The results of the SP were just posted!

Hooray for Amanda Dobbs in 1st, Alexe Gilles in 2nd, and Cecylia Witkowski of Canada in 3rd!! Min-Jung Kwak of Korea was a surprise to me. She was 2nd in Juniors at Korean Nationals. I have found videos of her SP and LP at 2008 Korean Nationals, and they are now posted in the Event Previews thread.

Gillies seems to be a winner before every contest but when it comes down to the nitty gritty, she misses out.

I know Dobbs from last season, and thought she should do well in future. It must have been last year's JGP

We'll see how these two play out in the LP. I don't really know the others, but I noticed Witkowski is very close in the scores, and Min Jung KWAK is not far behind.

That is SO not true. Alexei Gilles seems to have a problem with her SP at every competition, but she comes on like gangbusters in the FS. Last year, she won the Lake Placid JGP; she was outshone in the JGPF by Nagasu, Flatt and Musademba, but she did win the National Junior title after finishing 3rd in the SP. Her FS at both Broadmoor and Liberty this season was wonderful, and she scored 105 in the Broadmoor FS and 92 at the Liberty FS.

.

You know Dobbs from 2008 Nationals, where she was 5th as a Junior. She had a rough SP, but finished 2nd to Gilles in the FS. This is Amanda's first JGP event.

Gilles received a 1.00 deduction; anyone know why?
Can't wait to hear the results of the free skate; the top 3 are very close and #4 is not far behind at all. Hope everyone stays clean!

Wow, they're very strick technically. If she got downgraded 3 of her triples made me worry. Kimmie and Caroline Z. were in trouble last year due to their jumps were frequently downgraded.

I wouldn't be that concerned about the pickiness of the judges---it's being applied to ALL the skaters. Gilles finished nearly 20 points ahead of the third place skater.

So far, Kristine Musademba is the top scorer with 143.02, followed by Dobbs, Gilles and Bereswill, all in the 130s, then Bulanhagui with 127.25. All of the other non-US medalwinners had total scores lower than that.

Amanda's 139.44 is a better score than her previous best of 142.76 at Nationals if you strike out the 3.97 points she got for the spiral sequence in the FS. (The spiral sequence has been removed from the juniors ladies FS.) The rest of the quality of Amanda's skating made up for the one fall.

So it was safe to assume that Amanda would get 2 JGP assignments. ;) Not so safe to put her on the list of World Junior Championship participants for the USA. She hasn't yet added the 3Lo or the 3F to her jump arsenal, much less the 3Lz or 3T+3T.

Kristine performed 5 different triples in Courchevel and IMO her presentation has improved. Alexe can't be discounted yet. And of course Angela Maxwell will be a factor.
