I have a bad feeling that it is not going to be pretty, for that reason I would have given it to Yu Na.
What?? That's a joke, right? The best skater should win, not the one that'll make the audience happiest. I'm sure Yu-Na would want to win fair and square, not be given scores just to please the audience.

I'm so curious to see how the crowd reacts to the awards ceremony....

It sounded like the entire crowd was made up of 11 year old girls..... nothing wrong with that of course, but they are going to respond to their idol and that would have to be Yuna. I'm sure they will be polite to Mao, just reserved.

casken - no. It was the flip that got a UR.

Yu-Na got the dreaded < on her 3S, as predicted in this thread. Joannie and Caro were the only ladies with no URs.

Yep, a very reserved ovation for Mao, but the audience was polite. The applause died halfway through Mao's bows however.

Protocols are out!

Is Mao Asada now the very first woman to land two Triple Axels in one program?!?
1 3A+2T 9.50 0.80 1 1 2 1 0 0 1 1 1 - - - 10.30

2 3A 8.20 1.40 2 0 1 2 1 1 1 2 1 - - - 9.60
Mao's Flip fall got downgraded, that's why the TES isn't even higher.

But I admire her so much, she is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. The Salchow went well again... And if you land 2 3Axels (she got more than 20 points for the first two jumping passes...), you have some room for mistakes. Considering that she only did Toeloop and Salchow and not Lutz and Loop, no third combo, no Triple-Triple at all.

By the way, Kim landed just 4 Triples, 2 of those were just Toeloops. Kostner also landed 4 Triples but rotated two more...

Wow... those are great GOEs for Mao for the two 3A's. Although on a performance level, I think having 2 3A's detracts a bit from the artistry and overall flow because there is so much warm-up time of plain skating in between the jumps.

wow... only one edge call for all the ladies in the LP. That has to be a first!

The fact there is a variance as big as 6.25 - 8.00 on a PCS component is a little disturbing imho.

And that is what I mean by Mao lacking choreo - too much prep time with the all jumps (not just the Axels), hardly any linking footwork/transitions in or out of them (esp. compared to Joannie's). I agree with the judges who gave 6.25 on this component.

Mao's Debussy SP though is exquisite - best of all the skaters this season.

Congrats to Mao on her 2nd(?) GPF win

She is the first female skater to land two ratified triple axels in a program. But she did that during the 2006 Japanese Nationals (where she came in second to Fumie Suguri due to some questionable judging). However, she is now the first female skater to land two 3axels in an international competition.

GOEs only helped 3 out of the 6 skaters. You would think when it's a competition between the top 6 skaters of the entire GP series, that all would have positive GOEs overall. The fact that so many skaters are hurting from GOEs (I think) proves that skating, overall, is becoming too point-oriented and is forcing skaters to put elements into their programs that they aren't comfortable or stable with just so they can have a higher base TES score. It's a shame.
