I wonder who would be on the podium this year.
My prediction:

Men
1. Taka
2. Oda
3. Nakaniwa
4. Nanri

Taka may be the strongest. Oda may suffer from a confidence issue but still would be on the podium. The rest seems rather unpredictable.

Ladies
1. Mao
2. Suzuki
3. Yukari
4. Miki
5. Fumie
6. Takeda

Miki is very unpredictable.
Fumie is getting better but has still a lot of concerns.
Takeda did not seem to be in a good shape.

If Miki Ando skates like at GP series, it's very difficult for anyone but Mao to beat her at nationals. Because her 3-3s are surely ratified and much higher PC marks are guaranteed. Ando has TOYOTA on her back. I expect junior skaters (Nishino or Nakamura) will overtake Takeda or even Suguri. The junior champion (JSF's favorite for jr. worlds) is always strongly held up here.

 A competition on Christmas and Boxing Day? Poor skaters.

I can't make any predictions since I don't know the field very well, but I'm hoping Nobunari comes out on top as the champion.

Also, although I've nothing against Miki, I hope Fumie places 3rd and makes the World team. It would be such an occasion for her.

Japan is not christian ;)

I think they have an equivalent of Christmas in Shintoïsm that have more importance than "Father Christmas Coca Cola", for Christmas they only offer gifts.

But I've read that the december 25th is a "Valentine's Day" in Japan.

Boxing Day is not even celebrated in the U.S.A. It is celebrated in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, as well as many other members of the Commonwealth of Nations and Greece.

Actually it's Christmas eve...

an excerpt from this site:

http://www.japanvisitor.com/index.php?cID=359&pID=326

"Of actually far greater significance to most Japanese is Christmas Eve. Christmas Eve has decidedly romantic associations in Japan (to the point of any Christian associations being completely obliterated) and women expect to be taken to a restaurant or [censored:laugh:] by their boyfriend."

Actually we do celebrate Christmas in Japan, we had a fake christmas tree in our house growing up and yes I got crappy presents too, like stupid socks, underwears and clothing....sometimes toys but not usually in my family. Our family wasn't christian either.

The happiest day for kids is usually the New Year's day because we got money from adults in your family. One year I got about $700!

No falls in the top 10! Although I think Takahiko might have doubled something, his score is rather low.
Great score for Nobu!

Thanks, Okami! Kozuka's score does seem a bit low for Nationals - better luck to him in the LP. Are the ladies skating their SPs tomorrow, or are they done, too?

Whoever mentioned Christmas day sporting events - I don't know about other places, but in the US they're actually quite common: there are football bowl games around the time of the holidays - even on Christmas Eve (the Hawaii Bowl: this year's winner was Notre Dame, a Catholic university ;)) and NBA basketball. NFL games are on weekends, and if those fall on the holidays, they play a full schedule. Of course, professional athletes are well-compensated for any inconvenience...

Are the ladies skating their SPs tomorrow, or are they done, too?

The Ladies SP is scheduled for tomorrow. The link to the full schedule (in Japanese) was posted by propronia in the second post.

Here is the broadcast schedule:
Fuji TV schedule (Japan time):
12/25 23:30-24:30 Men's short program
12/26 19:00-21:24 Ladies' short program
12/26 23:30-24:45 Men's free program
12/27 19:00-21:24 Ladies' free program
12/28 19:00-20:54 Medalists on Ice (Exhibition gala)

I hope that BS-Hi will broadcast the pairs and dance event. Completely ignoring those disciplines by TV stations will not make them more popular in Japan.

And here is the link to the results page in English:

Takahiko fell on the lutz, had to do a 3F+3T in the end, instead.

Takahito - he was great

Yuzuru Hanyu - this year's jr champ, is just 14 y.o. Very well done, too.

Correct me if I got wrong info, but I heard that kozuka had a hand down on lutz and couldnt do the second jump; then he put 3toe after flip, which was double-footed. he regrets for focusing on the long program in his practices.

I saw more than just a hand down on Kozuka's lutz, but I read in the protocols he had no -1 deduction. Looks like it wasn't a fall after all.

Oda was on today. He and Mao could skate Waltz Masquerade as a pair, do sbs 3A's. Wouldn't it be great :-0
