Cup of Russia Virtual Program Mens

There are not only great artistic skaters here, like Rippon and Abbott, there are some of the finest athletic skaters out there, like van der Perren, Li (even if he seemed rather past it last year), and Joubert.

And there are competitions within the competition. The third rematch between Joubert and Preaubert is here.

Two top Russian men, Alexander Uspenski and Sergei Voronov, will be trying to claim the Russian championship here.

The runoff of two artistique American skaters, Rippon and Abbott, will take place her.

So my advice is don't take any refrigerator breaks tonight. These are some seriously great competitors.

1 Kevin VAN DER PERREN BEL 1

Kevin van der Perren placed sixth at Worlds last year, his highest placement ever. But more important, he placed third in the long program ahead of Johnny Weir. Kevin has HUGE jumps, especially his 3F+3T+3Lo, which he performs in the second part of his program and which has a 15.95 base value with the bonus. Kevin's skating is all about power and animal magnetism. He upgraded his spins to level 4 last year, but still uses relatively simple step sequences. Both of the musical pieces he's chosen will lend themselvs very well to displaying his particular strong points. However, he has had some kind of injury that caused him to withdraw from Finlandia, and also from Skate America. He shines best in the LP.

    He's married to Jenna McCorkell

    3 Chengjiang LI CHN 3

Chengjiang Li is one of the few skaters competing today who have landed both the quad toe and the quad salchow in competition. I've always enjoyed his skating, and especially his exhibitions that often displayed great flair and humor. He has been competing for China for a long time and is one of the skaters whom the COP rules, and not being trained up under them, have not helped. He also has had some stamina problems, especially in the LP, and has asthma, so that is not a surprise.

Coach: None listed on his ISU bio, previously his coach was Haijun Gao
    Choreographer: Wei Liu, Gorsha Sur
    Training Town: Beijing

    5 Alban PREAUBERT FRA 3

Alban has had some quirky, interesting programs in the past, so for me, his programs this year are a bit of a disappointment. However, his skating has not! If he places first or second here, he could qualifty for the GPF.

Doris, you are fab, simply incredible!

My hat would be off to you, if I were wearing one

ETA: Seriously, your posts are what I always hoped skating forums would be: fans helping other fans to get the information they need.

I read on Icenetwork a few days after SA that Rippon is returning to last season's SP. We'll find out if that is truly the case or not here, but I do hope so because I loved that program.
Hoping for a clean event! I'm not predicting on the men because it seems to jinx them lol.

And also, once again, Doris you deserve a gold medal for all your work! Thanks for taking the time to do these previews! They're very enlightening.

This year Chengjiang Li's programs are choreographed by David Wilson, which I read on a Chinese newspaper.
ISU didn't update his bio yet.
