Interesting! Perhaps it is the way to make skating affordable for beginners.

I'm surprised, though, that all the comments on yahoo seem so negative. Nobody is saying this is going to replace the Olympic ice; they are just talking about using it for some very limited practices...

Back in the day, there were experiments in the US with making rinks coated with Teflon, for the very same reasons.

it's definitely and interesting concept... if it works, more power to them

though, I wonder, if this will change technique even slightly as it's a different type of surface and therefore different pressures/sciences/whatever might apply?
