Thanks for posting that. I have never heard of her but she seems to be a great skater. I would love to have been around during those times.

She was the inventor of the layback and camel spins, if I recall correctly.

Colledge would have been the favorite in the 1940 Olympics, had the games been held. She was the 1937 World Champion (after Henie retired) and the European Champion in 1937, 1938 and 1939.

When championship skating returned after World War II, European figure skating was in a shambes, never fully to recover. Canadian Barbara Ann Scott won the 1947 European Championship, America Gretchen Merrill was second, and at the 1947 World Championship, also won by Scott, four of the top six were North American.

    Cecilia Colledge rocked!!

Here's clips from the 1936 Olympics which also include a bit of Cecilia skating. I uploaded this in her memory. You certainly get a flavour of the era!

Rest in peace Cecilia! My condolences to her family and friends.

She gave a lot to FS!!! Layback and camel spin, one-foot axel, first double salchow!

I wonder if she saluted Hitler in 36? All athletes were told to do so. Belita refused.
