Held on 4/6 w/ foreign journalists. Topics covered were her professional and personal goals, relationships with the other top skaters and her sister, Mai, her goals at the 2010 Olympics; relationship with the media, her experiences in the US etc.

Personally, I am impressed to see 16-year-old Mao could maintain a natural, honest, relaxed attitude at a possibly intimidating setting. Some of the questions were negative and intrusive; but her responses were all positive and happy.

I am surprised by the intrusiveness and rudeness in some of the questions asked. I didn't think some of them appropriate at all (esp. whether or not she has a boyfriend; whether there is any jealousy between Mao and Mai; comments like Mai may have become famous because of Mao; and possible conspiracy in the Japanese Skating Federation for not having done enough lobby activities to send Mao to the 2006 Olympics because it was suspected that they had already decided to send Miki etc).:no::no::no:

But Mao's answers are very simple and positive.

I agree. She seems to be a very good-natured, happy, innocent girl. I like her a lot. It is always delightful and refreshing to see her. She has great popularity from kids to the elderly and was just ranked as one of the dream daughters in a survey in Japan.
