A couple of things they can work on, but one would expect that this early in the season.

Virtue/ Moir were fantastic. They have so much star quality, especially impressive for a team so recently out of juniors. They didn't look at all out of place in the seniors ranks. Their program is gorgeous. Couldn't look away. Some of the best twizzles in the competition. Slowed down a bit on one of their footwork sections, but clearly this is a team with a huge future.

Faella and Scali - this was a fun dance, but the music choice puntuated by some, admittedly impressive, highlights seemed more like an exhibition piece than their exhibition piece did. They skated it very well and the crowd loved it. However, I wonder about them possibly needing something more sophisticated to move them up the ladder.

Lefebrve and Markov were a bit of a letdown. Their freedance plodded along in its overwrought emotion, if that makes sense. They are extremely dramatic, but they clearly need to do some work on the basics. Their speed is noticeably not anywhere near the top teams.

Edited to add that Anastasia Mikahilova has star quality, mark my words.

I'm not so sure. I think Sergeev is more technically accomplished than Kostomarov was at his age, and has more energy and flair. One of the reasons Zhulin did "Pink Panther" was to bring Kostomarov to the forefront, and that was late in Kostomarov's competitive career. I don't think Sergeev needs encouragement. He needs to develop at a normal rate.

Mikhailova has the potential to out-Navka Navka. Which means Sergeev doesn't have to be as good as Staviyski or Sakhnovski, for example. Plus, with Platonova/Maximishin taking the early lead, they have room to develop without the same pressure.

Interesting thoughts re the Russian couple, and Rain, many thanks for your review too, :agree: two couples I've seen for the first time [via dodgy streaming but they still made a great impression] were firstly Davis & White, fabulous OD, and Virtue & Moir, technique and star quality. And both couples still so young, but very exciting.
