They had to pull out of Nats because of an illness on her part, I think asthma. I think they're miss Jr. Worlds for the same reason.

Lenko/Islam dropped out of JW 2007 for the same reason (her asthma) , then out of the JGPF in December and Nationals in January. They haven't been able to compete since JGP EST in September.

Poor girl. Having asthma myself, I know she must be having a rough time. Hope her asthma soon gets controlled, so she won't have so many problems!

It's quite interesting to see the scores for the same CD (Cha-Cha Congelado) at the JGPF and JW, and the difference in placements:

Seems to me like the scoring was just higher overall.

Monko/Tkachenko's and Gorshkova/Butikov's JW scores were only slightly higher. But Samuelson/Bates, Crone/Poirier and Riazanova JW scores were much higher because (IMO) they were all held down at the JGPF. If you recall, the ice dance scoring at the JGPF was highly controversial and there have been reports by people on the inside that there was disciplinary action taken because of it.

Or some teams skated better, or worse. I suppose that could never happen. :chorus:

Could sometimes happen, but IMO, did not happen at the JGPF. The scoring for the entire ice dance competition was a crock.

I suppose it must be quite convenient for the Russian judges that the Russians skated better when they were all on the panel...

Well, chuckm, did you see the competition to make such statements?

I suppose it must be quite convenient for the Russian judges that the Russians skated better when they were all on the panel...

Funny, because if you listen to chuckm, the panel is loaded with pro-Russian judges here. Yet S&B skated the best and were rewarded accordingly...as were the Canadians.

According to the ISU website message boards, the panel this time around was thus:

BUL ITA SUI SVK UKR GBR GER CZE HUN EST FRA CAN

No official Russian judge, half the panel was western, and only two former Soviet Republic judges, and one of them was from Estonia. The question remains of who was dropped, but even if neither the Ukrainian or Estonian judge were, their influence was limited.
What the panel will be for the next two segments, of course, remains another matter.

I never said the JW ice dance panel was loaded with pro-Russian judges. I said the WORLD ice dance panel was. Different competition entirely.

The JW Ice Dance panel for the CD: BUL ITA SUI SVK UKR GBR GER CZE HUN EST FRA CAN . There's no particular advantage for any team. Maybe that's why the scores have returned to a semblance of normalcy (i.e. more closely agree with JGP results).

The same judges will be on the OD panel, but the seating order will change (this affects which judges' scores will be randomly selected).

The FD panel will include AUS, POL, RUS, USA plus 8 judges drawn at random from the CD/OD panel.
