A couple of pairs short progrms at 2007 Chinese Nationals.

1. zhang & zhang

2. pang & tong

3. Yue ZHANG & Lei WANG

4.Bohui Dong & YiMing Wu

5. Jiaqi Li & Jiankun

6. Duo Chen & Yu Gao

Among the top 6 finishers in the SP, Yue Zhang & Lei Wang really stand out for me. Both are quite young, the girl is around 14-15 yo, but they have such strong basics, decent speed, solid technique, very nice posture and musicality. They put z/z, p/t into shame.

I can't believe they started practicing pair skating only one year ago.

Thank you for posting these videos, netnuts!

I agree that Zhang/Wang have a lot of potential; I think that she and Bohui Dong are quite expressive.

I am very happy to hear Pang/Tong's music; I love that Massenet.

Thanks so much for the videos, these are great. I like what I'm seeing -- although I still wish Zhang and Pang would poin their toes even if it is just a little.

Does anyone know if the Chinese have a third senior team to send to Worlds, and if so, who are they? thanks.

Yes indeed, Zhang and Wang do have potential. I presume they are not too old for this and they do have top coaches and choreographers. They are good at hitting the beats of the music. I got a charge out of that Anglo/Amercian seafaring music they used. Quite good. :)

How old are Zhang/Wang? Are they doing the JGP or is he too old. I think they are amazing considering they have only been skating pairs a year together - isnt that what you said?
Will they do Jr. Worlds or Worlds if they are age eligible?
Great potential there. :agree:

They won bronze medals at JGP Talin, whcih was also their first pair competition. They'll compete next week in Britain. The guy is about 18-19 years old, and the girl is only around 14 yo, I believe. She looks pretty mature though. Both of them were very promising Jr. single skaters in China, so their jump technique is very solid compared to other Jr. pairs. Bin Yao recruited them last year together with another Jr. Dong/Wu (that pair is a bit older, maybe around 18-19 yos).

This is also the first time I saw them. Much stronger basics than younger z/z. However, Wang's strength is a concern. He is certainly not as beefy as Hao Zhang, so lifts can be a problem for this them in the future.

I do like what I'm seeing from them so far, netnuts. Their lifts aren't as solid as their other elements, but aside from the size difference, it's probably just that they haven't been skating together that long and also that they're new at pairs skating. Right now their holds look a little stiff and he slows down noticeably during rotations. But that's ok - lifts are always the last element to "gel" IMO. We'll see how they develop but I already like them more than Z&Z and P&T, maybe even S&Z when they first broke through. So I'm giving them a !

Does someone have the link to the results page?
thanks
bibi :D

The results page links to a big pdf file(12 MB, 120 pages) which contains everything. You may not be able to read it since the skaters' names are in Chinese.

Looks like Binshu Xu had a disastrous competition. She was 3rd overall, but had some jump problems. She included two new combo jumps 2A+3T, 3lut+2t+2lo.

There's a promising 12-yo girl - Bingwa Gen. She was in fourth place overall, and has just mastered 3lutz, 3flip on top of 3S, 3T. I saw a brief clip of her 1.5 years ago. We'll see how she progresses.

I read somewhere couple of years ago, Bin Yao said he won't send some half coocked team to world stage just yet. If he sends he wanted them to be like P/T and Z/Z make a ripple at Junior world first.

ETA. just watched those SP. Yeah, I would say the young team Z/W looked much more polished than all other teams (S/Z, P/T, Z/Z) had been. Notice that they also come from Harbin. thanks for links.

The Chinese press is reporting some changes to 'Cup of China's roster.

Yue Zhang & Lei Wang have been added to 'Cup of China', Yeah!!!

Maria SERGEJEVA / Ilja GLEBOV from EST(?) are also added to pairs competition.

Ming Xu is replacing Song Gao in men's roster. He was 2nd at the Chinese Nationals concluded on Friday.

16-yo-old Yueren Wang has been added to women's roster. She was 5th at the Nationals scoring 41 in SP and 86 in FP. She can do 3t, 3s, 3lo, 3f.

From a reported interview of Bin Yao, it seems that Bin Yao has very high expectation for Zhang/Wang, the young pair.
