    Music Editing

I need to cut out some long(er) introductions on a couple of songs

I don't have software to do it

I need the music by tomorrow night (I was just given the assignment this evening UGH!)

how can I get a free piece of software to do that...?

You download one for free that's called "Blaze Media Pro". I've used that before, although be careful with saving your work. I remember it being a little wonky to get used to at first. Had to cut the music for one of my programs 3 times when I used that particular program.

Don't you have Windows Media Player? If you export the sound, edit it in the time line and then select "share or export" clip, choose export as "Sound as Wav or AIF" you will have a sound file. I don't know if you have used it that much, but the sound files can be cut, copied, sound levels, etc.... can all be edited in Win Media as far as I know.

Don't bother with page 1, the part of the screen they are showing is the same as the bottom of the window for Windows Media Editor - it is a different program than the Windows Media Player. Look for it in the Start> My Programs.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iMovieLesson6.pdf
I used iMovie because I didn't come up with any lessons with "Windows Media Player" Search - I knew where these were.
They are so alike, they interact very similarly. Just try and use the Mac screen captures in the .pdf, they look a lot like the Windows Media player and everything should be easy to "translate."

If this is no help - just looking at the similarities and then starting with Page 2 on the audio tutorial I will try something else to help.

    I don't have imovie. I'm on a PC not a Mac

and this doesn't talk about how to cut the music at all??????? it's talking about making movies/putting music on a movie... that's not what I'm doing... so I am confused as to just how to do this... I don't get what you're trying to help me out with lol

I'm sorry to sound frustrating, but I'm frustrated with this whole process.

    No problem, understood.

Once you get the sound file into the Movie EDITOR, then you can selcet from the view menu "show adio volume levels. Hold on for a minute or 30 and let me film it from my comp. So I will have to import and export a very compressed movie so you will be able to see it .?????? Whate you will take to long in trying to get a movie downloaded, I'll take some pictures and share those, I think it is really easy and the Windows Editor is so similar there should be no Issues.

Did you find windows Media Editor?

It will be easy once you get going and wont take to long, never fret, it will workout OK and in a short time you will have your project!

It appears that she does not have a music editing application. I am comprising a tutorial for her with pics so she can edit them with the "movie video" editing tool that comes standard with Windows - Windows Media FILE EDITOR. There might be something like GarageBand for window that is STANDARD, but I don't know of it, so going this rout witch is extremely easy ALSO IMO.

    I'll be back in 10min.

You know it well Dee - I think - and making a movie with personally / customized / edited sound and just exporting the movie as a sound file is all I am doing, so any hints Toni's way from you WBMA.

Open Windows Media File Editor - I am not totally sure of the name on this but it is standard with the window bundles and works like iMovie in Windows, I've played with my friends.

It Looks "like" in TimeLine view / plane ~ menu> view > "time line"
    http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...melinSound.jpg
Notice on the bottom of the program the 3 areas below the video window (one is white, one os purple and one is grey, has no file).
The "white" file in the first line is video, so it will be grey unless the music is from your movie.

Drag and drop, or import the sound file into the application. It will come up on the second line with the name on it - it will be purple in iMovie.

Zoom in and out of file (it will get longer as you zoom in) to adjust volume levels more precisely.
    http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...oAudioClip.jpg

Now right click or "view" menu - "Show audio volume levels"
    http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...AdoVoluLev.jpg
If there is a line running down the middle of the file already never mind and do this...
    http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...ustVoluLev.jpg
you can do this unlimited times in songs.
    http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...olumAdjust.jpg

To cut a section of song out, deselect "show volume levels" (the lines and adjustments to sound will disappear only from view) and "pull or drag" on the very end or beginning of the song file - "erasing" what you don't want, as you pull it "disappears."
    http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...soundfiles.jpg
    - the icon will change if you are "cutting off" opposed to "moving the whole video" make sure you are "cutting" Rather than just moving the song file around.

This sounded like all you needed to do. "Fade the song in or stat it without a long intro. So this should be it and ready for export. ••••

Supplemental - To put the new section of music (splicing) bring the next sound file in the same way as the first, move it way out of the way and edit it the same way but to the point you want the next file to start.
    http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...pasteoradd.jpg

The files can overlap, so mix your volume levels to fade or stop at the persisce point you want, then pull them togather - the match-up of beet takes a little wile to get perfict.

    ••••
    Exporting
Go to "Export Movie" or "Share" as it is called in Mac world and select "Export using Custom Settings" or might be called "Advanced Export Settings" When you choose this it should bring up your options.
First should be a pulldown menu and has a "sound only" selection in it.
    http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...ooseexport.jpg

make the selections and "export it" to your desktop or where ever you want it - are going to find it.

    That should be it.

If I have Window's Media Editor I think I would have found it by now... but I haven't...

I have Windows Media Player, and Window's Movie Maker (and while there's a way to cut the music, there's no way to save it as its own file... and I need these songs on a disk so I don't know what I'm going to do)

All I want to do is take three songs

"Here I Am", "Man I Feel Like A Woman" and "Macho Man" and cut out the parts we don't need... I know where I want the actual song to start

Here I am - 1:06 through to the end

Man I Feel Like A Woman - 2:54 to end

    and

Macho Man - :54 to end of that chorus

it shouldn't be this hard but I'm absolutely stumped lol

Maybe you can't export just the sound from Movie Maker *shrugs* - I am surprised. Sorry I couldn't help. Glad to see you have a sense of humor.
