Bariev wins the LP, but Alexander Johnson hangs on to win the gold medal. Keegan Messing finished fourth.

Bariev came back fighting. Johnson holds on by a few tenths of a point. I have no conclusion to my opinions on these two, I would love to see the Long Programmes.

Toni, Have you ever tried to bring Keegan to the local press's attention? You've got photos of him...you'd think a human interest story, at least, would be in order. In fact, have you ever considered doing a skating column for your local paper?

I don't like Ivan Bariev's skating too much, but he was a shining star yesterday. He was far better than others (especially as to presentation). He didn't have 3axel or quad (but we all know that with new judging system skaters don't need this elements to win) but except 3lutz underrotated 2toeloop combo his jums were great. With every next successful jump he was more vivid and passionate. He deserved to win this event. Alex Johnson's performance looked very pale and without a flash in comparison with Ivan.

Johnson opened with 1flip 2toe combo but he was able to come back and land the rest of his triples.

Akio Sasaki is true entertainer plus he had a good day and landed six clean triples.

Keegan had a shaky performance. He landed 3axel but with really bad landing (if technical specialist wanted he could count it as another fall).

Stanislav Kovalev was in good mood and his mood rised with every jump. He landed everything not without some small mistakes. He did better than in practise.

Sasha Majorov is another men worth mentioning. His Carmen performance is full of energy and passion. He has a very good presentation, he is natural. His jumps reminds me of Lindemann - strong and high and very powerful. He landed few jumps but he fell twice. He needs time to find himself and to concentrate well.

Petr Coufal finished 16th. It was a great job from this thirteen years old boy. He landed beautiful 3lutz in warm-up, unfortunately in free skate it was only 1lutz. He landed very nice 3loop and 3toeloop and some doubles. Two jumps (3salchow and 2loop in combo) were underrotated. He earned the second JGP nomination - he will skate in Sheffield.

The Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News did a very nice article on Keegan Messing after he caused a splash at 2007 U.S. Nationals by winning the Novice Men's free skate and the bronze medal. He was credited with landing a triple Axel (with one or both hands down) in the FS. I just dug out the original URL and am pleased to find the article online still! yes, I know Keegan got an article more than a year ago... but that's ALL he gets. No follow ups, not even a blurb in the sports column

but you can bet any guy that goes on to play football gets a mention every week - even if he's on the crappiest team in the country! or our hockey players who aren't even in the NHL they're in the smaller divisions, gotta give them credit.

I've been a pest lately for them to do a follow up, and I don't even get a response of 'stop bugging us'.... no one gives a crap about the sport up here (1999 - couldn't even fill the arena to HALF full when Scott Hamilton and Katarina Witt came up here...)

I've written a few skating articles for journalism courses in school, but while that's part of my major, I absolutely hate it lol

He could argue that: The Lip was intended to be a Lutz and the Flutz was intended to be a Flip.
