U.S. Figure Skating signs online media developement deal with MLB Advanced Media...

U.S. Figure Skating, and MLB Advanced Media, LP (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball, announced today a multi-year venture to develop and utilize the interactive media properties of U.S. Figure Skating. MLBAM will be responsible for developing, managing, operating and maintaining the exclusive, official website and interactive media properties of what will be known and operated as 'Ice Network', the newly formed wholly-owned subsidiary of U.S. Figure Skating.

The Ice Network will transition to a fee-based viewership beginning tomorrow, November 28. The cost for an annual subscription will be a most reasonable $29.95 and will include coverage of all U.S. Figure Skating qualifying events through June 30, 2007, including coverage of all five disciplines: ladies, men's, pairs, ice dancing and synchronized team skating.

Not really! Major League Baseball Advanced Media division is the premire developer of online webcasting in the U.S. They are light-years ahead of most other companies in managing, promoting and providing web streaming. This is a very smart move on the part of U.S. Figure Skating.... and I predict will pay big dividends for USFS coffeurs as well as figure skating fans.

Hmm, we'll see how it turns out. This certainly looks like a step in the right direction. Especially with so many people watching online video on Youtube, etc.

It's hard to say how promising this is. So far it looks like the only thing they will be showing is regionals and sectionals. I suppose that they can't show major events because of their deals with telvision networks.
