I am glad that Mura won overall despite having only the third freeskate, but he had the highest TES in the freeskate and it would have been bitter for him to lose just because Voronov and the US-guy got a bit more PCS.

Looking at the protocol, Lutai got zero mark for his combo in his SP. Is this because of lack of steps before one jumping pass?

Looking at the amount of GOE Shaun Rogers received for his 4T and a single 3A tells me how important to execute those difficult jumps *cleanly*.

No, Lutai repeated the 3T in his jump combo which negated the entire combination. His SP jumps were 3A, 3T (meant to be a 4T?) and 3Lz+3T.
Thanks for clarification. I never really understood this "no repeating of the same kind of triple jump allowed" rule, since 3T-3T is obviously allowed. So, does the precise rule prohibit repeating the same kind of triple over different jumping passes, am I understanding it correctly now or am I still lost?

You can only repeat 2 kinds of triple and to repeat one, 1 attempt must be in combination. So a 3T-3T can be done, but then the skater cannot attempt another 3T and can only repeat 1 other 3jump.

Thanks for the reply.

I definitely am aware of the rule you described for the free program.
But I (and Sylvia also) was talking about the short program, where Lutai ended up repeating 3T twice. His jumps were 3A, 3T, and 3Lz-3T (where the last 3T looked severely underrotated but it doesn't matter anyway as the combo didn't count.) I don't know if the rule you described is stated by the ISU also for the short program, but even if it is, it would be irrelevant for repeated 3T or any kinds of repeated triples except for two solo 3A's, as there are only two solo jumps allowed in the short, one of which must be an axel.

A 3T-3T combo is allowed in the short program as that's what Voronov did in his SP in this very competition for which he received credit, and we can also recall Lepisto's fantastic SP at Skate Canada last season. That's why I wanted to make sure what makes the difference between Lutai's case and Voronov's case.

I believe the rule you're looking for, is this one: "Solo jumps must be different from the jumps included in the combination".

It's in a document called Judging System ISU First Aid for Technical Controllers and Technical Specialists

Many thanks to HanahXXXXXX for providing the vids on youtube.

Great to see Shaun skate and go for everything. At Liberty he skated well also. This is the most consistent I have seen him in a really long time.

Great for Elene Gedevanishvilli. She has been struggling the last couple of years and she need it this good skate.

I had imagined the possibility of Akiko on top of the podium but not by such a big margin of points !!

Now I'm not sure which three ladies will go to LA worlds from Japan.
There are five to six candidates. Nats this season will surely be a nail biter.

Hsuhs, thanks for the link you provided. I often have trouble finding the right ISU documents and the right articles in them that answer my questions, so it&s greatly appreciated. And yes, this is exactly the rule that is relevant to my question, so thanks again!

Sorry I went far off topic. Back to Finlandia, congrats to Akiko for the great performance in her second competition of the season. I am a bit disappointed to see Poykio and Kahle not doing well, I hope they will do better in later competitions.

Looking at the jump layout of Sara Meier in her FS, I guess one of her two jump combos was originally planned as (or planned to be upgraded to) a 3-3, probably 3S-3T. Although she apparently had a rough skating this time, I am looking forward to her progress and hope she will even outdo her fantastic Japan Open performance this season.

By the way, has Kahle switched her coach from Caroll/Congemi to Wong? At least that is how it looks from the photos at the icenetwork site.

On reflection after seeing the ladies vids on youtube (big thank you to hanna for supplying these, need to watch the men's soon) I think it was a great start to the season. I thought all the ladies performed well. What is so good with the COP is that the skaters can view their sheets and work on things for the next competition, so that is great.

Loved Sarah Meier's short program to Samba. I think this program will grow and loved her interpretation to the music. What is so good with Sarah is that she can adapt so easily to any piece of music. Her LP (i think the music was yellow river concerto) was a little bit laboured but I can see its potential. I would have liked Sarah to have kept her LP to La Folle in black/Red autumn from last year as it was well put together.

Elene Gedevaishvilli great start to season, she has got her lutz back, great power, length and speed on it, still needs to be careful not to double touch down and sensible to put the salchow in just to make the SP clean, as her spins and step sequences are very good, Elene has certainly worked on PCS this year as they have increased immensely. Love her LP to selections of latin her best LP to date and really suits her style, again this program will grow and I think she is on her way to top 5 again for euro's.

Laura Lepisto has improved greatly, a great skating style, her skating skills and transitions are one of the best, her SP is good and will improve. Glad she kept her LP to Juan Der Marco, such a good well thought put together program, just worries me she has not got the flip or lutz, if she had these "Oh Boy" I would think she be a hot contender for the Gold in her home country, but without these she might be bridesmaid again to Kostner and Meier, we shall see!!, but two silvers for Laura in the B Series well done indeed.

Susanna Poykio great to see her back, struggled a bit on her landings of her jumps but her style is so clean and lovely to watch. Just needs to push out more on her choreography as I noticed her PCS were under 50 which was unusual for her, but I think having a year out as hurt her there but its early days and I am sure Susanna will work on areas for upcoming tournaments. Loved her classical look this year I hope she does well and can make the Euro team. Good luck Susanna.

Jenna McCorkell certainly has improved and things are on the rise since working alongside Kevin Van Der Perren in Belgium. Jenna has learned a lot and seems more confident. Glad she kept her Harem SP that is a great choice for her and I love that straight line step sequence at the end and I love Jenna's jumping technique. I think she will get better!!

Jenni Vahamaa seems to have grown a bit and has affected her timing of the jumps but I am sure they will be back and I think Jenni has a great future for herself as well as for the finnish skating federation. Loved both her SP and LP and I hope she does well.

Akiko Suzuki well what a surprise, she was on fire. Really enjoyed her flow and her jumping, dont know too much about her but Japan has another good talent and if she keeps this up could be a surprise at Nationals. a bronze and now Gold on the B series just so good for her.

The Japanese are doing well at the moment with Oda, Mura and Suzuki and we have not seen their counterparts yet who will surely do well on the grand prix series.

Loved her! That was such a great program. Her extension and body control are outstanding. The program felt like everything belonged together, everything was intended, beautiful to the music. I am very impressed right now. And her Tango is still my favourite of the season (even after having seen Stéphane's at the Golden Skate Awards - but he will probably improve it, he just didn't have much training time till now...).
