Tatiana Tarasova will be working with Mao Asada

June 28, 2007 | IA “Sportcom”

Russian distinguished figure skating coach Tatiana Tarasova is planning to work with the star of Japanese figure skating Mao Asada.
As IA “Sportcom” found out, the 16-year-old world vice-champion will fly to Moscow for a study-and-train camp with the famous Russian instructor. Perhaps, Tatiana Tarasova will create a short program for her.
Asada normally trains in the USA with the Russian coach Rafael Arutunyan. This most talented Japanese skater is currently the only one of her colleagues who has managed to do a clean triple axel at competitions. Only five ladies in the world do this jump, currently the most difficult of ladies’ skating. By the way, the first one was also Japanese – Midori Ito, who did the triple axel in 1989.

I can't wait. Mao had a great short last year, but this year might be even better. Tersosova does great things with skaters and I can't wait to see how she will improve Mao.

Thanks Ptichka!!!

Who are these five ladies? One is for sure Mao, but the other four? Is the article counting Yukari and Kimmie? But still who are the other two?:confused:

Having watched Mao LIVE, I don't see her getting any more benefit for the 3A than with Arutunian. It's just a question of her executing the jump which should be even better this year no matter who is coaching it.

However, TT is a marvel with choreography and this will be most beneficial to break the teenybopper mode of Mao. TT will give her a needed mature look on the ice. I'm surprised Lori didn't think of this.

Midori Ito, Tonya Harding, Yukari Nakano, Ludmila Nelidina and Mao Asada. Nakano and Nelidina had their 3As ratified at the same Skate America 2002competition; despite the 3A, Nelidina was 5th and Nakano was 7th.

Meissner wouldn't be counted because she's never landed a 3A in international competition.

But it is written that 5 ladies do the triple axel. I wasn't thinking it was referring to the past.

I don't think the article meant to say that there were 5 ladies DOING the 3A now, just that only 5 had ever done it.

Mao is really the only one actively doing the 3A. Ito, Harding and Nelidina are no longer skating. Nakano has tried the 3A several times over the last 3 years, but the jump has for the most part been underrotated.

If Kimmie brings back the 3A and lands one in international competition, she will be the sixth lady to do it.

Yes, surely it meant that! I was  when I saw that sentence. I was thinking who the heck was successfully practicing the 3Axel and keeping that secret!

Yes, they were referring to those 5 ladies who have landed the triple Axel in international competition: Ito, Harding, Nakano, Nelidina, and Asada.

Interesting to note that of these 5 skaters, only Midori Ito and Mao Asada have landed the triple Axel consistently and repeatedly in competition, over a period of years. I think Nelidina and Nakano only landed the jump a few times in competition. And Harding only landed it successfully for one season, in 1991.

I would love to see Zhang with TT. AWESOME~
Zhang is doing quite well with whomever is doing the choreography. She's a very special skater, imo, and doesn't need a specialist in choreo. She will put something into it whatever the choreo is.

She's a young lady with the mature skate. Not unlike Judy Gardland as a child singing like an adult, or the young Kwan doing Salome.

Arutuniain is still mao's coach.
Mao just has a quite brief training with TT. Maybe less than half a month
