Notice that in those days, the women also wore black skates. Probably because the manufacturer had the same philosophy that Henry Ford had towards the model T.

Henie was the first woman to wear white skates...
I get a kick out of looking at vintage skating clips and photos. Those skaters were the true pioneers of the sport, and most of them competed OUTDOORS, in all kinds of adverse weather conditions.
