Great job by Richard Dornbush! 67.24!!! He is leading by 5 points.

Doris, these are the PCS scores for the men. I think you have some TES scores mixed in there:

28.74 DORNBUSH
27.47 BALDE
26.57 GONZALEZ
25.50 CHENG
24.66 SONG
24.38 FERNANDEZ J
22.80 MORAIS
20.98 PAPP
20.60 KIM
17.44 ZAKOURIL
16.56 YEN
16.27 JOREY-HUGHES

Dornbush leads in both TES and PCS.

Last season, Dornbush scored 105.95 in the FS of his JGP event in Vienna. He went on to score 109.99 at Sectionals, and 126.81 at Nationals.

His Mexico City SP score seems to be a personal best for him.

He (Dornbush) has finally come alive. Must wait for LP to see if he can maintain it.

I remember Baldie last year, and he is quite good. I think he could win this.

Gonzalez was new to me last year and he was ok but nothing special.

I do like Fernandez from last year. He has a budding style.

Balde had an up-and-down season last year.

In the 2007-2008 JGP, Balde competed in Germany and Great Britain. In Chemnitz, he was 14th, scoring 43.56 in the SP and 89.17 in the FS; he fared better in Sheffield, finishing 7th, with 47.70 in the SP and 103.60 in the FS. He won the Junior 2007 Canadian Challenge, scoring 41.90 in the SP and 99.33 in the FS, and also won the Junior title at Canadian Nationals, scoring 55.58 and 109.68. At Junior Worlds, he scored 46.98 in the SP, 93.36 in the FS and finished 20th.

Balde won the Senior Men's competition at Minto in early August with a 55.86 SP and an 87.61 FS. He was second to Shawn Sawyer at the Quebec Summer Championship two weeks later with a 65.04 SP and a 102.90 FS.

At the Quebec Summer Championships last month, Elladj Balde landed 3F+3T, 3A and 3Lz and scored 65.04 to win the Senior SP there. These were the same SP jumps planned by Richard Dornbush (he scored 64.84 with a fall on the 3A to win the Jr. SP at the Silicon Valley Open last month). Andrew Gonzales finished 2nd to Dornbush at SVO with 52.97 (landed 3F+3T and 2A, had problem with 3Lz).

Daisuke Murakami

Does anyone know why Daisuke Murakami withdrew from the Mexico Cup and preferred to compete at the Middle Atlantic FS Champs? I don´t think it was a reasonable decision.

It wasn't his decision. It was reported on FSU that the Japanese Skating Federation, the epitome of wisdom and responsibility, screwed up the paperwork and he was unable to go. :( Good going, JSF. :disapp:

It's really a shame. He was very excited to go. He certainly could use some international experience and exposure, and ISU points. With the way he's been performing recently, he could have made the podium, or even win.

The following was published at the end of an Emily Hughes/Mid-Atlantics competition article (I've posted the article link in the"Emily Hughes update" thread in The Edge):
Daisuke Murakami, the former U.S. novice medalist who now represents Japan, dominated the junior men's event [at Mid Atlantics]. He had planned to compete at last week's JGP in Mexico City, but a paperwork glitch put an end to those hopes.

"Daisuke was released by U.S. Figure Skating and he didn't compete last season, so he could [represent] Japan this season," the skater's coach, Nikolai Morozov, said. "We got to Mexico City and then they told us he could not compete there. The Japanese federation was supposed to file [notice] that he was competing 30 days before [the event], but they didn't make the deadline."

Murakami, who seemed to take the snafu in stride, said, "I got there, had one practice [on Wednesday], and turned around and came back Thursday night. But we had entered [Mid Atlantics] before and never withdrew, so I just came here."

The skater hopes to compete at two other JGP events later this fall.

What a disappointment for Dice! I'm so glad he really rocked his program at MidAtlantics, and I hope the Japanese federation gets its act in order for 2 other JGP's for him.
