I have always enjoyed studying the history of figure skating and figure skates. Here is a "tribute" to Sonja Henie. Of course, the boots worn today are much shorter.
An ice skater and movie star, Sonja Henie significantly influenced the development of her sport with her blend of skill and glamour. One of the great figure skaters of the 20th century, she revived interest in the sport with 3 gold-medal performances at the Olympic Games, touring ice pageants, and movies.
During the 1920s and 1930s, Henie created the dance style of skating and the short skating costume, as well as popularized women's white boot skates.
