Let's hope that some youtubes will show up of this great competition, not just the fluffs!

Are you sure the dance scores you posted are for the CD? They seem far more typical of the OD.

In fact, the highest CD score ever recorded internationally is

1 Tatiana NAVKA / Roman KOSTOMAROV RUS World Championships 2005 15.03.2005 45.97 S

A CD score breaking the record by 2 points, for a junior team whose best all time international CD score, earned at Courchevel JGP this year, is 28.19, seems very unlikely.

Very small part of Joubert's short: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yblJ3b5Kb3A

Hmm - does Joubert only have blade problems? Four clean Triples, two underrotated Triples and a fall on the Quad? That's a lot of blade problems.

Préaubert got less TES than Ponsero but four more points in the PCS. That's much - perhaps Preaubert's program is a cracker.

Preaubert did an underrotated Quad Toe, but then did 7 clean Triples :)rock:) and one Triple Flutz (was he flutzing last season too?). Quite impressive.

Ponsero had a fall on the loop :)no:), but he did a Quad and got +2,67 GOE. And if the Quad was as good as the Nebelhorn Quad, I am quite sure that this much GOE is justified. Other than that he had 5 clean Triples including a +1 GOE Triple Axel. I just have a tiny question about his jump layout - why is the guy not repeating another Triple? He always repeats the Triple Salchow but not another Triple jump.

Well, apart from Joubert: Vive la France!

A tentative translation:

Préaubert:
«After 6 months without any competions, I'm thrilled to win here. I already had beaten Brian in this competition back in 2004, but the most important is that I'm really happy about my performance.
I was struggling with injuries for about a year, a year and a half . I questionned everything. The work I've done with Muriel Zazoui in Lyon for a month when Icould do jumps but just glide on the ice is paying off today».
Préaubert also had a word for Joubert: «My goal for this season is clearly to stand on the podium at Euros, but if I did beat Brian today it's because of him, this summer at Courchevel we worked a lot together. I'm not at all worried for him. He'll come back»

Joubert:
« I couldn't breathe, I wasn't in because of this blade problem. I was struggling a lot on the ice. I could manage to skate in the short but not the free.
I'm very dispointed because I had a very very good preparation coming in this competition and I lost everything on four days. The whole program was a suffering. I wanted only one thing: That everything would stop. I felt no pleasure skating.
I hate to lose, but I'm not going to make a big deal of it. On Monday, I'm going to change my skates. I need to rebound, at my next competiton in 15 days at Nice.
I'm very happy for Alban who had his last season spoiled by injuries»

About the dance competiton:

In ice dance, Delobel and Schoenfelder won, skating to Pink Floyd even if they missed a spin.
But the couple who had the audience's favour was undoubtly Nathalie Péchalat - Fabian Bourzat whose FD thema is The Circus. Their work with Alexander Zhulin is paying off.

Joubert shows new programs in France

I believe this should go in this thread

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081004&content_id=52502&vkey=ice_news

Starting a new season is always a challenge for skaters. The French Masters, which are being held in the city of Orleans, one hour South of Paris, were created just for that purpose. Traditionally the first competition of the season, they are welcomed by most elite junior and senior skaters, who are eager to show their new programs.

Love the picture, thanks for posting it, 1795!

Although not of the competition, I thought this would be the best place to post. Here's a short video of a Brian Joubert interview with shots of him practicing his new programs. I'll post it in the 2008/2009 programs thread as well.

Preaubert surprises Joubert at French Masters

http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081005&content_id=52570&vkey=ice_news
No one would have ever thought it could happen. Brian Joubert was leading the pack at the French Masters after a nearly flawless short program. He had not been defeated in competition in France in the last four years. Yet the most improbable comeback happened Saturday night in Orléans, when Alban Préaubert won the free program and the overall competition.

Translation of a report:

After a short program dominated by Brian, everybody was expecting the same this Saturday. Yannick PONSERO, even with almost 20 points from the lead, gave the best of himself. Having done a good free at the NEBELHOR Trophy at OBERSTDORF, The 2005 junior worlds silver medalist did again a beautiful quad at the beginning of his routine. His performance howerver did not allow him to move up and he ended up 3rd.
« I'm satisfied because I have the highest TES even if I have reduced the technical content here. I'm going to add a triple axel and two triple lutz to replace the Salchow. Yesterday I was very disapointed, no by the fall but all of the little mistakes. My skate got stuck in my outfit during the first step sequence and after that I was lost. It explains most of my errors… ».

So it left only two skaters to balttle for the gold. The dual was without question won for the first time by Annick DUMONT's student. Alban had a triomphical return against a world champion reduced here at the Baron rink. « I'm very dispointed. It annoys me to lose, even if I'm happy for Alban. I must forget the Master’s 2008, mybe not completly and concentrated myself on the work I have to do. It'll start on monday with a change of skates which caused me a lot of troubles here. »

In ice dance, the french leaders did not weakens against the adversity who is getting stronger. DELOBEL and SCHOENFELDER were smiling and were « overall satisfied » by this new victory, even if a lot of details need to be improved if they want to keep the crown they gained a few months ago.
PECHALAT and BOURZAT should be counted as their opponents too because their demonstration here was more than convincing. « We are happy because we have the feeling that we have improved the relation with the audience [note: They had a standing ovation and the audience booed their 2nd place in the free]. Now it's just the beginning of the season and we still have a lot of work to do, but we still can improve, we're not done. »

Thank you for posting the link, rosee.

I think it's a lovely program, very energetic, very Brian. IMO, It's better than many mens sps I've seen so far. It has a great potential, too. What I don't like is that not so much happens between the jumps. Also, the spins.
