The St. Pete FSF pres Orlov announced Obertas and Slavnov would skip the season, which then led to rumors they're going to quit altogether. Below the news:

Basic news:
Yulia Obertas has an injury, but it wasn't stated what kind. Despite recommendations from national team doctor Viktor Anikanov to take a break from jumping elements, the team wanted to go to control skates. The injury worsened. As a result, ANikanov said another fall would mean surgery. At this point, Yulia's mom convinced her to take it easy with the elements.

As a result of all the stress, Velikova states, that Yulia lost 7 kilos. Prior to the injury, training was going fine and all the jumps were being landed by Yulia in practice. Velikova denied rumors that the pair planned to retire, but stated they are continuing to train - just in a more conservative fashion.

In addition, Slavnov recently had his appendix removed (no date provided).

Sergei Slavnov: "We decided to skip the coming season. Believe me, it wasn't an easy decision. Figure skating - competing, training, is our life. We can't imagine ourselves doing something else. But too many things built up one upon the other, made each thing worse and we were simply forced to take a time-out. We don't plan to retire, there is no talk of it. We won't compete, but will train, work, make programs. We need half a year to regather our strength. On the whole, we don't exclude the possibility of competing at nationals for a spot on the European and world championships teams if things develop particularly well. But we don't want to guess or give false hope to our selves or our fans. Time will tell."

Such a shame. Fact is, they're probably finished. So much unfulfilled potential.
