Now it is official that Ilia (and his family) has moved to East coast:

An exerpt:

>Ilia has moved to the East Coast and is skating at the Newington rink. His practice schedule isn't consistent from day to day right now but he said that when he can get it there he will designate some "open practices" so that people who would like to drop in, can. I think that's just super and it has been a long time since we've been invited to open practices. By the way - his idea completely. >

I don´t know anything else about his acting career than that he appeared in the movie "Center Stage". I doubt that he has been trying to pursue that career more. At least his fans hoped that he would concentrate on skating, especially as he already has that career where he is extremely talented.

Anyway, I got the impression that Ilia moved to California because he liked the climate and the activities he was able to do there during the whole year. Especially the climate as it was different to that of an ice rink, LOL. My guess is that as a man with a family he probably has other values or goals now.

It would also make sense that Katia would want to be near her parents, and would want both her daughters to have the benefit of being with their grandparents.

Well, another set of grandparents also exists, LOL...

Anyway, I have understood from Katia´s book that she rather liked living in Connecticut and does not enjoy the heat so much. Maybe also one of the reasons for their move is the ice rink.

Jaana, thanks for the information. :)

Hopefully with all those wonderful skaters here the coming winter won't be as gloomy.

Yes, lots of skaters training on the East coast... Will you have plenty of snow in the winter?

Yay, Connecticut..., skating fans there can feel very happy indeed.

And Marlboro MA is not far away, where Ilia trained in 1996-1996, preparing for the Nagano Olympics. Maybe some "old" fans from that area too are able to visit the Newington rink when there will be info that he is having those open practices?

Last winter was OK (not too much snow, but enough), the one before it was very light, but I've read this one is going to be really cold, lots of snow, etc. We'll have to wait and see.

Btw, as for Marlboro/Marlborough (it's Marlborough on the city sign, and Marlboro on the road signs  ) there's a big, um... flag kind of thing with his name ("It was home for the Olympic champion Ilia Kulik" -- or something like that) above one of the rinks there, and his pictures are on the walls in the halls. It's almost as if he has never left. ;)

Thanks for the info, Windspirit! Let´s hope that they are not right about the coming winter, LOL...

WOW, great that the rink still remember him! Would be wonderful to see those pictures on the wall there!

Thanks for the news, Jaana. In the complete link it sort of alluded to Ilia's skating obligations. If he's not doing SOI (their loss absolutely! I like Todd Eldredge, but Ilia he ain't), where will he be performing during the coming season?

My only other question besides that is: When is the next train from NYC to Newington?! Open practices sound worth the trip!

is a weekly poll about "which of next season's professional/pro-am event are you looking forward to the most?".

They mention Canadian Open, Hallmark Professional and Ice Wars. IF there really will be a Hallmark competition as a pro one this season, one could assume that Ilia might participate.

Thanks, Jaana. Now I can get some of my Ilia fix. And at least SOI was smart enough to have him skate in Europe.:)
