Sylvia just reported the following over at FSU. I'm shocked to see Brezina 3rd without deductions. And :cheer2: for Curran Oi. He must have landed his 3A beautifully for that kind of score. The top three have distanced themselves a long way from the pack. I think we know who the 3 medallists will be, just not which medal they will receive, barring a complete meltdown or injury..

No need as Men's SP results are now up: http://www.isufs.org/results/jgpita2008/SEG001.HTM

I mentioned at FSU earlier that I heard that Curran Oi skated great -- I'm guessing he must have landed 3A, 3F+3T and 3Z (he landed a clean 3A in his Senior SP at Liberty in July) -- and that Brezina reportedly doubled his Lutz.

Looking at those marks, I see that Brezina did do much much better in the presentation, not to my surprise, and doubling a lutz bids a faulty tech.

Very nice for Oi. He probably conquered the demons and it may get him a gold but we'll see. (or wish we could see.)

Alexander Nicolaev - should I know him? I may very well after the LP.

Mikhailov isn't with Mishin anymore, he went to Moscov to Elena Buyanova in February.

If you recall, Brezina had a mistake in the SP at Courchevel as well: his combo was 3F+1T. This time, he doubled the lutz but still scored about the same (63.13 at Courchevel, 63.52 in Merano).

Nikita Mikhailov is coached by Mishin and finished second in Jrs at Russian Nationals. The above is his performance at Russian nationals.

Alexander Nikolaev finished 7th in Juniors at Russian Nationals and was in the Moscow Stars of 2014 show:

Thanks for the link on Russian Nats. Mikhailov seems to be a skater who listens to the music. He doesn't oversell his tricks a la Plushenko, they are just part of the whole performance. I like that. It was interesting to see him in a 'shoot the duck' into Lutz. He hardly rose up as so many do. It's Mischin's loss and credit to the new coach. I will expect good things from Mikhailov in future.

I also checked out Gatchinsky youtube while there. Lots of flailing arms, a good spinner, iffy and low jumps. Just not my cup of tea. Mischin lost the better of the two.

Elena Buianova (Vodorezova) is Nikita's former coach. He rised at Senior Nationals in season 2003/04 (he finished 11th at the age of fourteen, some people saw next Plushenko in him) then he decided to go to Petersburg and train with Mishin. But many people said that Mishin didn't pay much attention to him and Nikita didn't progress as much as was expecting. He started to fight with concentration, he lost many competition because of his mental imbalance. Some weeks before Russian Junior Nats 2008 he came back to Moscow to Buianova and second place at Russian Junior Nats attached him place in Russian World Junior Team. He didn't skate his best at Junior Worlds 2008 and he finished 20th (he landed 3axel with not good landing in free skate), but he did something what I didn't see from him for a very long time - he was fighting from the beginning to the end and he skated with fire. By the way, he is great dancer.

Nikita's show number from Future Stars Show in Moscow, May 2008 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vh4S76d5Vo

Wow! That is a huge gap between first and second. Michal really must have knocked it out of the park with that performance, well done! Also, congrats to Curran Oi! Wasn't this his first appearance on the JGP circuit? Well done.
Hope to see some of these performances on youtube.

Michal Brezina is a very special skater. He has it all. I can see his Senior debut next year as one big WOW. Hope he continues in the direction he now is going.

Does anyone have a youtube of some of the Men?

Nice to see Oi on the podium.

Didn't he beat Tomas Verner at Nebelhorn last year? I don't remember his name but he was a young Czech skater.

Congrats to Brezina!

And now we know why he was third in the short, he didn't just double the Lutz but also the Toe in his combo.

Brezina didn't get a single -GOE in the long program, not even from one judge. It's really amazing.

Brezina has that certain "it" factor... a performer... who likes being watched and knows what the audience wants to see
