Ladies--If I were going to attend this event, I would most want to see the programs of some outstanding novices up for their JGP debut-Marissa Secundy (USA), Yokiko Fujisawa (JPN), and Alexandra Najarro (CAN). As to winning the event, I expect the top 6 to be Maxwell, Ishikawa, Berton (yes, her 4th place scores from Courchevel could be enough to win in this group), Gozeva, Fujisawa, and Secundy.

Fujisawa is an adorable little skater. Lots of charm there. Some additional info:

She won Skate Copenhagen in the Novice Girls division with a score of 138,05. She scored 48,76 in the short program and 89.29 in the free. She landed a 3T+2T, 3Lz and 2A in her SP and had high levels on her spins and spiral. In the free, sh landed 3Lz, 3T+2T+2L, 3S, 3F+2T, 2A and 3T+2A+SEQ. She had lots of +3s for her layback spin.

She also finished second in Novice A at Japanese Nationals (74.10 in her FS).

Shoko Ishikawa finished eighth at Japanese Senior Nationals with a score of 142.57.

Smekhnova finished eighth at Russian Juniors with a score of 122,68.

Jana Smekhnova (16), S5 and J8 at the Russian Nationals 2008 will not compete in Ostrava. Does anyone know what happened?

Wow, 138.05 is a big score for the novice division. The 2nd place girl at Skate Copenhagen got 85.01. I found a page with the protocols:
http://www.hvidovre-skojteklub.dk/viewpage.php?page_id=40

Here's her ISU bio: http://www.isufs.org/bios/isufs00011381.htm
Yukiko Fujisawa is age 13 years and 5 months.

Mao Asada was 2 weeks away from age 14 when she scored 138.02 at the JGP Long Beach (USA). Then Mao added the 3A to her repertoire ...

It looks like Angela Maxwell is going to get some competition and even if she wins, Fujisawa might surpass her in a couple of years.

However, it looks like the novices at Skate Copenhagen performed junior programs. Less impressive but still good. Maybe it'll be Angela with a clear win with the two japanese ladies competiting for silver.
