    Men's LP Results - SPOILER

I can't do GPF math - where does this leave Johnny???
(Note to mods: we need a Nail-biting smilie!)

ETA: We also need EEK or SHRIEK. It's one thing to get the Silver... it's another to lose by 40 points! It looks like skating has a new king.

I'm not sure where this leaves everyone overall in the GP, but what a bizarre SP and LP combination. Movement all over the board, with the exception of Joubert who looks as if he was in a class by himself in this event. The math that makes Klimkin third, for example, seems crazy if you look at the placements (of course point total is what matters, but still kind of funny that a fourth and sixth were enough to give him the bronze.

    On the bubble.

Joubert and Lysacek are in, Oda and Lambiel almost surely are in.

Johnny is now tied with Preubert, both with a second and a third. But Preabert is way ahead on the tie-breaker with 424 points to Weir's 394.

Johnny's only chance is if Takahashi fininshes third in NHK and also gets a very low score.

why did Johnny score so low without any (apparent) deductions? did he pop/miss some jumps/elements?

I wouldn't say he is the new king. He only beat oda's total by six points.

Good question. To put Johnny's performance (121.18 points) in perspective, Miki Ando got 125.85 in her LP at Skate America.

But Johnny did beat Rochette's 118 at Skate Canada, Meissner's 118 at Skate America and Kim's 119 in Paris.

Johnny's technical score was ninth in this contest, with only Sandhu and Mabee worse.

Only Plushenko has ever scored higher than Brian's 237.83.

Well I see Klimkin as one skater that actually can make this kind of jump (both ways too).Must add, I do like his skating.

I don't do this by Stats but by old fashioned Arithmetic.

    Definitely in the Finals

    Joubert (30), Lysacek (28), Preaubert (24 - higher scores than) Johnny (24)

    Still to Skate

    Oda (15 so far) Needs a 4th place to tie with Alban and Johnny}

Lambiel (15 so far) Needs a 4th place to tie with Alban and Johnny)

Takahashi (13 so far) Needs a 3rd place to be in the mix.

    For your perusal

At their best they will finish 1,2,3.

If Takahashi wins he will tie with Lysacek; If he silver medals he will be ahead of Alban and Johnny. If he gets 3rd, he will be tied with Alban and Johnny. Less than bronze, he's out.

If Lambiel wins, well, you got it. A silver will put him with Lysacek. A bronze will put him with a definite place in the finals. 4th place he ties with Alban and Johnny. Less than 4th, he's out.

If Oda wins, well, you got it. And the same as per Lambiel above.

I think much depends on the trip from Geneva to Nagano will have a bearing.

    How about this?

Kevin van der Perren wins NHK, followed by Takahashi, Lambiel and Oda.

These four plus Joubert and Lysacek are in, Preaubert is out.

Yeah that is arithmatically correct. And if Preaubert is out so is Johnny. Hooray for Kevin the GPF champ. Well, not exactly. He will not get gold.

If one believes that all judges are equal then the total scores in the respective results are correct.

Like what Mathman said, only Joubert and Lysacek are definitely in the final. Lambiel and Oda are highly likely in. Takahashi, Preaubert, Weir and KVDP (a remote possibility) are probably vying for the last two spots.
